Positively Tuesday Happy Mom

A week of snow, a week of airport runs, lots of food, and family. I'm stressed about work, but happy to have a little time away from the "office" to enjoy my family. Joys outweigh the stress for now so here we go.

Tuesday: The walloping snow storm cancelled lots of flights, including DS's connection from Phoenix. I'm grateful he got a motel room for the night and was safe considering a plane did skid off the runway.

Wednesday: Nature's bounty of snow. I was happy for the plow driver removing the big pile left from previous swipes. DS got a new flight and arrived very late, but on time.

Thursday: DH had the day off. I worked until 12:00 then we took DS out for lunch at one of the other Bar and Grills outside of town. DD1 joined us that night and she and her brother got caught up.

Friday: DD1and DS shopped for me, which made my day! We had a relaxing day with each other, and made dinner. DD1 came with me to airport and we had a smooth pick up of the college kid. She was beat, but happy to be home.

Saturday: Another just family day. DD1 made delicious blueberry muffins for us, and we had loads of coffee with them to start the day. DD2 met friends for a bachelorette party- cute warm hats for the participants as it included a sledding party. She ended up coming home so she could get good sleep- a wise decision.

These were the hats they had for sledding.
Sunday: We had a jam packed day! We celebrated Christmas with gifts and an early Turkey dinner with the trimmings. We enjoyed a MN Vikings win against the Chicago Bears and extended family time. The day ended with always fun, a Green Bay Packer loss, keeping them out of the playoffs. I'm mean that way. We get to gloat so rarely in our border rivalry. DS made me laugh by jumping up from the couch saying he needed to go "talk some shit" to his old college friends. He went to school in Milwaukee so the bulk of his friends are die hard Packer fans, with one from Chicago, so a Bears fan.

Monday: I took the travellers, met by DD1 on her lunch break to an all you can eat Sushi place. Now I don't eat sushi but the other options to order in small plates were delicious. I didn't even care about the price. We'll eat more beans and rice and be happy as the month goes on!  I ended up working a bit, but am so relieved part one of the project launch has happened.  It was slightly warmer so we had walks outside, plus some chatting while playing on the Play Station. I don't begrudge my young exhausted kids this mental break. I guess an unexpected simple pleasure was both reading the ice rinks and warming houses are finally opening today, and seeing someone made an ice rink with a long path on the pond at the end of our park. Skating is a Minnesota winter pleasure.

This is my last full day with my kids home. Tomorrow, DD2 heads back late morning and DS has a mid afternoon flight. They're taking their grandma out and visiting with her. DS is meeting a cousin for Happy Hour and the three kids are doing something together tonight. I'm not doing any cooking- we'll beyond curry as I promised for meals to take back. How about your week? What joys and simple pleasures did you have?

  1. Two of my cousins and both of my sisters all gathered at my house for the weekend (my older sister's husband died after Thanksgiving and this was a "try to cheer her up" get-together). Lots of food and lots of laughs. I'm very proud of my sister - she is keeping busy while also grieving her loss.

Yesterday I got all the sheets washed and beds remade, took my Christmas tree out on the street for pickup, un-decorated both mantels, and put away all of the "hanging Christmas stuff". I dismantled my large Snow Village collection and got each house back into its box. Just have to put the boxes into crates and get them back into the attic and I'll be done!

So happy you had all of your kids home!

    1. We all need our support systems to laugh even when things are so sad. It feels good to reset after the holidays, though reading about your village makes me a tad jealous that I left mine packed up this year.

  2. Love all of this. Those hats are super cute - what a great idea!

Let's see, some simple pleasures at our house: we all have a long weekend ahead, seeing the boys really get along & spend time together on our ski trip (despite Nick wanting to go down the hardest runs - always), lots of family time & laughter, & getting a chance to catch up before the work week started again.

    1. I guess they're an Etsy find, probably catered to the ski trip bachelorette trips, but this was local and low key. I'm glad your Trip was terrific.

  3. That sounds like such a happy, fun, heartwarming time with your kids and family and I couldn’t be happier for you. Truly. I know you’ve been waiting a long time for this. I’m soaking up the last few days with DD as well and staying pretty close to home. The past seven days hasn’t been good or bad, just another January week of planning, cleaning and enjoying the little things. JoAnn

    1. We've done nothing exciting - just good to be together. The next year will be so full of change, but felt a bit like their childhood's. We'll see our daughter in about 8 weeks for her spring break. She's got no money to travel now, so will be home. DS hopes to come in the summer. Enjoy her last few days of her break.

    1. A week of budget busting won't detail our plans. It was just fun hanging out and laughing.

  7. You can scrape the cupboards and freezer bare to eat this month to offset the costs of eating with all three of your kids home at one time! I hope you got lots of pictures. When I lived in Owensboro, Ky, I was shocked to go out and people were ice skating everywhere instead of walking. People flooded their patios to make ice rinks. This Southerner had never seen such a thing.

    1. It won't come to that, but the sentiment is there. We don't flood patios, but there's lots of ponds that get shoveled.
