December Peace-Planning in November

Yes, I typed December, and yes, I typed calm. Just like yesterday, I' reminded how I seemed to do things wiser saner, in my younger wife and parenting days. Other than food prep and perhaps present wrapping, I was usually done with all Christmas prep before the first chocolate was eaten on the advent calendar. Since winter has decided to come early, with really cold temperatures and dusting of snow, I don't feel like I am rushing fall. November has never been my favorite month weather wise due to the overall dullness from lack of color, lack of sunlight, and schizophrenic temperatures. In recent years, November is month of melancholy. Longer time readers may recall both my mom and sisters birthdays and the anniversaries of their deaths are in November. Not that I want to wish time away, I do like the idea of engaging my mind and body into tasks and planning that will make December all the more a month of peace and joy. Also, I can give November a more positive spin and make it a month of productivity and creativity.

It is already November 12th, so closing in on the halfway point. Yet, I have two weekends left, plus I intend to commission December 2nd and 3rd into my organizing as well. This is a Monday-Sunday plan and only a start. I'll add more tasks as I think of them. If I achieve only 80% success, I will be in far better spirits heading into the merry month of December.  Last year I lost much of November and all of the weekend following Thanksgiving due to my own health issues. Knock on wood that all family members stay healthy or get healthy again, myself included.

    1. I find being organized on paper is never a problem. The execution part is what trips me up!

  2. I'm also trying to get the majority of my holiday stuff sorted. Mostly because I have a long work trip in December, and when I come back, I'm always super jet lagged. Combine that with work craziness as we get closer to the end of the year, and it's best just to get as much done now as possible.

I like your plan - good luck!

    1. I am fortunate that our last two weeks of the year are pretty mellow because most of our stakeholders are closed or minimal hours. Our craziness is June-September as school years wrap up, fiscal year ends, then school year starts ramping up again. I have had one or two business trips over the years in December, none out of the country, but even those through wrenches in the prep. good luck to you sorting your to do out.
