A Few Good Buys and Good Sleep

Thanks for the kind words. I'm less sore today but still nursing a few bruises. No volleyball on the court but met the girls for 2 for 1 drinks and ladies night appetizers, though I stuck to a soda. I'd like to say I've developed will power to not spend anything, but what's the fun in always staying behind?

While DD2 was at her rescheduled pictures and practice, I popped into Target for eye make-up remover, Visine, and nickel free post earings. She let her pierced ears begin to close so needs a simple pair to wear to train her holes open again for her costumes. I'd have loved a Starbucks, but passed. I did not pass up a few clearanced bargains.

Big cans of Market Pantry pumpkin were only $1.14. I'll get a triple batch of pumpkin bread, or use with cake mix for a quick, inexpensive, and marginally healthier  desert bar. Cranberry jelly was $ .74, so nabbed one  for sliced turkey breast dinner. A few varieties of Cliff, Fiber One, and Kashi bars were 1/2 price and will restock my desk, and a winter blend coffee that will meet my caffeine fix, was $4.94. These purchases put me over my goal, but all practical buys.

I don't know if prescribed is the right word, but I'm still having insomnia, and months ago Melatonin was added to my vitamin and mineral list at my doctors visit. I finally gave it a try. I stayed asleep most of the night, but more time is needed for a verdict. The bottle had a clear message that it should be used under doctor knowledge, so must have some potency. If this helps, it could be a life changer as I've been lucky to get 2-3 hours sleep before I'm awake for hours, exhausted much of the time. Anyone else use Melatonin and what has been your experience?

  1. Glad you are doing better and neither your daughter nor you were too seriously hurt from the ice!
    In terms of your Target purchases, you may have "gone over" your budget but I think it will all even out for you in the end as you bought those items at rock bottom prices.
    Hope those bruises heal quickly! =)

  2. I can't comment on your prescription but I use Piriton to help me sleep. Basically I still wake up after a couple of hours but the Piriton keeps me dozy enough that I generally go back to sleep again before the demons start to march through my mind. Having said that - I sleep much better since I gave up the 5-45 alarm clock. Jx

    1. Stress is a sleep killer, isn't it.I have good hopes for this and maybe to help my winter moodiness as well.

  3. I have insomnia, part of my fibromyalgia. I only usually get 2-3 hours except about once a week when I am so exhausted I get about 6. Never tried melatonin. I use over the counter sleep pills and then if it gets really bad I have a prescription for 1/2 a sleeping pill that I only use about 1 every 2-3 weeks. It sucks but I have had it since 16. Working for ourselves allows me to rest more, if I feel sick/tired I stay in bed and work when I feel better. Try the melatonin a few times, perhaps it is just the ticket

    1. My body just doesn't respond to sleeping tablets. I feel drugged up, not sleepy. Benadryl makes me tired but it's a whole different purpose so seems wrong to use for sleep. I'm hooeful on melatonin.

  4. I have used melatonin at my doctor's suggestion back when I was teaching. I had the bad habit (NOT my fault!!) of waking up at 4am and not being able to get back to sleep. I found that it helped but you do need to use it for awhile - it's not an on and off type of product. I tried to get my daughter to use it when she was bartending as her sleeping times would vary but she'd forget to use it every day. Insomnia SUCKS!

  5. I have used Melatonin for about 20 years. I buy 1 mg and take two pills. I love it. My brain won't turn off otherwise unless it is sheer exhaustion, but I don't like to get to that point. Use good sleep hygiene with the melatonin. I, too, have fibromyalgia.

  6. Glad to hear you're less sore today. Our winter has been very mild, so I've not taken enough care on the few occasions it had been icy- no damage done thankfully.

  7. My husband and son use Melatonin with success! My son could play on a computer game into the night and suddenly realize it's 4am without looking at a close until then. But Melatonin makes him sleepy after about 30 minutes to an hour and he knows that's a good time to go to bed.
    I have NO trouble getting to sleep... and haven't had insomnia in quite a while. I'm sorry you're going through that now!

  8. Glad you are not feeling as "touchy" today. I hope the melatonin is the answer to your sleep issues. My trouble sleeping is that my bladder wakes me. I am not awake any longer than is required to take care of the necessities, but it is still interrupted sleep and it does suck

    1. I have that too, but if I stay asleep, I can at least get 6 hours before having to get up at least be able to call back to sleep.

  9. I'm sorry to read that you fell, but glad that you are feeling better. I had terrible insomnia when the vitamin deficiencies were at their worst. I find that it comes back when my B12 injection is due; I've had several wakeful nights in the last week or so and my injection is due early February.

    1. Despite the added vitamins and minerals, I haven't really perked up. This is a hopeful attempt. I hate being tired. Good luck waiting these weeks.
