Friday Free for All- Rant Averted

Once again it's Friday and in 2022, that means a  no topic, any topic, free for all blogging day. The tidbits of my brain that don't fit elsewhere. Before that, thanks for the kind words for my daughter. She had an unfortunate visit in that one positioning screw wasn't the right length and they need to order and have her come in yet again in two weeks, so another step. That falls right before we leave for our girls trip. I feel bad for her, and she was in a bit more pain this time than fall already. Imagine being a young person, already with a very  diminished social life due to repeated quarantines, extra precautions, and now having  an extra dental procedure because of either bad fortune or an error with ordering the right piece to begin with. I stayed with her while she had a hard sleep for several hours, falling asleep myself, but then she was doing pretty well managing her discomfort. She's a tough cookie. As for Friday, here's my random blather.

Super Bowl Sunday: Not that I care that much, but DS's team away from his home is playing, the LA Ram's, so I guess we can put a toe in the water to giving two shits about who wins. We'll do our family game where we all pick a winner, and a score. For those that pick the right team, we use score differential/closest to determine the winner. Winner gets Coffee gift card-so mom loses even if I win. I'm not even pumped for the new silly commercials since they are now offered before and on line should I really want to take a peak. The folks we might normally spend the game with are on vacation; my sister and her husband did end up getting to go with the others. I'll probably do some baking. I have chocolate-chocolate chip cookie dough froze and tons of bananas to use, but we have $10 bonus cash from Applebee's to use before 2/28 so might be a good night to use that and  more of the paid for gift card. Did you know the day after Super Bowl Sunday is one of the biggest "sick" days in the US workforce? This is just one of many articles on the habit.

New Prayer Phone Apps?: On Thursday I needed to print something and not sure what happened, but we had no ink for the printer. I had bought new cartridges in December 2020 and I didn't think we hardly printed anything. The black and white didn't  print at all, and the color only had a weird blue tone, missing parts of the document.  On the way to the library to borrow the printer there, there was a NPR program about Prayer Apps, that apparently are really gaining momentum. I suppose it didn't surprise me with so many people relying on their phones for everything, but it just seemed weird. Enter your woe, and have 1,000,000 of your closest app users pray with you. Let the church of iPhone lead you to a better relationship with God. No thank you, but if you want to learn more Google  NPR radio prayer app, lots of related stories come up.

Triggered on Instagram:  I had a big old rant typed up, but got it out of my system. I'll simplify the rant, though maybe it's still long, to say I'm wiping out a bunch of follows and YouTube subscriptions after a certain story meme about being a rebel in 2022 was popping up on so many of  these mommy vlogger IG sites. I can't contribute by viewing a video, an ad watch, a tally to anyone still living in 1954. I totally support the choices of all mom's doing what they do, and hell, I'll fight to help all defend their choice. But no more nonsense from these self righteous numbsters looking down their noses at women who want to be seen as individuals and not an extension of "their man". I'm embarrassed at what I thought was quaint, is stupidity and the result of subtle and direct misogyny. If anyone wants the full rant, let me know. I can be a judgmental cow, but when it comes to human rights, I will be judgey as all get out.

Edit: I started watching vlogs on YouTube for travel, cooking,  thrifting, healthy living and other topics of interest. A few just happened to be by mom's and I learned things including time management tips. Most are not mom vloggers.

Ninja Sponser Me: I'm just kidding, but if Vloggers can beg for freebies, worth a shot, right? Seriously, I am just liking this machine more and more. I used the  XL Travel mug feature today, and with the right amount of coffee, perfection. The travel mug is a Yeti knock off from Scheel's, received in a swag bag at a socially distanced blogger event in October 2020 and it is a keeper. Stuff stays hot forever in the mug. With so many crap products out there, and granted I've only been using this coffee maker a few weeks, it's nice to share good experiences. We've had a Ninja blender thing forever, and I use as a blender and a sort of low power food processor. We gave a similar one to our daughter on her birthday in 2016 and hers gets a work out and is still going strong. Ninja, you make good products.

