Last month my daughter and I bought a massive bag of basmati rice. It came to $1 per pound and cooks up fluffy and perfect every time. I do keep just regular long grain in hand, but I prefer basmati. I've been trying to think of good ways to use it frequently but not bore DH. I love rice so having almost daily as just a side wouldn't bother me a bit. Here's my shirt list, but would love help with ideas and recipe links.
- Chicken, rice, broccoli and cheese hotdish
- Rice with Mexican inspired flavors for tacos and burritos
- Rice crust quiche
- Hamburger rice hotdish
- Chow Mein
- Curry with rice (though DH doesn't like it)
- Dirty rice, beans, and sausage
- Fried rice and vegetables
I like basmati also. I love a good cajun dirty rice.
ReplyDeleteIt's so tasty with some really spicy sausage discs.
DeleteBasmati is the only rice I will eat. It is THE best!
ReplyDeleteYou could add rice, veggie (meat optional) cheese burritos or Quesada's. I've also made this recipe and it is delish.

Now I'd like the curry flavor but DH says no. Basmati just cooks so fluffy and perfect.
DeleteI just did a quick search recipes with rice and first thing shown was 50 rice recipes. I’m not a big fan- I’ve always preferred potatoes and I don’t think as a kid we ever had rice. I’m making a chicken broccoli soup this morning- I got 2 heads of broccoli in the farm delivery and need to use them up. It smells good. Nan
ReplyDeleteWe had in hot dishes and chow mein in the rare occasion my mom bought a can of La Choy.
DeleteThis is not a suggestion for your menu. Just wondering, do you like or ever make rice pudding?
ReplyDeleteNot a huge fan of it. My sister makes a Norwegian glorified rice with a merangue for Christmas and I have a small bite.
Deletecabbage rolls (or the "lazy" rendition), add to soups
ReplyDeleteI'll need to look at cabbage rolls.
DeleteCabbage rolls or stuffed peppers? I haven't made stuffed peppers for a long time, but when I did, I prefer the red/orange/yellow peppers vs the green peppers. I've only made cabbage rolls once but I did look online and there are lots of interesting recipes now, that I didn't have when I tried making them. (mine were just okay, probably why I haven't made any again) I know there are certain rices to be used for certain recipes but you could make Korean rice bowls. I know you have done this in the past. I generally use the type of rice I prefer whether it be Jasmine or Basmati. Ranee
ReplyDeleteI love stuffed peppers, all kinds. Yes, I do bowl type meals a lot.
DeleteIf you search through these recipes for the rice ones, we've tried & enjoyed most of them. https://www.the-girl-who-ate-everything.com/category/one-pan/
ReplyDeleteWe love the Mexican chicken one and curry versions in particular.
Thank you for link. We've a lot of rice to use.
DeleteGreek Avgolemono (Lemon soup) uses rice.
ReplyDeleteWould Basmati rice work in a risotto?
ReplyDeleteGoogle again and yes, I saw several versions that used basmati.
DeleteI also love rice. But I have a huge bag of risotto. Have you ever cooked that? I need to learn how.
ReplyDeleteIs the arborio rice? I've only made risotto with long grain.
DeleteWe love rice too!
ReplyDeletePorcupine meatballs...red beans and rice...jambalaya...gumbo...
We really like this Japanese Gyudon Beef Bowl https://thejapantry.com/gyudon-japanese-beef-bowl/
This was my first time cooking with dashi and sake, but it was really good. :)
I've never gotten porcupine meatballs right. The rice never fully cooks. What's your secret?
DeletePerhaps try soaking the rice a bit...I haven't tried her vegan version, but it might be good too.

Put it in burritos, we also do a salsa rice just adding salsa with our leftover rice. Hubby likes fried rice and salsa rice and that is about it but he eats what is put in front of him due to the rule of if you complain you fix the next weeks meals LOL
