It was a hectic last week. The excitement of DD1's house, and the poor DH with his ankle sprain, with a few bouts of panic/ anxiety for everyone thrown in. Effort's are being made to manage everyone's health, physical and mental. We're fortunate to have access to care. I'm also so pleased to share DS will be able to come home over Labor Day weekend, just in time to see his youngest sister before she leaves. He's excited to see DD1's house too. I try and focus on all the positives as best I can, despite life messiness. His visit sure will be a happy way to launch me into fall. I'm excited to get a family picture, even if it's just from a phone.
A few more, mostly simple pleasures, but I thrive on getting a good dose each week.
- DD1 and I figured out the hose and irrigation system to her rain barrel. It felt good to apply some conventional wisdom and problem solving. It's quite a clever system and gardening gives her another outlet.
- I was able to get all those pesky appointments made or help others make them. DD2 is starting to get a bit overwhelmed so having these things planned out reduces some stress.
- DS found a nonstop flight, so we'll get a full evening, plus most of Monday with three full days in between. The schedule avoids peak LA traffic too.
- Saturday was cloudy and coolish, but was both a good day for walks, and some outside work. Pup appreciated his extra walk time.
- She's a bit dingy, but I had a good back and forth text session with one of my sisters. She tried texting both me and my nephew while walking their dog. It was a disorganized conversation but the gist was, she's missed seeing us since our schedules for get togethers has been off since the 4th of July, so it's nice to be thought of.
- With DH trying to rest his ankle and the college kid dog sitting, I was sort of to my own devices both Friday and Saturday. I had a movie night Friday. Saturday I read blogs, made popcorn, and went to bed early, and actually slept.
- We took a nice drive on Sunday to both swing by our daughters as DH hadn't seen it yet with her furniture and a drive down the river because he was hungry for BBQ. We had a late lunch so no need for dinner.
- He figured out why her manual push mower wasn't working, and then it worked nice. I tried pushing it too and it's kind of fun. She's getting a chargeable mower too, but later we got a text she mowed her whole yard with it. Well done, and no gasoline needed, all her muscle power. She mentioned the thicker grass was a challenge so having both mower types will be nice.
- DD2 was wore out from pet sitting, lol. I made her a big pot of curry which will give her lunches for the week. It's a simple pleasure to cook meals people really enjoy.
- I'm horrible with growing things. Then add the heat and drought and I had pots of dried stems and dirt, not flowers. Then, this little guy, and maybe a buddy, popped open in a planter from seeds planted in May. It's the little things.
Great news!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you will have the whole family together for Labor Day weekend!
I know you will enjoy the time together.
It's long overdue. We'll have a really good weekend.
DeleteI'm delighted for you that your son is going to make it home after so long! And where in Spain is your daughter going - I forgot to ask?
ReplyDeleteI'll email you, or send me a reminder email. samandcoffee65@gmail.com. There's some crazies in the world so trying to be more vague with her as I don't know how many colleges there are with this type of program.
DeleteI am so happy that your son is coming home for a visit. You have not seen him since before COVID so this is so wonderful. Sorry about hubs ankle, that is the pits and sometimes sprains are worse than breaks. Hubs wears high top shoes always for that reason. Except Sunday and I just bought him some high top dress shoes but he has yest to wear them. Weak ankles in that family. Those are called rock roses and I always plant those later in the summer when the heat burns out the alyssum, they are hardy and stand the heat well.
ReplyDeleteAnkle seems better, but he'll likely reinjure it. He has no patience. Christmas 2019 was the last he was home. Covid kept him from traveling, then his work schedule got so busy he couldn't commit 5-7 days off. I'm ecstatic.
DeleteThe grass cannot get too high with a reel mower. I loved mine and could mow and never break a sweat. I mowed four days, four parts of the yard, and only when it was in shade. I really worked the strategy and loved my reel mower. The best part was lack of noise, vibrations on my hands and body, and I could hear birds. I pushed one in my 40s and 50s, so it should be a piece of cake for her young body. The mower will cut small sticks if she tries, but that dulls the blades. I had a sprain and six months later, the doctor said a broken bone would have healed faster. I hope that gets better for him.
ReplyDeleteShe learned the high grass wasn't the easiest and to pick up debris ahead of time. She has an acre lot so it's not a short job, but she's young and strong.
DeleteSo glad you son is going to finally be able to come home! Life is good!
ReplyDeleteYou know that distance is tough! It's been too long but we'll make the most of his visit.