That's my free for all for the week. I'm going to join my daughter tonight to watch the Jennifer Lopez/Owen Wilson romcom Marry Me streaming on Peacock. She has a month free access. DH is covering for his boss, so has a long day today, and early tomorrow. I've already had a busy work morning, hence the later post and I am ready for the weekend. Please join in the comments with anything top of your mind.

  1. Happy Friday Sam! I LOVE Ninja products. We bought their blender/processor/smoothie machine probably in 2006. We just replaced it in 2018 or 2019 with the updated model. In December I bought their 13 in 1 flip oven/air fryer. Game changer. It does everything!! I was able to get rid of the toaster and convection oven and now just have the one appliance on that counter.

    1. With my daughters machine being 5 years old, and ours older, it will be interesting to see if their newer stuff stands the test of time as well. Stuff is too expensive to replace frequently and then the disposal of all this stuff is hard to see. I joined the Ninja forum on FB, but I'm on so seldom I haven't seen anything posted.

  2. I don't read any of the mommy bloggers, so I have no idea what is going on.
I have noticed a lot of vloggers who do beg for sponsorships or Patreon subscribers. Maybe this will work for you!
As soon as my current air fryer dies I will replace it with the Ninja combo.

    1. These are more Vlogs on YouTube that I like ot have on while I cook or am doing laundry and most have Instagram-where I saw the hideous post. I truly hope people took the "beg" as a joke. with so much crap being made, my last coffee maker being the worst, I'm happy to hare good experiences.

  3. Sometimes a good purge is necessary for who you follow or subscribe to! It’s been a roller coaster of emotions this week. I’ll include Saturday when we celebrated my daughter accepting a college by going axe throwing, something I’ve wanted to do for years. It was so much fun, highly recommend. Sunday we go the news that my husbands uncle died in a tragic accident, at the age of 51. Of course everything with his family is complicated and this was no different. Who should go, who shouldn’t go, are we even “invited”-it turned into an unfortunate, complicated ordeal. Monday I had extensive testing done at the hospital, with no real results yet since the doctor doesn’t want to see me back until the 24th. Tuesday I played Cupid and gave a co-worker and the armored truck driver who picks up our store deposits a little nudge in the right direction ;) They are now going to dinner on Saturday. Wednesday we got the news that another coworker has finally been cleared to return to work from Covid at Thanksgiving, and her husband not surviving. That was also the day an underclassman at my daughters school punched a teacher and broke their nose and got pulled out of school by the police. Thursday was the uncle’s viewing and the shit show that followed with my 17 y/o declaring the whole family is messed up bc no one can get along. She is not wrong. Today has been quiet, but im exhausted to the core. Three more hours and then im off for the weekend. Our Super Bowl meal is probably the 23 lb turkey defrosting in my fridge. Very traditional lol.

I need a solo vacation, preferably somewhere warm. Or padded. JoAnn

    1. that's very sad about your coworker being so sick and losing her husband. BEing that we have etended family drama, I can relate. I'm jut trying to be a good wife, mom, sister-to both mine and DH's siblings, even if we don't all see eye to eye. At least we can have discussions now about our disagreements. I love the idea of a good turkey dinner. One a year is not enough!

  4. I think I might have heard "your rant" by my granddaughter who just canceled etc. a lot of that. Not sure if we will watch the superbowl... Hubby not really into that kind of thing and the kids/grandkids don't travel this far for that either.

    1. I think your grand daughter might be n my daughters age range and I can imagine she would have hit the ceiling had she seen it. My husband almost goes into a bored mourning period after football season ends.. He has college basketball to look forward to. I wish he would develop a love of hockey as that seems to be nearly year round now!

  5. Im sorry your daughter has to wait for the second to implant. I hope it isn't too hard a process for her.
I don't read mommy blogs, so am also out of the loop on those. I've occasionally stopped reading a blog when I've realized the blogger's values and mine seriously misalign, I generally catch that early on.
I'm looking for a small toaster oven, will check out Ninja maybe they have one. Thanks, Celie

    1. I'm referring to the vlogs on YouTube which I like ot hav eon while I cook or do laundry. Much is shopping and meal prep, and crafts, DIY etc. Be lucky you were out of the loop, but I am glad that what did not immediately present in video, came out in another way. I find it toxic to other young women.

