Fall n Minnesota is the stuff of Hallmark movie legends. While the colors haven't been quite as stellar as we'd hope, who cares when you can be outside on a morning walk with just a light jacket and shed it entirely by noon. Unfortunately, I slept wrong, woke up with a headache and am downing coffee as fast as my Keurig, who is still working by the way, can keep me caffeinated. No lectures that coffee might be the culprit. It's the last vice I'll ever give up. To perk up my day, I like to start Tuesdays off capturing 10 things that made me smile, give me joy, or are a simple pleasure from the days leading up to Tuesday.
- I will start there, with coffee, specifically the Aldi Vanilla. At $3.99 for 12 ounces, it is a bargain to boot. Normally I'd be drinking form my Paris cup on Tuesday mornings but it is in the dishwasher that needs to be emptied. I'm not trying to rush the season, but my hand landed on a Happy Holidays mug that is not particuallry Christmasy.
- While I took last night out, the spare room is returning to a useable space for sleeping. I have stacked clean bedding to go back on, and that is a simple pleasure.
- This will be in Thursday's post, but I cancelled the Fab, Fit, Fun subscription box. It served it's purpose for nearly five years, a fun gift ever quarter for my girls and me. Instead, I'd like to put the same money towards a quarterly outing like a thrift challenge ( I still owe you all that recap), a pamper and movie night, or trying a new restaurant. I had way too many things left in the boxes that were not used and it seems just wasteful. I will add though, we found a few products that likely I would have never tried but now really like such as the Ouai leave in conditioner. I also got my favorite black and white plaid shawl in a box, and a light weight sweater that has been m go to for two years now. It felt good though to hit the cancel button and eliminate one more source of stuff coming in my house, even if they are consumables.
- My daughter has been on vacation this week and staying at the family lake cabin. She has shared a few terrific photos. I'm borrowing today's-it made me smile.
- My coworker that had the baby last May so we have seen her grow before our eyes, started child care so no more waves on meetings. She had a gltich last Friday during one of our meetings and no child care. It was so sweet seeing her little hand waving to us all on the screen after not seeing her for several weeks.
- DH really wanted to see the latest James Bond movie. I am luke warm at best about these kind of movies, but give and take in a marriage right. I'll add Daniel Craig makes me smile though. As does Ralph Fiennes but he's always a prick in the Bond movies. I won't give away spoilers, but it took me a moment to see the Bond girl in Cuba was the young actress that was so fabulous in Knives Out, Ana De Armos, and another new to me actress, Lashona Lynch. Both should have a lot of screen time in future movies. The "love interest" meh, kind of a vanilla role.
- I successfully completed my 3 Meals at $3.00 a piece challenge. I was quite pleased with myself.
- I bought myself a bag of Child's Play, which is basically a bag of tootsie brand candies. I can suck on a small Tootsie roll and get a chocolate fix, or such on a Tootsie pop for nearly an hour with very few calories compared to other chocolate indulgences.
- While walking pup, I stopped to talk with a neighbor and had a good long catch-up. She's trying to get her step son and wife to look at the place next door to me, which had a For Sale sign on by walk time. I think they better hurry as houses are turning faster than a pancake on a hot griddle. I wouldn't mind having them as neighbors. It's always nice t get a catch-up with this neighbor. Her husbands and his first wife and three boys were neighbors when we moved in, but divorced 23 years ago and both remarried. He stayed in the house, and had another son, the same age as our youngest. The wife also had another son, about the same age. Apparently it was an amicable divorce as we've seen coming and goings, child care sharing with the 4th sons, and have been at grad parties at both houses as they've shared hosting.
- Wow-I am overwhelmed with the motivating comments on my purging progress, and support while I commiserated about m stiff muscles. It is motivating and appreciate the cheers in the back ground. I'll get it done. Readers make me smile.
Aaaaah, fall. As a transplanted New Englander, I truly miss the foliage. But, then I remember the snow. You don't have to shovel rain!
ReplyDeleteSo true! Does the PNW not get the color change or is it the tree variety? I don't mind cold-just bitter cold and months and months of snow. Figuring out the permanent retirement will be tricky.
