With the Kid Away, a Day of Play

Monday Morning Moon

DH and I decided yesterday to have a complete day of “play” and accomplished nothing of importance. I don’t know if it was well deserved, but it was well needed. I guess that’s not completely true as I did sort out reservations for my nieces wedding, plus shower gifts and wedding gifts for both her and my daughter’s friend. Here’s a tip I learned; if you order on-line at Target to be picked up in your local store, many kitchen items are discounted 10%.  This was huge, and I ended up saving cumulatively $25.00 on a couple items. I know I could keep watching the registry for items to go on sale, but found items in the price ranges I wanted to spend, and now it’s just out of the way.

I kept my head ache for most of the weekend, never really completely went away, but he really wanted to get out before the forecasted snow was set to come. I remembered I had a bonus $25 gift card for a local pub, so we decided to head there, and then to a movie. We were early, and they served a breakfast buffet, with made to order omelets, French toast, and pancakes.  It was quite good, and very reasonable, with bill and tip being covered with our $25 voucher.  We made sure the server could get the difference for her tip as sometimes restaurants don’t allow that when they are the bonus cars, but this was treated just like a regular gift certificate.

As much as I like popcorn in a movie, we were too stuffed, so it became a really cheap day as we had matinee tickets. We saw the new Kong movie, in a fairly empty theater, so I didn’t feel so bad about not spending more on concessions since we at least added funds to ticket sales, without denying tickets to movie goers that would be buying food. About the movie, well, let’s just say it was big and loud, and pretty much what one would expect. Set at the end of the Vietnam War, at least the soundtrack was pretty good music. Neither of us wanted to see anything too dramatic, and the other options were the X-Men Logan movie, or kiddy movies.

It had started snowing while we were in the movie, so we ended up just going home and watched some European soccer on TV.  It was a really exciting game between Barcelona and Paris St Germaine. I had heard a day or so early about a major come back between a Spanish club and a French club, and though what are the odds of another exciting game as usually so few goals are scored? I figured out at the end that I was actually watching a recorded game, and it was the same one I had heard about on the radio. I’m glad I didn’t know that while I was watching. I bundled up for the snow, and took pup for a good long walk. He loves the snow, the extra hour of daylight made walking in the snow a bit safer, and we were both soaked by the time we came in.  I put my pajamas on at 6:00, and settled in to watch some YouTube. Still neither of us that hungry, dinner ended up being just a green salad and a slice of toast. Today though, my play time is done.

  1. Sounds like the perfect day to me. Although I would have picked Logan over the new Kong movie; but that is just me. ;) And you are right sometimes those types of days are just needed.

    1. The movie was hubs pick, but I might have leaned more X Men as well. I would have played hookie if I hadn't missed a week in February today as well.

  2. I think it's good to do that once or twice a month. A couple of weeks ago we had a really rainy Sunday so I watched 4 movies that I had borrowed from relatives - it was great lounging about and relaxing with cups of tea. When I set the intention ahead of time to do it I feel NO guilt!

    1. I seem to be ignoring my house with quite regularity these days. Perhaps I needed a good old fashion snow day, so am over compensating.