  6. It's been a tough week, other than KL's 20 week scan. Her new house was not as it should have been. The ' flagging' I wrote of on my post has turned into pain and exhaustion. The ME crash is imminent... I can feel it. To top it all off J had a bump in the hire van just as we arrived back at the street where the hire place is situated, which cost us the £500 insurance excess. Thank goodness for the news that our grandchild is developing well, because my body and my bank balance have been hammered this week.

    1. I'm sorry your week was tough. The baby scan sure has to be a bright spot. The rental insurance is atrocious enough.

  7. I'm so sorry to hear about your daughters dental issues, poor kid. I was ready to rant today too but did something different on my blog instead of my usual Friday weekly update. Not sure about what your rant would have been all about, but I can only imagine! Have a great weekend Sam. :)

  8. So sorry about your daughter’s dental issues. I go to the dentist far more than I go to the doctor, so I can relate. I do not have any idea about vlogs. Never watched one. Cindy in the South

    1. What was done went well-the extra in between step because if the wrong screw is the issue. My girls started me on YouTube and they sort of suck you. Covid casualty.

  9. I was on my own rant about misogynistic episode of Gunsmoke. I went on the length of the episode. The whole series is awful in how it treats women. But, this episode took the cake. I have a rant ready to publish on my blog.

Did your daughter have bone implanted in the jaw first? If so, was it pig or human bone? One dr will do pig bone for me, the other human bone. I feel for her having this extra step.

  10. Sending lots of healing wishes to your daughter.
I've never watched a Vlog or knowingly read any blog by a "mummy blogger", I'm child-free through choice, that and being unmarried upsets a lot of those kind of women!
I'm not sure how you'd get a company to sponsor you but it must be possible, maybe an email to their head office extolling the virtues of the product you own and love might help?
    Have a fab weekend! xxx

    1. I started watching vlogs for travel, cooking,thrufting- some just happen to be done by Moms who vlog, so wasn't an intentional to watch Mommy blogs- that's me now being snarky. As for sponsoring, I was joking, but as much as I've prattled on someone might think I'm on the Ninja payroll. Thanks for the kind thoughts for my daughter.

  11. Hope your daughter is feeling ok. So sorry that she has to go through all this again. Ouch.
Thanks for the ninja review. I'll check into them.
I don't watch vlogs since I find many of them to be annoying. I was on ivillage/parentsplace back in the day when my kids were little so probably 20 years ago but that is the closest I got to a mommy blog. Wow on the prayer app. I guess I am just too cynical but I wonder how many ads will be targeted to those people's prayers. I'm sure the app is making money somehow. Let's just hope there aren't gun ads for someone considering suicide or dating ads for those going through a breakup.
Hope you have a great weekend.

    1. I added an edit to clarify it was the content I was following, and some leaned into the mommy world but that wasn't what originally Drew me in. My daughter was better yesterday, just frustrated a bit. No doubt at all the Prayer Apps are for target marketing. Which when you think about why and when and what for people pray, seems predatory.

  12. If you are a judgmental cow, I will plop down on my patch of grass and moo right along with you! Excellent rant. I'll sometimes fall down a blog hole and find some good homemaking advice, only to be run over by a whooollllllle lot of misogynistic nonsense about how I'm supposed to base my entire identity on being a wife and mother. WHAT??!??? Nope, sorry, I'm a person, too, and a lot more than just who I am to other people (I love being a wife and mother! But I'm plenty of other things as well). SING IT, SAM!!!

    1. I love family units, but I have a broad definition of family, and how partners aren't subservient to each other. I want more for my daughter's, my friends daughters, strangers daughter's. And again, more doesn't mean they need to make my choices. I'm glad you commented, Stephanie. Something tells me we could wander in pastures having good old tatters!
