It's hard sometimes given 3 different schedules of the folks in your household. When my kids were in high school and living at home it was hard for us to figure out when and what to eat for dinner too. Nobody knows once College Boy is living here next semester and doing his internship what his schedule will be so I have to prepare to deal with that thrown into the mix.
ReplyDeleteHaving reheatable items that they will both be happy eating that is a challenge. When I can re-purpose leftovers it works fine, but both are getting picky with leftovers. Me, I'm not picky and happy to have leftovers for lunch-beats a cold sandwich.
Delete"Rubbish" is one of my favorite words. I know it wasn't the point but the title gave this a comical reading to me. I got a smile.
ReplyDeleteI'm usually completely off point when I comment on blogs! I find the British expressions and word choices are so much better at describing certain things-rubbish is one such word we just do not use enough of in the US for all things crap!
DeleteI am with you on not feeling it. We are eating crap right now just because nothing sounds good and there are no great deals.
ReplyDeleteDH ended up making omelettes last night=neither could think of anything we felt llke making. Daughter had leftover soup fro Sunday. Living the dream.
DeleteAt least you are honest. Maybe you could manage to have two different leftovers, so both will eat them. Can cook things and freeze several portions just for their leftovers? That way, they could each eat a different leftover. Or, you could give them the choice of a cold sandwich.
ReplyDeleteNo freezer room right now but otherwise good ideas! I took out a frozen container of soup that was supposed to go home with my daughter at Thanksgiving. It will be thawed by tonight so lunch tomorrow.
DeleteThe snow and ice in the UK has completely messed up my plans. I'm hoping that we'll be able to 'eat creatively' from the fridge and freezer until the end of the week, then I'll start again with a sensible plan approaching Christmas! Jx
ReplyDeleteYou got this, Jan. I find I am at my most creative in the kitchen with low stocks, but my family doesn't like it. The irony of my meal planning angst is I just spent $99 in the store. Stay safe in the snow and ice.
DeleteYour meal planning is really good! Mine is typically on the spur of the moment and "what do we have"? A lot of times lately, it's been, Fend for yourselves folks!
ReplyDeleteI'm in a fend for your self kind of mood. The steaks, or more like pork chops, DH wil through in the crock pot tonight. As I said, last night we winged it.
DeleteRead the first line of your post and had a good chuckle. At ME, not you! To say my meal planning is all over the place is an understatement. I blame it on the snow :) and the time of year and the fact I don't feel like cooking!
ReplyDeleteI think I get "good food" burn out this time of year. I'm happy with just eating something, so I am not hungry knowing that just around the corner will be a gathering or a party, or Christmas meals.
