Sam, Coffee, Money, & Thyme: Reclaiming a Sense of Normal

I'll have a Days Of Our Distanced Life [ost later, but I went back to the beginning of the restrictions, the lockdown, the stay at home life and found this exactly 30 week old post. Back then, my daughters college was only going to close for four weeks, we were going to be back in th eoffice in May presumably, and the curve would have been flattened. Instead, we have outbreaks and hot spots and the limited gatherings must continue if we are going to try and get to the other side.  It has been 7 full months-unreal to really think about.

Sam, Coffee, Money, & Thyme: Reclaiming a Sense of Normal:      I've only blogged five times in the last two weeks and most of that was ranting. I still see I'm having a reader or two, so tha...

  1. I was reading about your son- mine hasn't been home for the holidays for probably 20 years! He does come home every year and I flew to SF where he lives last Thanksgiving. Now the daughter who lived there has relocated to Atlanta so she and family are much closer. I got to see her and the 2 grands last weekend. Believe me, my sis who drove her new car (one of the covid perks- deals on cars) were very careful and wore masks the couple of times we had to stop. Thanksgiving will probably just be me but I'm looking forward to making something glorious- maybe a German chocolate cake hehe. My sis and local daughter both have college aged kids coming home then and I really don't want to be around them. Weird times for sure!!!

    1. WE got my son home twice in 2019, so I guess I can't be too downhearted. Do you make your German Chocolate cake with the carmelly coconut frosting? My mom had one that was so good-a rare treat. Now tha tI think abou tit, the frosting was probably odd for a German Chocolate cake-coconut, but so good.

  2. It is really crazy and it's depressing as well. This year has totally messed up our retirement plan. I haven't been posting lately because mine would all be complaining and rants right now. It sucks!

    1. Posting helps me try and channel all the frustration I have. And then I read blog posts where folks are upset about things canceling, and then comments go into rant that it is all a conspiracy to have government control-yep, the entire world is in on this conspiracy. I keep trying to see what is still good-what still brings people joy, and I appreciate reading when others are finding their joy.

  3. I remember those days in your previous post when we thought it would be over possibly by mid summer. We were all wrong! Now I am trying to content myself doing what I can do instead of dwelling on what I can't. The operative word is trying !

  4. 7 months indeed - and more to go alas.
this is when people start getting impatient and forgo logic for denial and wishful thinking to discard rules - and create a 2nd wave.

    1. I had the NBC news program on and they described the spikes as the third wave-as there was the original, then in late June, an dnow again. The severe illness of my daughters healthy school mate really knocked me in the gut. Indeed, impatience may be our downfall for moving forward without a vaccine, or a widely available vaccine.
