It's the world humans are in and let's just say a lot of us muck up everything. Ukraine and its citizens are on my mind of course, as are people in parts of Africa and the middle east who's leaders always have their nations in conflict or are defending from agressesion. Seeing pictures of mother's and children making maltov cocktails is sad, courageous; what else should they do to protect themselves?
These days, I need to read things that not only makes me smile, but laugh out loud. Animals and small kids often are comedians without the even trying. I appreciate those with talent to make others laugh more than ever. Have you ever heard of webtoons? I hadn't until an article about John Atkinson's Webtoons popped up. It's a long read with some ad pop ups, but the toons are funny. I love the Christmas Carol toon. Anyway, I hope you don't miss a day with humor, while still caring about the world.
I've had a good first couple days with my girls. DC at any time has a different feeling, a charge. Throw a few world crisies in, and it has potential to feel electrified, but so far we've not seen much difference, but could today with the State of the Union address and expected protests. We didn't venture over, but saw in the news the barricades and fencing was going back up. Here's my weekly joys, smiles, and simple pleasures from the road.
You knew we had to Stroll to Kramer's Books for a simple pleasure. |
- While my work days were long, DH left work early a couple times and we actually ate dinner together both Tuesday and Wednesday together.
- It was impromptu, but we went out for dinner with my four of my sister's and two brother in laws Friday night.
- College kid got home safely. She forgot her power cord for her computer at her work, and it got locked up Friday. Fortunately it was both found and she had problem solved how she'd finish some work while home without it.
- Pup and I were on a walk when DD1 stopped in Saturday to borrow DH's suitcase after determining hers was too large for carryon. Pup lost his mind in excitement seeing her. He did same when the other daughter came in. Seeing how much my dog loves my kids and back is pure joy.
- We travelled safely to DC. Isn't that most import?
- We got upgraded to a one bedroom suite so more room for the three of us.
- DH is taking good care of pup, who's quite stressed with us all gone. He's kept us posted.
- We've had some "us" caused blips, and not self caused, but we're taking the mindset my son had when we'd have minor mishaps in our Europe trip-everythings just part of the adventure. It really does help.
- Sunday and Monday caught up with us, so we had a night in with take out and a bottle of wine in the room. We watched the totally stupid, but belly laughing at times, The Other Guys.
- Finally, I'll end with the joy that I'm with my girls. How many times will this be possible for a full day, let alone a week. I'm absorbing the time.
Chips and guacamole with my girls
is a double joy. This was at Mi Vida.
I thought there would be a stretch of days with no posts, so this is good. I have been absorbing lots of dog and children funnies. They make me smile and relieve the stress of the sights in Ukraine, such horrible sights. I turn my laptop so Tommy can see the antics and we both can laugh.
ReplyDeletePosting on phone. I have down times.
DeleteSo glad that you are having a good trip with your girls! Glad that you found some joys and humor too. Thanks for sharing the webtoons. I hadn't seen those before, and they were really funny. Stay safe and have a wonderful time in DC.
ReplyDeleteSo sad about Ukraine. My husband works with a team from there, and the stories are heartbreaking but amazing too.
It's Ben pretty mellow here over all. Best wishes to your husband's colleagues and their family and friends from their home. It brings it closer to know people directly.
DeleteI'll wait until you get home to mail it. 8-))
ReplyDeleteIt'll be Christmas in March.
DeleteNo margarita's to go with the Salsa, chips and quac??
ReplyDeleteThe girls were feeling this house punch drink with Vodka and it was tasty. I really was feeling a Corona with lime.
DeleteI hope your trip continues to be wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Anne. Mix of fun, exploration, and learning.
DeleteI am so happy you are having a good time. A mother daughter trip is the best. We girls had some great trips with mom before she got sick and we still laugh about them.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a crazy time with your sis's. Anytime I look back and laugh again, I know those were the good times.
DeleteI just took a look at those webtoons - very clever. I'm a great fan of Gary Larsen as whacky humour is right up my street!