DeleteWe have a few deciduous trees--Leafy Maples (that's what they are called here, they aren't sugar maples) Alders, a few Birch and the odd oak. The colors lean towards yellow/reddish brown. The truly glorious foliage requires a deep freeze, from what I understand, which we don't get here. Mostly, it's green year-round, with all the conifers. Our winter will see one or two freezes of 2 - 3 days long. Beyond that, the temperatures hover around high 40's to low 50's daytime, to mid 30's at night--warmer if it's rainy. It really doesn't rain that much here, to the point we go into drought conditions in the summer, but there is not a lot of sun during the winter--it's gray. That said, we are equally as likely to get a sunny, low 50's degree January day as we were in the southwest. I say our winter is the same winter we had when we lived there, just a lot longer. Personally, I prefer the heat and humidity, but DH can't stand it. This region was the best compromise. Essentially, other than the windstorms, there is no severe weather here.
DeleteWhat a gorgeous photo! And, such an uplifting post. I do believe that focusing on positive things really makes such a difference in our lives.
ReplyDeleteWe all have stupid stuff to deal with, and some people really do have huge struggles (my coworker's 1 year old baby just died). Taking the time to stop & appreciate what you have is so important & helps put things into context.
Stupid stuff is how most of my problems begin, so I do fin dif I try and set them aside and focus on positive things, I get through the slumps a bit better.
DeleteYour daughter's photo from the lake house is just stunning! Lucky you, aren't the colours just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteShe's taken some good ones this week as she gets up early, goes for a paddle and then a hike. I am really thinking we will spend a few days there in November. The colors will be gone, but the calm will be there.
DeleteWhat a lovely picture from the cabin. I thought you comment about coffee was funny and appropriate, the last thing I will give up. Yes diet coke here it is my go to.
ReplyDeleteI did it for all my pregnancies and nursing, but I feel I can handle this one naughty item. I just need to get rid of the other 100 or so naughty foods.
DeleteWhat a beautiful photo! Hope your daughter is having a fun vacation.
ReplyDeleteI am old school when it comes to Bond movies, so I haven't liked Daniel Craig as much. Sounds like a fun date night, and I'm glad you enjoyed the movie. I'm looking forward to Eternals next month though.
Sounds like some lovely positives. Hope you have a good week.
She said they are hiking miles and miles, and paddling on the lake, and playing board and card games and just "being." IT sounds pretty fantastic.
DeleteSounds wonderful!
DeleteI loved reading this. I don't think I can do 10...but...
ReplyDelete1. seeing a dozen of my coworkers again in the flesh!
2. a kind comment from another coworker
3. the chat in the elevator with the young woman wearing a "shacket"
4. the pink light on the Castle this morning
5. my lovely and purry kitty who wants to sit on me
6. my husband who brought Subway home so I wouldn't have to cook
7. catching up with my friend Elaine on the other side of the continent for an hour on Zoom tonight
8. getting my sunglasses back, from leaving them at a friend's house
9. anticipating going for dinner with my old boss Tammy tomorrow night
10. showing off my Tattoo Snake Jacket to her and sharing it on my blog!
Well, I just surprised myself, and you helped remind me to always look for the bright side, Sam. Thank you.
Once a person, most people start thinking, 10 is pretty easy to come up with. IT really is little moments tat can brighten a day-love the kitty purring. I get snoring pup.
DeleteFirst, that photo is gorgeous. The sunrise is the only thing I miss about the lake place!
ReplyDeleteI have become addicted to Aldi's maple coffee. I think it is the smell more than the taste, but I am going to buy several bags and freeze them so I can have it when they discontinue it for whatever winter coffee they will offer.
I truly believe keeping up with joyful things changes attitudes.
I may grab some of that-people have been raving about Maple Oatmilk/beverage as a coffee creamer. I need the beans to have the flavor, not the creamer so I'd probably love that blend. My daughter is an ealry riser so catches the best light.
DeleteThat's a fab photo and a very upbeat, positive post so thank you!
ReplyDeleteWe went to see Too Soon To Die on Monday and loved it, a clever ending! Lashona Lynch is fabulous and gorgeous to look at, isn't she? xxx
Yes, she's young and gorgeous, well we're all gorgeous right, and age is just a number. I actually forgot the movie title already. I keep saying Time to Die.
