Feeling Good Friday-Refresh

I'm hitting the reset button on my first 20 pound weight loss goal, counting progress made officially at 14 pounds. While not the success I wanted, I'm feeling a bit healthier, my clothes, the tight ones, fit again, and I felt mildly confident in my new dress (with the help of some spanx.) I'm daring myself to pick up this first milestone goal, and get to that 20 pound marker by September 1, four weeks from now. Weddings are done for the year; I have no travel for work to throw off healthy eating; we've got weekends scheduled for just combinations of home focus and R&R with my family and friends. Overall, I still want this weight loss to be the start to getting my BMI back in the normal range, which means a cumulative 58 pound weight loss.Technically, even though I don't feel so, my number has me in the obese range. Even 20 pounds doesn't quite get me out of it, but it is a mindset motivator.

I also want to refresh my mental health. I can't hide that my recent job change has helped recharge my mental energy at work. I feel like parts of my brain that were shut off for the last two and 1/2 years have been turned back on. Downsizing a career is a good thing when you have reached a breaking point, but for someone like me who was so used to having my mind on overload, I underestimated what I would need to feel satisfied. Still, it could be easy to let myself pick up those bad habits of working late, taking work home, and being"on" 24-7. Maintaining a healthy balance will be essential.

The last leg of the stool for my feeling good (we'll leave organization, money, and travel off to the side),is continuing to cultivate a positive social and relationship circle. DH and I seriously need to keep having time to just talk, hang out together, and not let our jobs, extended family, and the juggling balls over take just being a couple. We both need quality time with our family, and limited time-or not toxic time at least, with extended family. We need to continue to nourish friendships, old and new.

That's my end of summer, count down to a September refresh. I appreciate the encouraging words the last three months as I've bored my readers on my weight loss challenge. I hope to keep these kind of posts to just my Friday updates. What are you focusing on in August? Let's make the most of this last month of summer.

  1. Keep up the good work!
Loosing weight is an important goal as it affects our health and self-esteem. I've done that, so I know. It's not easy,it's a whole science including: calorie count, weighing yourself daily, sleeping the 7-8 hours, walking, etc.. The reward is great.

    1. I had a great night of sleep, thanks to the naturally cooler weather-no air conditioning needed. I will keep at it, and appreciate the positive encouragement.

  2. Think like a Brit! Fourteen pounds is one stone. Losing a whole stone is a real milestone.

    1. Love it! My new motto-Think Like a Brit! When you put it that way, I feel very successful. Cheers to a 2 Stone weight loss to report in a few months.

  3. I'm focused on my fitness, which got all out of whack in July. I was on a great role in June, and really noticed a huge difference in my energy level, even though I lost no weight. I'm going back to it. I also need to spend time in my house, with all of our life prep tasks. Looking forward to a more relaxing August, with one exception - my family relay. School starts, so that will be a bit of chaos as we figure out a new schedule for middle school + elementary school. Fingers crossed for you as well! Fitness is hard, but a worthy endeavor.

    1. Your posts did have a good energy about them in June-I want to tap into that, so we can encourage each other in August. I do need to lose weight-lots of it as it is just too hard on my smallish frame. Getting stronger though is just as important to me. My daughter officially is at 75 pound total weight loss, not wanting or needing to lose more, but still working on toning and just overall health. She has been my role model, mentor, and top cheer leader Other than that she has broader shoulders, from her dad's side of the family, I never realized how small her frame is as well.

  4. Great job!!! I'm down, since the engagement, 23 pounds. At the wedding, I was at 22 pounds. Gained 5 back and now am back down to the 23 pound mark. I have another 5.8 to go before I set my goal to another 20 pounds. And even THEN I'll still be in the obese range, but yep, who DECIDES that?! I should probably start doing tummy crunches, but yuck.
    Good luck!!!

    1. Perhaps we should both ignore those BMI charts and just focus on feeling and looking better for ourselves.I hear you on the tummy crunches-but I'll add my thighs, and my arms. I want to do something about my arms also for strength-I just feel weak sometimes, and that is worse than feeling flabby. I work with a larger woman who probably shows as obese on the chart, but she is vivacious and strong, and leads a very healthy lifestyle. You looked gorgeous in the wedding pictures-lets get healthier, and if being slimmer is part of the end result, great, but important that we all just feel good about ourselves.

  5. Any amount of weight loss is a victory and it is funny what the first bit makes you realize, that you simply want to lose more! I know that feeling when clothes feel different, a happy one! I had such a good time at the DMV yesterday renewing my license. Telling them I weight 9 pounds less than five years ago when it last renewed :)

    1. My daughter just said the same thing about getting her new drivers license! Since I lied about my weight, another 18 pounds and I'll be at my drivers licenses weight. I now-bad me.

    1. Thank you Wendy. I love the British terms and saying I lost a stone, sure sounds more impressive than 14 pounds. BTW, your hair is growing into a stunning color! I will be staying true to my bottle for a while, but if I could know it would look like yours, I might let it go natural.
