I may do a stock up/ meal plan shop today. I'm hoping to get in on the Ibotta craze and get my Red Barron pizza which I'd perhaps claim for supper tonight because I have work- work to do after receiving a text that something's needed by 9:00 a.m. tomorrow. If not, we've got a different frozen pizza. Christmas was over a month ago and I still have some lingering items. They're shelf stable for now, or in the freezer but note to self, next December I really need to back off. I won't need peanut butter, pecans, craisins, or white chocolate for a while. Not that I ever needed white chocolate. If I can find macadamia nuts that aren't an arm and a leg, I'll whip up some cookie dough for the freezer. I had birthday cards to get yesterday at Dollar Tree, and between there and a Kwik Trip stop, I wouldn't need to go grocery shopping. But I'm getting ahead of my self. First, how did last week fare? I planned and stayed on planned, but
- Sunday: Dinner out
- Monday: Turkey meatloaf and rice pilaf
- Tuesday: Pork loin, homemade applesauce, roasted potatoes
- Wednesday: leftovers, I was meeting my daughter for Trivia
- Thursday: Pulled pork, baked beans ( I really wanted coleslaw but DH said the deli counter's looked old, and he didn't think to just buy cabbage and dressing)
- Friday: leftovers- just couldn't be bothered again and there was plenty of bits to get a meal. DH hadn't come home for lunch much this week, so hadn't been eating leftovers. It's rare that we have two leftover meals in a week because he's just not a fan, but he wasn't about to do any cooking either.
- Saturday: Happy Hour food, no dinner needed
It was two meals out, a lot in one week after being such homebodies. I need to keep being a kitchen homebody the rest of the month and conserve cash for my daughter's and my trip. The plan for the week is mostly same old, but we like what we like.
- Sunday: Frozen pizza( freezer space is limited so this helps keep it clear), salad
- Monday:Hamburgers, ( DH bought cheddar and bacon versions we had a couple weeks ago and there's still 4) french fries
- Tuesday: Enchilada beef, bean, and cheese bake, rice
- Wednesday: Spinach, cheese and bacon ( using up bacon in a couple dishes) quiche, with fruit and strawberry bread
- Thursday: Chicken bacon wraps, salad
- Friday: Crockpot pizza hotdish
- Saturday: Chicken tortellini soup, bread sticks
Easily, there could be a leftover night thrown in. DH still goes out or picks up lunch 1-2 days a week, skips it if he's eaten a big breakfast or can't get away, and comes home a couple days. If he eats leftovers for lunch he doesn't want them for supper. I'll just eat lunch at home, but I'm meeting a friend for coffee and a walk on Friday. That's why Friday has to be easy. This whole plan of course is subject to change. Who knows when I'll do a real shop again and may just continue to fill around the edges. What's planned for your table?
It all sounds delicious, Sam. I’ve been doing a stock up this week too on some basic pantry items. It’s so nice to be stocked up, so meal planning is much easier.
ReplyDeleteI ended up more with a three stop, not really a stock up shop, but we'll be good for a few weeks. The menu may end up quite different though.
DeleteI was able to claim a lot of space in the freezer by eating out of it last week. I was able to take advantage of some deals on fish and meat. So, now the freezer is well stocked. I doubt I will need any meat products before March. Unfortunately, the frozen pizzas sold in our grocery shops in this country are less than mediocre. I also dislike the chain pizzas like Dominoes, Little Ceasar's and etc. I make my own may be once a month. Cooking for one is boring and sometimes I end up with more leftovers than I want.
ReplyDeleteThe frozen pizza worked last night. It's not a version we'd normally have but was ok. I ty being better at smaller quantities when I cook, but it's not always easy.
DeleteI'm more likely to pull something from the freezer the night prior based on what I think I'll want to eat the following day. I grilled chicken last night with roasted veg on the side and there is one full breast left. Sometime this week I'll cut it up to use it in a stir fry. There is a package of ground pork thawing in the fridge for tonight...I'm thinking chili or maybe Spanish rice. I'll decide later.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
I so often don't have a clue the night before but at least sort of having a plan has been helpful even if not followed.
DeleteI count everything food, health and beauty, pet food and household spending together and I figured up the total for January was a little over 550.00. With prices going up and having a fully stocked pantry I'm pretty happy with that amount.
ReplyDeleteWe'll be doing a shopping trip next Saturday but we're basically just replacing items that get pulled from the pantry at this point.
Have a good Sunday!!
I need to do the tally. It will be under average, and ven with my weekend shops. I tend to include food then a seperated tracking for household and personal care.
