Good Tuesday morning folks. I hope you all got through the first day of a new work week and had a lovely weekend. Work is going to be particularly busy, don't I say that each week, but that just means my hours outside of work need to be well used. On Saturday, I spent a sort out your life kind of day. I actually started the day with the work out I linked in my post, and sorted out the calendar for the rest of the month. Hawaii Plan shared a tip from a friend termed snack working out. It's a tip to fit even short spurts of exercise and I've been doing that. Watching YouTube- do leg lifts. Going to get the Sunday paper at the end of the driveway, take a walk around the cul de sac. Heading to the bathroom, add three extra trips up and down the stairs. Maybe these snacks will be the right extra for me.
In that bit of positive intention, let's get on with the post. There were many kinds of snacking this weekend-work outs, house cleaning, and of course, delicious nibbling. It's time to share my weekly recap if simple pleasures, joys, and smiles.
- Watched the silly but cute enough Merry Me with my daughter in Friday. Realistic, not, but it's nice to just see nice and happy.
- We had a really nice time out with friends on Saturday. We learned her oldest is getting married in June, a small wedding followed by a country bonfire.
- It was a cold weekend and cold start, but my gosh was the sun shining on Sunday. I stared at how sparkly the snow in the back yard looked. We got more snow overnight and Monday too was "sparkly."
- My daughter rode with me to the airport to pick up my sister from her return from Mexico. There was a cluster $%*^ with the luggage, so it took over an hour wait for her to get her luggage. She sometimes has a bit of a temper, always has, and I knew this could take away from her joy. I texted her that we were just fine waiting and to look through her pictures and just enjoy that technically she was still on vacation. She said later she did that and it helped.
- On Sunday I made a delicious use it up banana oat bread, plus one of the butter braids that have been in the freezer since November, purchased for a nephew's fundraiser. DD1 came over for the game (and then rode along) with fresh blueberry muffins. We had delicious carb overload, but I stretched them out a few days with my afternoon tea.
- I really had no skin in the game, but I enjoyed watching the Super Bowl-we got back a few minutes before half time, saw the half time show, and ate during the production. DS and DD1 tied for the family bet, though DS had the closest score. He'll get a coffee card, and I'm excited to take my daughter out for coffee when she can have coffee again. We all win!
- I helped my daughter get papers filed for her non-profit-so many details, I helped a bit with DD2 complete an internship application. They are capable young women on their own, but it's nice to be useful and helpful.
- Pup was antsy for his work and was really disruptive to my 4:00 meeting. At one point he jumped up on me, so not like him. When the meeting was done, I took hime for his walk. The full moon was clearly coming out and maybe that explains his craziness, but we both needed fresh air.
- Very low key Valentine's, but I made a niceish dinner, if breaded chicken cutlets in sort of a ranch , bbq dressing, rice pilaf , and steamed vegetables. I was thinking about making a couple of the Godiva lava cakes, but I was feeling carb overload from Sunday and DH had an ice cream stash. I had apple slices instead, so red like Valentine's hearts. Today may be discount chocolate scores!
- A total surprise announcement, my niece got married over the weekend. We don't see her often, her dad, my brother lives in Florida, and she's the family recluse, and a major triathlete and ultimate marathon runner, so constantly trains, and doesn't come to any family events. She was married about 13 years, then divorced a couple years back. I thought she'd never consider marrying again, but it must have been right at 50, to leap again.
Cross my fingers, hope I don't jinx life by typing, but in Minnesota, Covid cases and hospitalizations are decreasing. Home tests are finally getting distributed to hopefully help people have better indication to test if they were exposed and stay home even if they feel well; we got two of the four ordered yesterday. Just maybe by spring, we'll be getting to where we thought we were heading a year ago.
Sounds like some great things in store, and a fun weekend! I am feeling frazzled with our schedule, which is somewhat unlike me. I'm normally pretty organized, but lately there have been so many things beyond our control happening. Ah, well. That's just where we are.

I was tired this morning, but got a short work out in. I might be able to fit in another later if a meeting gets cancelled. I'm sorry you are feeling frazzled, and can empathize form days one by.

ReplyDeleteWe do! My daughter knows this about her aunt as well (they played volley ball together a year and it was not pretty some nights), so she knew what I was trying to do.

The author talk was wonderful-so motivating, and understanding where her writing inspiration comes from, was affirming to my little world of being a writer. I will add more of these events.

ReplyDeleteLooking at my calendar on Saturday and seeing too much blank was a bit depressing, as I need things to look forward to. Now, I might just add things that might seem mundane, but really are a bit of a treat.
DeleteYay for author talks!!! I live in an area that has a decent amount of these throughout the year and I really miss them. Of course, I've attended quite a few virtual ones, which have been great, but I'm also looking forward to the day when the local ones resume in person as well. Have a good time!
ReplyDeleteAnd yum, Butter Braids! My son did one of those years ago as a fundraiser and they were so, so good!
I too did both author talks, and travel tours-virtually, and while not the same, filled a bit of a hole. I got to see two book club friend sin real life and that was terrific. The Butter Braids are expensive, but I figure 5-6 Danish pastries wouldn't be any less, and this was a fund raiser, and I haven't found anything like these in a store. I buy once a year!
DeleteFor years, my main way to exercise was to walk or run up and down the stairs during commercials. And, instead of mowing over pine cones or raking them, I bent to get them, kept knees straight, and leaned this way and that to stretch to get them. It worked. Well, it seemed to work. hanging out clothes gave me some upward stretching, too.
ReplyDeleteAny additional movement is good I suppose-those snacks. I think though we need to be careful thinking though our day to day movements are enough exercise though to really help with muscle tone, weight management, and general well being. That's a trap I fell into.
