New Horizons

I never got my weekend away planned. It is a good thing because I get to make a three hour trek eastward to central Wisconsin to help DD#1 find an apartment. She landed a job! While not exactly her dream of becoming an independent film maker, she will be working with camera in hand, along with editing, sound, and social media for a huge international company. The job involves a lot of travel, something she is familiar with  from her grad school experience and her documentary tour. I am so proud of her for not giving up hope, plugging at it, and allowing herself the time to really job search without being in a bad fit of a job while doing so. While she might mot have an apartment secured in time for her February 29 start, we priced a Super 8 in town that could be a stop gap. While it would eat 2/3rds of her take home, for one month, it is better than deferring the job start. She has a friend in the general area that is willing to let her stay temporarily until something opens up, though she would have a bit of a commute in doing so. She has options, and she has lived in worse situations than a budget motel.

DD#2 is sad though, she has loved having her big sister home. Of course I will miss her again, but I admit I will really miss the third driver for all the running and last minute car pooling. One of two adult kids in stable employment. DS is still cobbling together freelance job after freelance job with a car that is living on borrowed time. I'm hoping he gets a bite of something steady soon, and is looking in other fields as well.I can only let out a partial mom sigh of relief.

No office for me today due to the holiday, but I am logging hours. I've not done nearly as much as I should have with my data project, but my eyes are burning looking at minutia of numbers and plotting them on a master grid. The grid will be turned over to someone who will make charts and graphs and all kinds of clever looking infographs. I'll get up early and give it another hour, and then another couple hours at work should finish it up. I'm learning short comings in our reporting software. There shouldn't need to be as much manual manipulation as I am doing. My knee starting feeling a bit better as the day went on. I drank a lot of water this morning as dehydration seems to make my muscles get very sore. I forced myself to do my physical therapy exercises, and rewarded myself with a long hot shower, letting the water pound my sore knee. It is still hurting, but not the eye watering sharpness I went to bed and woke up with.

DD#1 and I hit the 50% off Goodwill sale after dropping DD#2 off. I found a pair of like new jeans, a must purchase after I had another unfortunate incident this weekend with a pair. Not bad though , $4.50 for Lee Riders, boot cut. I took her out for a celebratory latte at Dunn Brothers while we waited for the youngest to get done. She has much to sort out in two weeks, and we're crossing our fingers that there will be some options ready by months end. My day started out rough, but ended well. I can't predict what new thing will come over the horizon, but every now and then I get those days that turn out better than expected.

  1. Congratulations to your daughter - I'm sure it is a great start of her career, sounds wonderful! I am the same way with dehydration, sore muscles as result - it must be pretty universal... I wonder whether you'll have time to write a story this month, with so many things happening. Changes are always challenging, even good ones. Have a nice trip! :)

  2. It's so fab isn't it when life starts to come together for our kids? It's what makes me feel happiest and the most contented. Sam go get some matcha and drink it consistently it will help your knee. I gave up my magazine buying to justify the expense lol. I can read magazines on line if I need a fix but the Matcha has now become a necessity for my health.

    1. I am happy for her. She is talented, and I knew someone would not overlook her skills. I have RA and get flare ups periodically-my left knee is particularly vulnerable. I'll look into matcha.

    1. She'll be quite a ways from Marshfield but thank you for the offer. She had a lead on one with immediate occupancy. Hopefully a couple more will bear out.

  4. Beautiful pic!!!
I think it is much harder for kids today to find jobs. When I got out of high school, it was easy to find a job paying a wage where you could support yourself. Your daughter is blessed to have such a wonderful mom. And you obviously did a great job with your kids.

    1. I agree, plus the cost of living was easier then. I put myself through college including housing and food, waiting tables weekends at a Pizza Hut. DS shares a place with two others and still $700 a month. I hope I supported them and not imposed my preferances. They both went a nontraditional path.

  5. Well done to your DD1.I know I breathed a sigh of relief when K got her teaching job and was settled. I'm just waiting to do the same for KL! I hope you manage to find something suitable and affordable on your trip eastwards.

    1. Three visits line up, all which are available for her to move in next weekend. You can't trust pictures though and one could be too good to be true as she could walk to work and there are certain amenities like washer and dryer in the unit that will save her money.
