Not a My Wednesday Pantry post at all but a plea for those that are able and have not done so to get thee vaccinated. The chart below was just pulled and posted from the following website, Our World in Data. One of my dear readers shared a sad story that her coworker came down with Covid, and passed it on to her grandmother that did not survive. Look at these fully vaccinated rates. We have people all over the world dying and not able to get a vaccine, and here we have walk in clinics waiting. I do not want anyone else to die from something that was avoidable if people around them would have taken every precaution. And not wanting to be a victim blamer, how sad for people that took every precaution and were inadvertently in harms way, and then passed on to someone vulnerable.
This data shows the total number of doses given in each location. Since some vaccines require more than 1 dose, the number of fully vaccinated people is often lower. "+" shows data reported yesterday·
My work is tangentially part of the response to the impact of Covid. I have been working between 50 and 55 hours per week for the last 16 months. This week, I will likely log 65. This will be the norm for the next few weeks and I am tired. I still can't even imagine how the health care workers that are in the immediate care of Covid patients are not off their feet with exhaustion. We all want to get out of this awful circle. While it feels good to have things open up a bit, and be able to get out of the house, see classic cars at the car show, listen to live music with friends, and all the other things that are opening up. We can't lose sight that millions of people are still at risk of getting Covid and being woefully ill or worse. Mask up, wash hands, and please help get people to be vaccinated! 37.9% fully vaccinated is not good enough.
I really wish your plea would do some good. If I though it would I would be putting up the same kind of post. Unfortunately I don't think it will do a thing. The anti-vaxxers aren't going to change their minds or start wearing masks out of the kindness of their hearts. It's shameful! People in other countries all want it and some desperate for it, while people here act like a bunch of stupid idiots!
We are making progress here in California, but more work to do. I need to sort out the boys second shots. They have finals that day, and I need a later appointment. I *think* I can bring them back at any time during that day, and still get in. Fingers crossed. After that, everyone in my family (parents, sister, nephews, husband, kids, aunts, uncles) will be double vaccinated.
I join in your plea. I've had two doses (Pfizer) but am one of that tiny segment of the population who do not develop antibodies so I rely on others getting vaccinated so that the virus will no longer be present in the community.
I'm with you and have been encouraging my clients to get vaccinated- some totally refuse and in their case, it's not politics but just ignorance 'that you don't know what is in that shot.' Yet they all get flu shots yearly! My county is 46% vaccinated so a little better. I've had 3 in person meetings- the last one everyone was masked including the clients indoors. I appreciated that. My BIL in Myrtle Beach came down with Covid last week- he flew to your state Mother's Day weekend for a funeral and probably caught it there or on the airplane. Sis is livid- she and nephews were vaccinated in January but husband never got around to it. Personally I think he's a Trumper. Enough from me!
I really don't understand people, and I don't like them much either. According to the chart, 41% of Virginians are vaccinated. Thankfully more of the older, more vulnerable have received a vaccine. But we still have a long way to go. :(
As I said, this post was more venting and speaking to like minded folks, but maybe someone uses this link and it helps make a case. Maybe some people think we are doing better than we are so think they are in the minority and will get to it eventually. Mr Trump got the vaccine-I so wish he would let his big mouth talk more about that to his "fans." He also was sick enough (supposedly) from Covid that he required hospitalization.
I was reluctant to get the vaccine, as I have avoided all flu vaccinations for the past decade. I showed up at a pop-up clinic on a whim. Yes, it was a rough 18 hours following my one-dose Johnson and Johnson, and, frankly, if that was a taste of the virus, I'm glad I got the vaccine. A dear friend, my age, otherwise healthy, contracted COVID about 8 weeks ago, before she could get the vaccine, and is still on oxygen. Her teenage daughters also got it, and the older one still has no sense of smell, and limited taste. I don't know when we got so brainwashed in this country that we started going backwards, and ignoring science, and believing nonsense. Anti-vaxxers are a special kind of magical-thinking morons, in my book. Seriously, I am sometimes glad my parents are not alive to see this woo.
I find it ironic that people who refuse to allow women "choice" about their bodies are demanding "choice" when it comes to vaccines. Gotta love 'Merica!
How infuriating! England is at 70% of the adult population now. We're off for our second jab tomorrow. The main vaccination centre in our town administered 6000 vaccines yesterday. x
I just found out that my sister-in-law is not vaccinated (and I'm not sure what her reasoning is), and neither are her adult children. I also have a niece who is not getting the vaccine because she's pregnant and is worried about fertility (vaccine has nothing to do with fertility). These people are all on my husband's side of the family.
My entire family (four siblings plus lots of nieces and nephews) is fully vaccinated and let me tell you it has been so freeing to be able to see them again! Despite our governor (CT) lifting mask rules, I will continue to wear a mask any time I'm indoors with people I don't know. I would never trust people enough to believe that they've been vaccinated.

DeleteI pray this works. I just don't understand it. My feeling is that any adult who gets covid in this part of the country deserves it. SO frustrating.

Where I've been either the store/ business required masks, or most people I saw were still wearing. I've had diminishing trust in others for sure.
