DH and I have now been married 34 years. We've experienced joy, loss, frustration, success and all things in between. We've not raised a Norman Rockwell family, but have three kids that I believe think highly of us, but also don't feel so tied to how they were raised that they will find it hard to compromise when they find partners, complete with their family customs and norms, and make their own family. Each anniversary I get to think about how while everything in our lives has not been perfect, we sure got the good end of most of life's sticks. Chaos and clutter might be our dysfunctional norm, but it's "our" dysfunctional norm. With that, Happy Anniversary week to my dear husband, DH for short. As I capture my joys, smiles, and simple pleasures for the week, may we be worthy of many more anniversary weeks.
- Friday was a perfect night. Not only did DH learn he got Saturday off, he was home early on Friday. We took advantage of neither of us having had lunch and beat the Friday night supper rush and went out for dinner downtown. We followed dinner with a walk along the river.
- While it was a dreaded job, I got the entry closet cleaned. I took out winter coats that never got stored elsewhere-washed those that could be washed and Dryelled those that couldn't be. Despite the warm weather, I know we will wake up to freezing temps eventually and I want our winter wear to be ready. I purged a few things I had been holding onto for I don't know why.
- I had what I hope is the first of many Zoom meetings with fellow bloggers on Saturday afternoon. It was that first date kind of awkward at first, but after we got talking, an hour just flew by. Zoom gave us extra time as when it was booked, the notice said free accounts were limited to 40 minutes.
- And yet another invitation, and we met friends at the local bar and grill for drinks and dinner. I hadn't seen them since they came to the lake for the day back in August. Of course DH and the guy have seen plenty of each other.
- My niece brought her two younger girls, 14 and 9, to help clean up the park. My brother and sister-in-law had their three youngest grandchildren with-though I don't think they were any help at all, but still fun to see. The 9 year old and I tackled the wooded area just off the fishing dock where people toss cans and bottles, together. She is just a sweetheart. She was an expert with the garbage grabber.
- They tried really hard to lose the game, but the Minnesota Vikings held on, thanks to a last second field goal to win against the worst team in the NFL. Oh was DH set up for our drive, listening to the post game commentary!
- For our bigg anniversary experience, we took a fall drive after the game heading to a town with a really good BBQ restaurant. We couldn't have requested a better driving day and the food at the BBQ place was still as good as DH remembered.
- The Pizza Grilling kit was a hit with DH. He also liked getting the pizza gift card-great for some Sunday, Monday, or Thursday night game.
- Thankfully none of the kids in BIL's family got super sick from Covid, just lousy feeling, but started feeling better by the end of the weekend. I texted with my SIL and found out they and those older than 12 did get the J and J shot, but only recently.
- Last-I think we might finally have untangled the massive financial nightmare yesterday at work. Myself and my colleague really took on the brunt of figuring out a solution, even though we were not the ones who created or directly could make the changes. I try not to be a smirky person, but it was rewarding to hear the snippy accountant who always thinks issues are someone else's fault, be told clearly by her boss that the issue was not caused by my team, but they were pretty glad we knew what we were doing to help them figure it out.
Wishing you both a very Happy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you've been very busy - as always. What fun to have a virtual blogger meet-up. I used to love the Skype chats I used to have with my blog friends in NZ, Australia and the USA, we'd chat for hours!
That's a great photo of your cute dog! xxx
Skype now seems like a forever ago technology, but it was just last year work abandoned it. If it ever works for you to join, you're so welcome. I'm enjoying your vacation recap.
DeleteHappy anniversary! Your fall drive sounds lovely, & so happy you were able to untangle the work challenge!
ReplyDeleteIt was a bear to untangle for sure. Sunday was a good day.
DeleteFirst and foremost, Happy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteI want to meet that Norman Rockwell family who makes the rest of us feel insufficient because we do not live perfect and perfectly harmonious lives!
I think the blogger zoom meeting is a marvelous idea!
Glad you are/were able to smirk (even if it is just an interior smirk) about the work situation!
I'm petty that way and I was off camera so likely a real smirk. I'd love for you to join, but I know, 'Bama football 🏈!
DeleteHello Sam, Happy Anniversary! I am glad for you that you have parks and rivers to enjoy. We have them here too, of course, but somehow they are not the same. Are you getting nice fall colors this year? I miss that season incredibly.
ReplyDelete--Jim
We have loads of parks, rivers, lakes- all good things. Color's have been slow to pop this year. Few reds and yellows yet.
DeleteMany congratulations Sam. That's a massive achievement! Arilx
ReplyDeleteI guess DH should get the bulk of the accolades. I'm hard to live with.
DeleteHappy anniversary to you and your hubs - and even the pup seems to be pleased for you!
ReplyDeleteOh, pup is happy whenever he's included. He was left behind on our drive so not happy about that.
DeleteHappy Anniversary week!
ReplyDeleteLove the pup picture!
Sounds like some good positives, and I'm glad that you were able to get the work problem fixed. Hope your daughter gets along ok with her surgery.
She had step one yesterday to prep for two weeks from today. Thanks for the well wishes.
DeleteWell Happy Anniversary to you. SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAD A GREAT WEEKEND. Pup doesn't mean to be a nuisance. He is so cute.
