Greetings! I need to get on that to do list that's as long as my arm, but I'm on a blogging roll and trying to keep it going. Sorry, that means you get to read the tedious and mundane bits of my life. As I've been doing this summer, Saturday is my life in W's post. Pull up a chair, a computer, your phone and I'll get started.
What’s top of my mind:
I'm not going political. That's what's on my mind- not getting sucked in. I saw how whackadoodle people can get on One Family's blog. I don't agree with a lot of people and vice versa on a lot of things. That's cool, and let's share some wine and talk. I think most of us want basically the same, but have different ideals and compasses on how we should get there. I'm not playing the "woke Olympics" and hope others that are on the right side of middle don't feel a need to defend themselves against nutters attacking them as being RINO's for daring to think for themselves with both sides of their brain.
What I’m watching:
I'm still watching the Danish Sommerfald. Is Elsinore a real place and has anyone been there? I looked it up, so now I know that's the English spelling/ name for Helsingor.
What I’m reading:
I must get Verity read, but it's not calling to me.
What I’m listening to:
I've been listening to a few more budget podcasts for humor, and EC System financing recorded webinars for work content. I've several presentations to deliver in the next few months and looking for options to share as supporting materials.
What I’m planning:
To get this house cleaned! I'm going to do the timer thing, 30 minutes at a time and power through. I need to wrap a couple bday presents and get some cards too. I might take a good Dollar Tree look as this YouTuber had some cute finds. I keep my decor year to year so adding or replacing stuff that's fallen apart doesn't feel too wasteful. I won't do the upcycling this gal does, but the little pumpkins are adorable.
Who needs a good slap:
Last Friday, DD1 and I heard thumps. Ugh-the kids next door were chucking tree limbs over the fence and at our house. We don't think there was any damage, so that is the good. I hate confronting neighbors, but she knows her kids are a handful, and left them unsupervised with a pile of throwable wood. I can't believe she wouldn't have heard the thump. At least she was apologetic and didn't make excuses. She's lucky they didn't check the wood at each other and had major injuries.
Maybe it comes a time that older people should move out of a family neighborhood, but I can't believe anyone would be happy to have some of the stupid crap going on with little to no adult supervision. It's the parents I'm annoyed with, not the kids. Ok, I've started chuckling to myself that I must be unpatriotic according to One Family's troll because I'm complaining about my neighbor's freedom to let their kids chuck branches over their fence and against my house. I'm sensoring freedom on my "soc media". I'm just an awful "lib", tearing this country apart.
Who Deserves Knuck's (Fist Bump):
I have a two day national meeting and it would have been my first travel for work since March 2020 but, it's actually in Minneapolis. I'm not going to take the meeting hosts up on this, but they offered to get rooms for us locally too because of the early start and networking opportunities. I thought that was a nice gesture. I'd rather drive early two mornings and stay late day one, and sleep in my own bed. One Minnesota colleague is taking them up on it.
What’s making me smile:
Going through the little effort to make DH his pie was worth it, and worthy of a smile.
Snarky sarcasm aside, it was a low key week. My daughter got a rock to her windshield so has a repair guy coming between 12:00 and 5:00. Her friend had to head back anyway this morning and it's a bit cool for lake activity. She'll just come with us tomorrow again. The youngest is out of town with highschool friends. I think I've said that, maybe in yesterday's post. I'm getting forgetful. What's the W's of your life this week?
One more laugh - clearly Morton is a bit tone deaf hawking guns on my blog. Maybe it's, Fran, Francey, Leslie.....
The same gun ad was posted on my blog.
ReplyDeleteI doubt moving to an older neighborhood will help. The grandkids will come and be worse. My next-door neighbor allowed visiting grandchildren to build a fire with all the fallen wood in her yard, amongst dried, fallen leaves. At one point the flames were ten feet high in a neighborhood of wooden, hundred-year-old homes.
One Family's comments were nutso. That is why I moderate comments. I am a bad person for complaining about seven dogs barking next door. I cannot go in my yard in peace for the racket that starts next door from the dogs baking at me. But, according to my troll, I am not tolerant. The pit hates me.
I think we all got spammed. I was joking saying we'd move due to being the oldies in the neighborhood.
DeleteI completely agree about the comment about politics, and trying to be in the middle. Can we just get along? Too much to ask? Thought I would try!
ReplyDeletePeople confuse opinion and fact. Sometimes they I overlap, but rarely in full.