DeleteWe have a variety of leftovers that I would love to eat today and tomorrow. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow and there is in Aldi nearby so I’ll run in there to top off for the week. I’m thinking taco Tuesday, pasta and chicken, pork chops and rice, fish and pierogies. I’ll need meat and veggies and a few other things. More snow forecasted the end of the week so trying to get things done early on. JoAnn
ReplyDeleteSo much snow you all got. Best to make those stops when you can. I'm sure we'll have a big storm yet before spring.
DeleteYesterday I made a triple batch each of spaghetti meat sauce & tacos. We will eat some this week, & two batches of each went to the freezer. Tonight will be chicken curry & rice. Leftovers of each meal will get us through, and then we will likely have pizza on Friday.
ReplyDeleteI even tried doing pork different ways but even then we're bored. Nice for you having those meals ready for the future too.
DeleteThere's still beef stroganoff/egg noodles, corn salad & turkey soup in the fridge. I'm enjoying egg salad & home-grown sprouts on toast for bkft. Many bags of frozen raspberries were used to bake 2 pies this past week. Yes, I am eating that pie myself, one slice a day for now with vanilla ice cream. One pie was taken to my neighbors. Next on the menu, baked salmon with brussels sprouts. On the kitchen agenda - valentine sugar cookies to mail to the grandkids.
ReplyDeleteYou should enjoy your hard work on that pie. Your grands are quite lucky to get cookies sent.
DeleteI generally write a week's menu plan, but it's not set in stone - meals can and do get swapped around sometimes. I love leftovers! I love the challenge of turning leftovers into something equally tasty - or even better than the original.
ReplyDeleteMy plan is more a guide. It's been helpful to see items I'd forget. I don't do great with re-creating leftovers unless all components were seperate to begin with.
DeleteI have no inspiration to cook whatsoever, which is odd for me. Last night I asked DH if he'd enjoy another slow cooked roast today, as last week's was such a hit. I woke up, however, unable to face it. I took out some ground beef, and will make either meat loaf and mashed potatoes or pasta with ground beef. That's it, that's all I have. Well, I did find some Rollos, so I told a kid I'd make the Rollos pretzel treats today. I have some Valentine's themed paper candy flutes I want to find a use for before the move, otherwise, I'd keep the Rollos until next Christmas. THAT is the thought process I am applying to meal choices these days--what can I use up before our move in (hopefully) June.
ReplyDeleteI don't think you've been crabby. I think you might be a tad sarcastic IRL, something which always doesn't translate well in writing, but not crabby. And even so, we're allowed to be crabby at times. You should have heard me driving home from the eye doctor on Thursday. It was a bad day--bad week, really. I'm not sure why, as we are all healthy, and DH is improving daily, I was just feeling fed up. My running commentary on my fellow motorists had the passengers in stitches, which only infuriated me more. I came home fit to be tied. You could *FEEL* my displeasure in the air. For the next two hours or so, the household was extremely solicitous of me. (I was over it as soon as I noticed their efforts, but decided to take advantage of the down time!) In any case, my youngest told me yesterday, as he swore brilliantly at a Honda who cut him off as we were driving back from picking out lighting, that he was certain "becoming profane while driving is hereditary on the mother's side."
Sarcasm runs deep, and yes, it probably comes out as cold and snotty in written word. I just think some things people do or say are just so strange- which doesn't bother me in and of itself, I just poke at it perhaps. I won't make the rolo pretzels outside of Christmas because I have no will power and they are so good.
DeleteYou are organised, I don't plan - what I cook is guided by how I feel when I return from work - if I am tired it is something very simple, if I am cold or weary then it is something comforting and warming, if I am inspired I end up making something new. If I am uninspired then it is just an old favourite like baked potatoes or macaroni cheese!
ReplyDeleteI figure there's ideas some where even if I veer off course. Like I bought some delicious cheese so just might have to make homemade macaroni and cheese even though not planned.
DeleteSounds good Sam! I have a big pot of soup on now that will be dinner tonight and probably the next two nights as well. I'll be working on the rest of my plan this evening.
ReplyDeleteI bought more bullion base, so now soup will probably be in the menu. I just need to manage freezer again as there's several frozen portions already.
DeleteI suppose we had leftovers tonight. That was not the intention, but it happened and Tommy was okay with leftovers. I have 3 lbs of ground beef thawed, fajita meat, and two pork tenderloins. I really need to start cooking and freezing all that thawed meat! If we like something, we eat it more often and are happy. I saw a menu plan someone made for two months and was proud nothing was repeated. That would make me very unhappy.
ReplyDeleteThat is a lot of cooking with so much thawed meat. Good luck to you, but now you know what'll be ready for you for future meals. We are grateful for every meal, just prefer more variety though, I mean in same week. I'd never be able to plan two months without repeating and certainly wouldn't let food be wasted just to not repeat.
