Friday W's the True "What the ..." Edition

It will still be another day before a winner, in certified, is declared in the U.S. election. While no secret I want Trump sent as far from the White House as can be allowed, I sure wish we were not facing a month of legal mumbo jumbo, false claims, some potentially valid claims, and  courts deciding what the people wanted. I'll just say, if democratic officials cheat, they sure did a bad job by leaving the Senate in republican hands after the hypocritical actions to get RBG's Supreme Court seat filled. Two words. Term limits. In a week that could not get more bizarre, here is my W's for the week.

What's top of mind: Well, the election is top of mind, but Covid occupies it equally. In fact, I've felt the scratchy sore through and cough since Wednesday, so yesterday ordered the saliva test kit that  are being released in some counties in the state. I have not gone anywhere since Saturday other than for walks. With my daughters visiting us and she and DH working outside the home, I haven't been in a complete tight bubble. Granted, it could be allergies, or just a darn cold, but when yesterday I felt the same, I thought it was good to order as part of the new strategy. I'll be staying put for the next 11 days regardless of the result, through the  guidance still seems unclear, but at one point I know it was you can not test out of quarantine. I've slept in a different space, and have masked in my own home and have Lysol spray to disinfect as I move in the house.  DH feels fine but I want to be sure.

Where I've been: I might be kicking myself, but I enjoyed a glass of wine and a Trader Joe run with my daughter and friend on Saturday. I voted in person on Tuesday morning and did talk with someone in line, outside, who was not masked for about five minutes. He had shared his wife had Covid and was quite ill earlier in the fall and their college daughter tested positive. He and their son remained negative. There was an unmasked man standing behind me in line as well until we moved inside. I don't know-could have been my contact but well shorter than 15 minutes. I had no other trips out once home or since, other than my walks..

Where I'm going: Well, now no where for the next 11 days. I have a first book club, virtual, with my mom's group and am looking forward to that tonight. I'm sure I have some wine, if I feel up to it. I've not heard to avoid alcohol if a person is Covid positive.

What I'm watching: Besides election coverage, and trying to limit that, I discovered the hilarious Schitt's Creek.. We've also had football-both college and pro and my Saturday morning soccer or football, the Premier League. I tend to do other things while football is on-not just watch.   .

What I'm reading: We'll see after the virtual Zoom book club tonight what the pick will be. I've read nothing this past week but the newspaper and work related journal articles.

What I'm listening to:  I'm bac to streaming BBC when I can. I'd like to find a streaming Canadian news service so if anyone has a link, please share in the comments. It is so good to hear how news is  shared outside of our often narrow minded country.

What I'm eating: I shared a couple recipes on Wednesday that were hits. Last night wearing a mask, I made a Cottage Pie with  loads of vegetables, ground beef and gravy and smothered n mashed potatoes. DH was thrilled-I think his new favorite. It tasted good to me as well, so I haven't lost my sense of taste.

Who I'm paying attention to:  I have a new staff starting today and it will be interesting to figure out how to onboard him. This is the long waited for Office Support Staff the whole division needs. He seems like he will be  a really good addition-, energetic, and with a variety of skills ready to use to support our work.

What I'm planning:  I'm looking forward to the virtual book club, which might be my fun for a few weeks With my self quarantine, I feel left out with this last weekend of nice weather, but I need to walk the walk. As long as I feel moderately well, I can spend time on my house cleaning  (no excuses) and can sit outside maybe with embroidery or some reading material.

For future plans, learning how some poll places were stretched for volunteers, and others had no shows, I am thinking I better step up next round. I have plenty of vacation time to use and seems like I should be an appropriate worker. Fingers crossed, we'll get ahead of this pandemic and  poll workers that felt the risk was too high, may come back.

I was surprised with all this warm weather that there were a few clumps of snow still against the curb when I walked pup yesterday. I may have to rethink meals-making sure I wear  mask when I cook and in shared spaces, and leave things in the oven for DH, so I am not touching. If I test positive, he'll need to test and isolate until he gets the results. He had to work his day off again since a coworker, third time, self quarantined while waiting for test results, and another hurt his foot and can't stand. His store will be in a world of hurt if he has to be absent for a couple weeks. What's the W's of your life this week?

  1. This wait sure is stressful! But I'm trying the best I can to not obsess about it. Yesterday I hosted an outside birthday gathering for a friend, just four of us. The weather was delightful for that. Also great for long walks. I hope you test negative and it's just a cold or allergies. Very good idea to isolate as much as you can. Best wishes all is ok with you and family. Celie

    1. Your birthday get together sounds so nice. A friend reached out to a bunch of us for an outdoor dinner since we have such nice weather, but with me isolating, and another mom taking extra precautions after her daughter had an asthma issue earlier, that didn't happen. I miss friends.

  2. Sending “negative” thoughts your way-sounds funny to say but I hope you feel better soon and you have just something minor. I drove past a long line of unmasked voters standing six inches away from each other and I swear I could see the covid in the air. Not surprising in this very red area. I’ve been making comfort foods this week, banana bread, soup, Mac and cheese or cooking on the grill. Watching my Christmas shows and avoiding the news, listening to the occasional Christmas Carol played at work. My daughter may have had her last day at the Halloween store, she’s scheduled for inventory on Monday but they could possibly be done by the time she would be able to come in. I’m very proud of her for working 20+ hours a week, finishing the first quarter with a 4.2 GPA, handling classes constantly changing between in person and online and still spending time with her family and boyfriend. But also thankful to not have to shuttle her back and forth anymore! JoAnn

    1. I will take the negative thoughts! My kids could never go above 4.0 because of grading system. 4.2 is quite impressive=so congratulations to her. I think our district is going totally distance learning this month.

