Feeling Good Friday-Let the Temptations Begin Edition
I got through Thanksgiving without putting any more weight back on, though haven't lost any either. Three weeks ago I included a list of five healthier habits or practices I would concentrate on to keep me at least holding even. Hit or miss many days, but having them posted in a cupboard door and at my desk at work, and reviewed via the blog, keeps them front of mind.
- Get the simple white flour pastas, bread, and rice off my plate.
- Drink 16 ounces of water to and from work each day. Eliminate caffeine after noon.
- Wind down without electronics before going to bed.
- Start my morning with 10 minutes of quiet meditation/reflection.
- Despite the cold, bundle up, walk at least two extra blocks.
These are all still necessary, and should see me to January 1 without the additional pounds. As other have commented, for many of us that celebrate the Christmas season, trying to lose weight in December is a lost cause. Focusing on healthy behaviors and not over indulging, not giving in to too many temptations, is a win in and of itself. The two hardest things have been the avoidance of simple carbs and water consumption. I have been remiss in meal planning or even meal option planning and it has showed in our weird meals this week. Hot dogs and baked sweet potatoes one night, a less than successful chicken cacciatore meal (from the cooking night) that I am now eating for lunch leftovers having been the only one that liked it, DH picked up a chicken meal, and pasta with sauce-with a loan turkey burger crumbled into the sauce. I know, from my hunger at weird times and very dry skin that I am not drinking enough water. Extra effort in the simple carbs and more water is needed.
Fridays are for reflecting on the positive, healthy things for my mind, body, and spirit.
- DD2 completely lost her voice and was run done to exhaustion. We decided it was in her best interest to stay home a full day Wednesday. It was the right call, despite the hectic choir rehearsal time. She is scheduled for a solo on the 16th, but if she is replaced for one sick day, she decided it was not the end of the world.
- Despite my commuting challenge, I did not let it get to me. Switching off news for holiday music, changed my mind set.
- I had end cap meetings on Wednesday that both could have been borderline hostile, opposite ends of perspectives, with two different groups. Both ended with collegiality, next steps and opportunities to meet in the middle.
- Writing blog posts beside a lit Christmas tree. Enough said.
- No weight gain!
We may head downtown tonight for a drink and to see the Christmas train pulling through town. It will be packed and cold, so it will depend on how DH and DD2 feel. She's having a movie day tomorrow with friends so she and I want to get all weekly house stuff done tonight and tomorrow morning. I plan to wrap, finish my village, and get some baking done since I'll have taste testers in the house. I'm not sure what is on the docket for Sunday-and I like that! Enjoy your weekend start.
The Christmas train sounds like a lovely way to get into the festive spirit. Looking forward to seeing some photos. Jx
ReplyDeleteGoing to a Christmas Train viewing does sound fun. Smart move to let the daughter stay home and recoup. And like you said if she loses a solo for one missed practice, well life will move on.
ReplyDeleteSmart move to just increase good habits. If I tried to drink 16 ounces on a commute home I would have to stop for a potty break though.
