I grew up in a family of smart Aleck's, though that is not the word we really referred to ourselves. I don't think my parents realized just how much sarcasm, biting whit, and humorous indignation they bestowed upon their offspring's mind. I like to think some of my children's and niece and nephews cunning and humorous intellect is part of their lineage. Conversations are never dull on my side of the family at get togethers.
I've tried to stay apolitical in Facebook, but darn if there hasn't been a few pretty funny photo's circulating that tip their hats to my point of view. I honestly thought I would "share" in my timeline more as a memory for myself, (I tend to use Facebook for). I shared a picture of a women holding a sign saying, "With out immigration, Trump would have no wives." I started a "$h&%t" brigade of comments on Sunday, led by a former classmate, who one might think from her statements that she believes she literally sits at the right hand of God. I never responded to her comments, but she went after anyone else who dared to find the picture equally ironic. That after this, I had to take her off my friend list (sounds so juvenile) so I wouldn't have to see her posts, and have her reply 10-15 times against every left leaning thought. I get it, she has her convictions, but I want to be entertained, not badgered.
I know the issues in the world are serious business and I too lose sleep over them, cry about the atrocities, and will do my role to engage in solutions. Sometimes though, a little humor needs to be used to at least get people to see well, people. Here was my favorite, and thank you to my niece.I don't know where she first found it, so if someone knows the original source, I'd gladly give it credit. My share included the following statement, "If you're going to piss people off on Facebook, you might as well make sure it is funny."
Come on, regardless of your political convictions, one can admit it is funny. It was
also refreshing to just have people either just hit like, or the smiley
face, including people who I know have very different stances on the current climate, and not got phonetically nuclear in the comments.
In other acts of naughtiness, I ate a Big Mac, and had a small strawberry shake from McDonald's. I had to run DD2 to school for an hour, and I didn't want to drive home, only to turn back. I could have done something productive, but instead, hearing the radio folks talk about the new bigger Big Mac, and not having had supper yet, nothing sounded better in that moment. Eight dollars later, holy buckets did I have sticker shock, I was over indulging with every bite. It was horrifically delicious, and will probably be my last for another half a decade. I didn't even fess up to either DH or DD2, my secret. That was my Monday. Over whelmed at work, starting fights in social media, and eating three times the calories a normal human should eat in a day. How was your Monday?
I've still got flu no appetite and still on dry Jan and going away tomorrow. I hope I start to pick up soon. On a positive note I'm half a stone lighter Not had anything from McDonald's for over twenty years lol
ReplyDeleteI should regret my meal, but do not. I'm sorry you're still under the flu. Take care and try enjoying the experience.
DeleteFirst I am not a Trump fan nor a Clinton fan but the joke about his wives is a good one. Like the Jurassic park one too. Cheryl
ReplyDeleteIT also may be offensive-I didn't notice the scarf on the head until later. Whoops.
DeleteI enjoyed that....lampooning politicians full stop has been done for a very long time!
ReplyDeleteArilx
If someone runs for public office in a democracy, they better have thick skin.sometimes humor is what keeps someone form totally moving to despair.
DeleteLove the Jurassic park meme! I haven't seen this one floating around Facebook yet but it's awesome! Thanks for the laugh! I've needed it! =)
ReplyDeleteI still haven't learned the origin. Being a huge JP fan, it was perfect.
DeleteLove your sense of humor. And people jut need to calm down and take a joke! Without sarcasm & ironic humor I'm pretty sure I'd lose my mind or do something drastic that would put me in jail.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I haven't had McD's in about a year but I did just receive a bunch of coupons from McD and saw that they now have a little big mac. I've never eaten a big mac due to its size but the coupon just might incent me to try the little one.
Yours- DeeCee
Mine was not the larger version, but still pretty hefty, and I ate every bite!
DeleteI agree with you, if you can't laugh at it you may as well give up. I was so angry that I was not allowed to vote on Brexit (nearly 1 million expat Brits were not allowed to vote) but now it is done que sera. We can only move forward and aim for the best. And those who can't laugh at the joke about Trump's wives must be VERY insecure.
ReplyDeleteIt spiraled into a legal vs illegal immigrant rant, then to border patrol, to the cashier she didn't understand at Walmart, to her cat that lost her health insurance while all these illegal goldfish were milking the system. (I'm being a smart aleck again)
DeleteMy daughter and son in law were at a demo last night and she said there were some very amusing chants about Trump. Love the raptor photo!
ReplyDeleteI'm an equal opportunity heckler,so found several amusing things in the election to diffuse some tension.
DeleteYou garner a lot more attention with humor than with venom! I also love political lampoons!
ReplyDeleteI too am losing sleep over recent events. Seriously. I'm a blue dot in an almost totally red state. I worry that they're going to knock on my door and tell me to get the hell out any day now. I'm that scared. So some humor is good. I saw the T-Rex meme and thought it was hilarious. If I don't laugh, I'll cry.
ReplyDeleteOh Sam... I have a MacDonalds about once every six months and it always feels amazingly BAD!! Glad to hear that you're breaking out. You will see that things have been somewhat fraught over on my blog... Jx
ReplyDeleteI cannot succumb to that kind of temptation very often. Really! There is a lot going on with your life now-positive thoughts your way.