DeleteMY kids were a handful. I deliberately moved to our farm when the two youngest (with another on the way) were 2 and 4, simply to keep my brood out of others' hair. I let them run on the farm, and, believe me, there was plenty of mischief/damage to go around. I can't imagine if we were in a subdivision. My current neighbors' kids used this property prior to this build for a number of things, including putting up a tire swing. I said nothing until after the well was put in, and the boy was riding his quad around the lot. I asked him personally to please stay off now that it was an active construction site, and promised him I wouldn't say a word to his parents if he didn't do it again. Also, pretty sure when the build was going on, one of them broke in and painted a penis on the wall. We're only on 5 acres, and their line is close to ours. Later, when the septic mound went in, my superintendent discovered quad marks near it. I DID talk to the mother at that. We've had no problems since, but we DO have a row of "neighbor hater" trees which really solved the issue--they asked about a privacy line, and I told them if they dug the holes, I'd buy the trees. The parents spent 3 days out there with those kids planting that tree line--seriously, you've never seen such beautifully planted trees--on MY side of the property line, granted, but that was my call. I figured two feet was worth my peace and quiet. I also warned mother that we shoot, and showed her where our range was being built (complete with berm). She asked if we would give her the courtesy of a call beforehand, because, although she knows it's our property, her son has been known to explore back in the woods. I told her yes, but shooting wasn't going to happen until we had cleared the proposed range anyway. As my son said, "Mom, only an idiot shoots where he can't see." And with that, wondering if the troll will ask how dare she infringe on my right, yadda yadda...
ReplyDeleteAll this to say, I'm with you--I sometimes think there's a point where you don't want to be in a neighborhood with kids. Of course, I find kids difficult under the best of circumstances, so maybe I'm jaded.
(Yeah, this bleeding heart, liberal Democrat LOVES her some trap shooting action...it even SMELLS good.)
I like being in a mixed age neighborhood. I just don't like the attitude that kids will be kids so as a parent, I have little responsibility to monitor poor behavior. I don't like gun fire, but archery was always fun.
DeleteI pretty much let myself get sucked in on purpose, haha - especially after the comment about needing a manly man. It was too funny. I actually spent most of the day laughing at the whackadoodle. Practical Parsimony is right - you can move to a neighborhood with no kids, but they have their grandkids, LOL. But yes, how dare you not want tree limbs thrown at your house! They are just being kids!
ReplyDeleteThose lines did get comical. They seem to have moved on.
DeleteOh I got Morton's offer too. Didn't take him up on it though as I'd probably shoot myself in the foot! And I must take a look at that Danish series. I've actually been to Helsingor (my sister has lived in Denmark for over 40 years) and if I remember correctly it was very pretty - but ages ago now!
ReplyDeleteI just don't like gun sounds anyway. I too would be a danger to myself and others!
DeleteI don't think I would like living in a neighborhood without kids. I think the sounds of children playing is one of the happiest noises in the world, but I also have no problems with the kids who live around me.
ReplyDeleteChunking stuff in your yard is just not acceptable. Period.
We did have a kid who practiced chipping golf balls from his yard into ours, but he asked before he did it the first time and knew we were ok with it. He also came over and gathered everything each time he did it.
I agree- why it's the parents and not the kids I'm annoyed with. Yesterday the park was full and I loved it. Your neighbor kids a respectful young man. Most of the time I get smiles and waves and do the same.
DeleteI don't understand why people can't just scroll on when they come across something they don't like or don't agree with. Especially on blogs. I guess some people either have too much time on their hands or are just a tad bit crazy.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a nice week. Baking for someone else always brings smiles.
Enjoy your Saturday!!
Lots more treat making yesterday. We have a birthday (s) gathering at the cabin.
DeleteI remember moving to a rental with 2 kids ages 14 and 12. The landlord warned me about to "crazy" old lady next door and suggested I keep the kids on the opposite side of the house. Within 2 months we were friendly and she loved my kids. I got up enough nerve to ask her about the landlord's comment. Basically she told me that t he folks that lived there before us had a lot of activity going on at all hours of the day and night. Kids running around unsupervised. She had mentioned to him that it would be nice if the folks that moved in were quieter and maybe all adults. We lived there 7 years and I am still in contact with her. It is the parents.
ReplyDeleteReally, I am a nice, child loving neighbor. Had three boys for 8 years next door ( other side) and not any concerns/ complaints. Just, kid, then teen age boy sounds and fun.
DeleteI also got the gun ad/comment.
ReplyDeleteThat was a whole bunch of crazy on One Income's blog. Wowzers. Some people have really gone over the edge.
News sources are designed to show the most controversial & salacious stuff, which antagonizes people, towards each other. Separately, of course, there are very scary & newsworthy political events happening. But, the sowing of discord between people is so over the top & ridiculous right now.
Our neighborhood has a few kids, but most are around the age of our boys. One teen neighbor used to have his friends over when his parents were out of town, and they were causing a big ruckus & vomiting in the streets, etc. The parents were so embarrassed & shut that down right away, when they found out.
It's been fine now the last week, but as I said, she was apologetic. The former neighbors in other side of us had the most chill teen age boys. I got spoiled I guess!
DeleteGah! I'm not a fan of kids in general but feral ones with lackadaisical parents really get my back up.
ReplyDeleteHope you had a lovely weekend. xxx
Overall kids and neighbors are fine. Both just have their moments and I have less empathy.
DeleteI always enjoy your Ws. Mine are a coming up.
ReplyDeleteMine were quite average this week. That's life now, average and no complaints.
