Positively Tuesday- Avoiding Annoyances

It's still cold but the ice will go eventually.

One joy of working from home is the intentionality needed to see and talk to people who in real life, annoy me. I don't have the initially polite hallway conversation that goes on too long, or someone poking their head in just because they walked by and were nosy rather than curious with "what are you working on" questions. Blogging kind of has that vibe too. DH has a couple doozies he works with, and I'm in shock that their employer puts up with their crap- retirement can't come soon enough for him. Trying to avoid life's annoyances is good for mental health.  Keeping positive even amongst days filled with annoyances is a good mindset.

  1. Trivia was good fun Wednesday. A friend that hadn't yet returned came so we had a good catch-up. We also placed 2nd.
  2. I slept in Saturday, other than a quick rise to take my pills and Tylenol for the headache I first woke up with. The headache was gone by the time I really got up.
  3. We had a lot of fun at my sister's for the card night and birthday, but we always do. And, we stayed, even DH, past 12:00 and didn't even turn into pumpkins.
  4. DH and I went to a open mic afternoon of music. We stayed for two of the four hours in Sunday and saw friends and aquaintances. Normally donations are for the school music program, but as they exceeded a few goals in previous weekends, this went to the non-profit food coop who are looking to expand space. We were happy to support the efforts.
  5. Sunday, though cold, was super sunny. I dressed warm and got pup out for a good morning walk, and a later early evening. He and I both need two a day for our mood and health.
  6. Last weekend when I went grocery shopping, I bought both hazelnut and French Vanilla coffee. It really is a simple pleasure, but I've enjoyed changing up from day to day, or the occasional afternoon brew.
  7. I made a big pot of vegan bean soup and invited my daughter for soup and calzones last night. I hadn't seen her in over a week so nice to catch up. Pup was thrilled!
  8. Had a DS originated conversation on Sunday about movies and entertainment. It was nice that he reached out first! He was suggesting that we see the new Batman on the "biggest screen and loudest sound possible." Depending on when DH gets home, maybe we'll go tonight, but just to our local theater.
  9. Our new neighbors to our right have a young corgie. He was outside and ran over to see us when we were walking up our sidewalk. His running with the short little legs was adorable. So far, both the young couple next door and across the street have been friendly and seem like they'll be good neighbors.

I felt a bit low last week and into the weekend. I was blaming it on a longer adjustment to the time change, but I know it might be the periodic cloud I sometimes get over my head. All the more reason to look for the joys and smiles, and try to eat and sleep well. I'm also not going to hole up too much, even if we get cold and rain. That's what warm coats and umbrella's are for. How about you? Let's share some good stuff in the comments.

  1. Oh, let's see:
    1) Sam reffed his first game on Saturday, & the kids had no clue how to play soccer. It was hilarious.
    2) Saturday was an absolutely gorgeous day, & I did plenty of walking in the sunshine.
    3) On the flip side, it rained steadily yesterday, and we need all of the rain we can get
    4) Sam had his first job interview, and reports that it went well
    5) We all played tennis together on Saturday evening, & it was really fun

  2. This time of year is rough for a lot of people. It's the home stretch of cold weather, and we're supposed to think of it as a time of warming temperatures and the flowers starting to grow, etc, whereas it's mostly just cold and the weather is often just gross. I start feeling claustrophobic and antsy and wanting to get outside, and it often puts me into a funk. It's really my least favorite time of year.

But as for good things: it's spring break for us, so we're having a lazy week. I'm sneaking in some extra reading and getting in a few extra projects here and there. I slept really well last night. My daughter made me breakfast this morning. The tulips are starting to come up in my yard. I have my neuro appointment today so hopefully this is the start of banishing these migraines. Lots of good things going on. :)

  3. With everything going on in the world right now it would be very easy to throw my hands up and give up. Paying attention to all of the good and all of the joys in daily life are what keep me sane.
    Have a great day Sam!!

  4. Sounds like some good positives for the week.
I'm sorry that you have been feeling a little down, but I'm glad that you are able to find some joys. I think the extra walks will do us all good. Hope you have a good week.

  5. I got outdoors for my first walk of the season yesterday, saw some wildlife and enjoyed the sunshine even though it was a bit cool. It was simply lovely!

  6. Good stuff after bad here. KL had reduced fetal movements on Saturday ( non existent) which was very scary. Monitoring at the hospital showed baby was fine. They arranged an ultrasound for Sunday, and her partner suggested I go to it as part of my mother's day gift. It was the best gift ever. He definitely is not giving his mummy the easiest of times. 27 weeks and she has just stopped feeling sick!
I had a good telephone appointment with the nurse today, who was sympathetic to the problems caused by having had covid when I already have ME/CFS. She was supportive and helpful.
We've done some more work in the front bedroom, so little and often is working well.
    Have a good week!

    1. I'm sure that was a relief for KL and you all. 27 weeks and now she really is on the last trimester. I hope your new medical person is able to work with you and find some relief.

  8. Loving all your positives, Sam! Glad you're feeling better and brighter, the sun always makes things seem better even if it is icy cold.
Good things? I'm meeting a friend and having a day out tomorrow, there's nights out planned, the cat's a lot better now he's had his jab, Jon & I celebrate 30 years of unmarried bliss on Friday...lots of lovely things! xxx

  9. Our weather is gray, and a bit chilly. The sun has, in the past 2 days, decided to make an appearance just before sunset. Talk about a tease.
Good news...DH had a Mohs procedure on Friday. OH MY WORD, did he have a bad weekend, as in, I was terrified. (Apparently the recovery is painful, at least, he says so.) But, today, he is back to making strides in recovery again. I am grateful for that.

    1. I'm glad he's making good strides, but yes, recovery is so hard I'm sure. Take care yourself too.

  10. Corgi puppies are the cutest, they look like little loaves of bread. Actually, they are always cute. Working from home has the advantages of not getting the looky loos, but you also miss the funny things that go on.

    1. I do miss the fun parts in the office, but I get so much more done here. Also no whacky drivers. I look forward to pup becoming pals with corgie- well doubtful.

  13. Looking for the bright side can be such a good reminder that there are so many happy things in life. One of the mis-thinkings I used to have was that I was always trying to get to a state of happiness, eg. "If I can do X, then I'll be happy." Not realizing that - like any emotion - happiness is fleeting, just like any other emotion. Now, I just try to find a few things a day (seeing new flower buds, a cute cat picture, enjoying the stretch from doing yoga) that make me happy and I revel in them.

We've been having bright days - not always sunny, but brighter, at least. Also, lots of squirrels around - I enjoy watching them. :)

    1. Yep- there's no " happy" on a calendar is there? Seeing joy everyday, simple, big, small, is where life is at. squirrels are fun to watch.

  14. Sunny days or at least not gloomy days, temps from 60s to 80, laughs with a new friend, reading, finding someone to work on house--inside and out.
