Snow piles run down the middle of side streets downtown |
I had a very enjoyable Saturday despite nothing "fun" by typical December standards. I feel like I made a nice dent in my list to help my family and friend's have a nice Christmas and New Year's. I love having a clean and organized refrigerator and that was how I started my day. I ended up not really grocery shopping as I easily can create an abundance of meals and want a sparce freezer and fridge for next week's efforts. I got gifts moved to my office ready to wrap, and got a good chunk of my cards addressed and ready to go. But, I missed the post office for international mail so tomorrow I'll either sneak downtown during the work day or just go to the UPS store.
DH got off work a bit early so we got the dog walked while still light. The neighborhood kids were hard at work trying to get snow forts and snowmen made, helped by the sunny day making the snow stickier. We always get a huge snow pile at the edge of our yard, and there were tunnels burrowed into it. My neighbor girl called me over to see her and her siblings work and give approval. I can't add up how many tunnels my kids made over the years in that same spot. Nice to see the tradition continue and a good snow pile not go to waste.
Today will be wrapping day, plus finalizing my giving list. There's just a few things to pick up and maybe will do that today. No Vikings football on television so maybe I can convince DH to tag along and we can get a happy hour lunch in. Though, I'm fine skipping that and maybe just a coffee or hot chocolate out and about. I wanted to share the cocoa bombs my friends daughter made and sold for a little extra Christmas money. I got DH this set of four Oreo flavored. I have four milk chocolate small ones, two of which will go with the thermos and thermal mug for a brother--in-law. Doesn't she do a nice job? So fancy. She charged $18 a four pack and I'm happy to support local crafters. The small were $3 a piece. Have you ever tried to makes these? I've seen loads of fails online.
Meals this week may be...
- Pork chops, apple sauce, rice pilaf
- Tacos with rice and beans
- Tuna hotdish
- Crockpot lasagna or pizza hotdish
- Turkey meatloaf and mashed potatoes
- Chicken wild rice soup and bread- likely Friday as DD2 is coming home for her break
- Leftovers
The rinks are up but will need some shovels. |
Hello Sam, You title this Enjoyable Day and then show huge piles of snow--apparently it takes a lot to faze you!
ReplyDelete--Jim
In January I'll whine, but December I'm in awe of the snow.
DeleteThose are beautiful! I would be all over those chocolates. Yum. :-)
ReplyDeleteWe had a really nice day. The boys & I volunteered at a soccer tournament, I got to watch Sam play (Nick is injured) & then we came home & had dinner, the boys got to open a gift (we open them a bit sporadically, as we don't take them to my parents house) & everyone was in finals prep mode.
I think even at 60 he'll get a kick out if the cocoa bombs melting into a cup of hot milk. My daughter has her finals Monday-Wednesday, tests and papers, and projects. She's then staying a couple extra days for just fun before heading home for two 1/2 weeks.
DeleteThose chocolate balls look so good. Bailey made them one year, but we think they are a lot of work. Better to pay someone else to do that. LOL 😂
ReplyDeleteYour meals sound good. One of my favorite soups is Chicken and Rice.
She and her husband are both school teachers plus have a little guy. This helps her make a little money and gives me a unique gift.
DeleteThose chocolates are a work of art, what a talented young woman.
ReplyDeleteI can't get over those snopw piles, they're huge! xxx
Lots of snow for sure. It's pretty in December but I'll be cursing it 1/2 way in January. She does a nice job on the cocoa bombs.
DeleteMy kids always used to build igloos in the middle of the island in front of my house - the snow plough helped out by ploughing as much snow into the centre as possible. Happy days weren't they (until somebody needed help taking off four layers of clothes because they needed the bathroom)!
ReplyDeleteThey were out today. The other side was getting tunnels made. It makes me a little nervous though as their basically playing in the street. I'd rather they come to our yard side.
DeleteSitting here in Toronto with not a flake of snow!! I was struggling with what to make for dinner and read turkey in your post and remembered that I had a turkey breast in the freezer, voila, dinner solved!
ReplyDeleteI have some sliced turkey in the freezer. I'll make ground turkey meatloaf one night I think. Tonight is pork chops. Odd how you're farther north with no snow.
DeleteI can't believe I'm saying this, but, your pictures make me miss snow. At least, I feel like I miss it around this time of year. But, this time of year I find myself waxing nostalgic, and missing things like downtown shopping, etc.
ReplyDeleteSunday is low key. I'm going to make some cards while DH watches football. He's healing quite well, but we are taking things slowly. Yesterday he rode along as I ran some errands and poked in two thrift shops. It was a great day to thrift: I found two, 100% cotton, white pillowcases for $0.49/each, my crystal glasses, double old fashioned style for $0.25/each, a long sleeved, black, 100% cotton Bass t-shirt for me, and a green, short sleeve, Duluth Trading t-shirt for DH, for (I think) $2/each. The latter will be a Christmas gift. Home to have an oven ready, Butterball turkey breast I bought on markdown. It was o.k., but I think it would have done better in the slow cooker.
Have a great week, Sam, and thanks for the positive, healing vibes you've sent my way.
December snow is always beautiful. I hope he keeps listening to you and has a strong recovery- he's in smart hands. I braved Aldi and it was a zoo so just came home. I'll see if my daughter wants to thrift this week. You did so well!
DeleteYou definitely got more snow than we did. It does look pretty and so clean yet. Sounds like you are getting everything under control and without causing yourself any undue stress - must be a good feeling. I think the chocolate bombs are a pretty interesting idea. I also think you got them for a decent price and look to be of very good quality. I don't think they are easy to make, but having the right equipment and a lot of patience is essential for success, I'm sure. I like the idea of packaging the choc.bomb in a thermos. Brilliant! Sun is shining bright and I am off to visit my dad in his assisted living apartment and to decorate his door for Christmas. They have a contest going on and will be judged this week. I do not think he will be in the running but I didn't want to let him down, so have put together a bit of something and have a bunch of plastic snowflakes that I will put up using poster putty. Has to be somewhat simple just so it won't be a hassle to get in out of his apartment. Wish me luck. Ranee (MN)
ReplyDeleteDH is to thank for finding a Black Friday deal on the thermos set. My friend had the cocoa bomb idea. I'd make a mess even with the right equipment. Good luck to your dad. That sounds festive. My daughter's Acapella group sang at a nursing home and a winter fest up north today.
DeleteThat's quite a bit of snow.
ReplyDeleteI've made the cocoa bombs a few times over the last couple of years. They make great gifts. As long as you have a silicone sphere mold it is actually not difficult.
Glad you're enjoying a peaceful weekend.
I'd mess it up, Lori! I think they will be a nice gift for people hard to buy for.
DeleteI love the 'not much to say' posts; they are often my favorites.
ReplyDeleteThey sort of ramble but kind of like a coffee catch-up with friends.
DeleteI would love to have at least one cocoa bomb! However, I won't be making them, just buying if I have one.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if they'll make delicious cocoa or not but they are pretty.
