The Now I'm Thinking Christmas Menu Planning-Blogmas Day 20

I wasn't even close to the planned options from last week, but we ate nonetheless. Here's the list I came up with, and the ones we actually ate.
  • Wild Rice Soup
  • Curry, rice, naan and palak paneer
  • Tuna noodle hotdish
  • Chow Mein with rice
  • Sloppy Joe's and tator tots
  • Penne pasta with vegetables and sauce
  • Garlic and parmesan risotto with salad
  • Turkey meatloaf and au gratin potatoes
  • Meatballs and mushroom gravy over rice or mashed potato
  • Goulash
Sunday: Penne pasta i vodka sauce, and chicken wings as DH was really craving them
Monday:Sloppy Joes and augratin potatoes
Tuesday: Rice hotdish with carrots and celery
Wednesday: Leftovers
Thursday: Curry for DD2 with rice, turkey stuffing hotdish with rice
Friday: DH and I just sort of fended for ourselves, DD2 had some tomato red pepper soup, apple sauce, and pudding
Saturday: Take and Bake Pizza, a mashed sweet potato mashed squash, and refried beans for DD2

DD2 has her appetite back and we tried filling her up last night with an odd meal of foods that could be mashed, but would have substance. Soup and applesauce wasn't cutting it. My thought of wild rice soup was nixed as rice is not allowed because how small it is and could get lodged in the sockets, so probably will make a pot next week. On to this week and possibilities, and our Christmas plans. .

  • Tuna noodle hotdish
  • Turkey meatloaf and au gratin potatoes
  • Meatballs and mushroom gravy over mashed potato
  • Goulash
  • Homemade chicken strips and potato wedges
  • Chicken tetrazzini

  • Christmas Eve: Take out Chinese form a local restaurant
Christmas Day: Cinnamon rolls and fruit for breakfast, Dinner: Trout, Bacon wrapped steak fillets, mashed skin on red potatoes, vegetable skewers, crescent rolls.and DD1 is making a vegan meatloaf that sh made last week for her and her grandma which she said was really delicious. She's doing the mashed potatoes as well. It will just be the four of us, so suspect leftovers for Saturday. Plans are to see his mom on Sunday for a bit at her house, and she is having the other siblings families-one Christmas eve, and one Christmas Day.

If I can, I'll get some smoked salmon for Christmas Eve or later Christmas day nibbling for DH and DD2 (And she's feeling up to eating it) I still will. I have other things to do appetizers like grilled halloumi, stuffed portabella mushrooms, pepper jam with cream cheese and crackers, and tapenade and bruschetta on toast, while movie watching and depending on how our schedule and hunger cravings go. I really only plan to cook the one meal over three days! Traut is a new to me food to cook, but I thought it might be a nice change, and more affordable this year since we're a small group. Anything new on your Christmas table this year?

I bought four of these at Aldi-
not inexpensive, but should be no fuss.

    1. I'm invited to my DIL's mom's on 24th as the French tend to celebrate 24th rather than 25th. That actually works out better all round as we celebrate 25th rather than 24th. I think we're having coquilles St. Jacques followed by duck and then I have no idea. I AM actually making stuffed turkey this year for Christmas day (I don't always) but I'm making gratin dauphinoise as we all love it. Not sure about the rest yet. I finally got smart and decided I would make what is easiest for me and what I know everyone loves. The French can do the fancy stuff!

      1. That sounds like a really nice two days. I think Dauphinoise are what we call scalloped potatoes. I will have to look up what a coquilles St Jacques is as I know crepe, pastires,a nd Croque Monsieur or Madames!

    2. We typically serve rib roast, purchased from a local butcher, but this year, Would-Be-College-Boy requested glazed, spiral cut ham. I've never prepared ham on Christmas, so I agreed. I'll make scalloped potatoes and green bean casserole, as well as a cranberry orange salad. My new dish will be a pineapple buttermilk pie. I may also make a homemade macaroni and cheese to go with it. I'll bake a cheesecake as well. Another new item is the Christmas morning mimosas, which we have when we wake up, along with smoked salmon on bagels. This year, due to a happy accident at Thanksgiving, they will be made with apple cider, as we found we really enjoyed that.

      1. I had an apple cider mimosa a couple years ago at a blogger event and it was so good-and me who does not like apple cider. The rest of your menu sounds equally delicious. My MIL is making a pork roast and ham on Christmas eve and Christmas Day respectively. I imagine we will be having the leftovers of both as sandwiches on Sunday, which I hope is the case and she doesn't feel she needs to do a third meal.

    3. We're having prime rib sliders on Christmas Eve (with wings, taquitos, & a veggie tray). Plus potatoes & salad, with Christmas cookies for dessert.

On Christmas Day, we have a big brunch in the am, and for dinner we will have soup, rolls, salad & a pumpkin cheesecake. Yum!

      1. I'm not a huge prime rib fan because of the rareness of it when cooked as it is supposed to be, but when sliced and cooked through or sandwiches-I love it! I am loving all the menus everyone is posting.

    4. Excuse me for asking but what is Traut? Or is your autocorrect changing Trout? lol

      1. No auto correct-I probably didn't now how to spell trout! I know a family with last name starting traut... pronounced like the fish, so there is where my spelling came from. Glad you kept me on my toes.

    5. I am making Christmas Eve dinner: planked salmon, rose potatoes, and seared brussel sprouts in maple, mustard, and bacon. Someone is making Christmas dinner: a simple ham and sweet potatoes.

      1. Two lovely menus and I like how you are sharing the kitchen time. I never knew I like brussel sprout until I had them in a bar as a happy hour appetizer glazed in syrup and with bacon.

    6. It all sounds great Sam! I'll be thinking about you on Christmas eve while we eat Chinese food together in different states lol. You saw I'm doing a brunch buffet and then in the even it will just be leftovers. I'm looking forward to all of it!

      1. We ended up needing to sign up for the 9:30 Outdoor church service (Still not comfortable inside sitting for such a long time, plus they are doing communion, so masks will come down for that), so I think now we will eat earlier than originally planned on Christmas eve. I'll toast your family with an egg roll.

    7. No new foods. I am planning turkey breast, and other things...lol.

    8. I am no where near planning Christmas, except we do not do dinner. We do brunch so it will be some brunchy stuff.

      1. If I would have made Christmas eve dinner, then I would just say Christmas day was brunch and call it leftovers and snacks, but I want at least one sit down meal.

    9. Your meals sound delicious, Sam. We usually do a ham for Christmas, but not this year. I'm cooking Beef Roast this year. It's been a while since I made one of those, so we are looking forward to it.

      1. I haven't made a beef roast for a long time either. Maybe for New Years with loads for samdwuches, stew, and soup.