  3. We don't have access to saliva kits except for little kids here. I hope you feel better and it is just a touch of cold. The two main Canadian News services are CBC.ca (National broadcaster, given government money to operate), and https://globalnews.ca/ which is the other one. They stream alot of stories but not so much live streaming.

    1. I'll share a tiny bit today about the test-so easy, and I hope it gives me peace of mind. Thank you for the information. I feel like I should know more coming out of our neighbors news station.

  4. I'm hoping it's a cold rather than the dreaded Covid and keeping everything crossed for a successful outcome to the US Election, The orange one has threatened to leave the country if he doesn't get his own way, can I say on behalf of all Brits, we don't want him either!
    Stay safe! xxx

    1. Well, he will be trying to go somewhere as I think legal threats will weigh over his head. I was so upset Tuesday night at the prospect of another four years, I was researching where the heck we might be able to move to.

  5. Here's the link to CBC's live streaming: https://www.cbc.ca/news2/networkstream/ - like Cheapchick above me said, it's a gov-sponsored station, but they are pretty fair-minded. I also watch Global News. CTV is also good: https://www.ctvnews.ca/ctv-news-channel - that's usually what I watch.

Sending you good vibes that you don't have COVID! If you are wearing a mask, you are probably good vs. non-masking COVIDiots, as long as you're washing your mask and hands.

Schitt's Creek is hilarious! I love Moira so much (I think you get this, you know me!). That's another proud Canadian product - I watched it on regular network TV for its run.

FYI, due to your question, I'll be showing what I wear for walking outside in tonight's post (not my good shoes!), and linking back to you. :) If I haven't mentioned it lately, I so appreciate your comments, and I'm so glad we "met". Thank you.

    1. I still go back to the saying through that wearing the mask is for others, but it doesn't protect the wearer form the Covvidiots that refuse. I love love love your blog! I really feel like someday when I leave the house for work, I have picked up new tips and will feel a bit more confident in my style. I can't wait to do a big thrift shop with my girls and find the winning pieces.

  6. I will have to check out Schitt's Creek and see if it is something I would like to watch. The election sure has been exciting this week. At first I thought Trump had it, but then Biden and it could still go either way. LOL It is fun to watch history in the making.

    1. I have heard that there is evolution of characters, while staying to the heart of the show over time-and now I am so hooked. Remember it was never on network television, so the language might be off putting to some.

    2. It aired in the early evening here on CBC ;) Hope you enjoy the rest of the seasons.

  7. The waiting is definitely stressful, I can't even think straight. I sure hope you just have a cold or allergies Sam. Best to test and do the things you are doing just in case. I keep meaning to check out Schitt's Creek. I guess I need to write myself a note since I won't be checking anything out until this election is finalized!

    1. I am hoping as well, but the symptoms are still lingering despite taking my allergy meds. I don't know why I am so late to the game as Schitts Creek was recommended by so many people.

  8. I didn't realize you could order saliva tests. How long does it take to get the results? My DIL (or I guess now former-DIL) got her results back and they are negative thank goodness, so that's a relief for everyone, my son in particular. Stay safe and I hope it's just a sore throat!

    1. I ordered Thursday morning, it was here Friday morning, and back I think via UPS today to the lab. Now they say 48-72 hours, so I likely will learn Monday or Tuesday, so five days from when ordering. Not great, but tha tis why I am quarantining. Minnesota is pushing more and more testing to try an get ahead and stop the spread. Households in certain counties can get them for free, though they will go through insurance.

    1. If I don't get the breathing issues, even if positive, I will be fine, I hope. So far, just the headache, sore throat and coughing. I love David and Stevie-I think they will end up being really great friends, but not together. I'm only on Season two so no spoilers!

  10. If you can figure out how to get all of the career politicians (Both sides of the aisle) to vote term limits that would limit their time in office and power, sell the idea and you can make millions!
I want term limits, line item vetos and a law that during a crisis the only thing allowed on the bill concerning the crisis is directly related to it. Those will never make it into committee, much less out of it.

    1. There are so many things that regardless of your political affiliation I think all or most AMericans can get behind. If I can figure it out, I'd forego the millions if it could happen. I will agree on line item veto as well.

  11. I've been up at midnight, glued to the returns on CNN. It's sad. I was really hoping for a landslide, not this tight race. I hope you just have allergies. I was coughing at work the other day and got a little worried, but I seem to be fine. I was on register all week, so I did more talking than usual. I still take my vitals every morn (temp, blood oxy and BP). All is well, but I'm at risk every day with my job. I tried watching Schitt's Creek. Made it through 3 episodes, then gave up. I wanted to like it, but it just wasn't happening.

    1. I worry so much about people working in schools-especially high schools as that and young adults are apparently showing to be asymptomatic carriers and many are not changing life other than they have to. I can see how the show can be off putting ot others. I was told to stick through at least season one, but I was hooked by third show.
