Two Bits of Official News

I'm officially promoted as of today. I had an interview last week and then received my official promotion letter, effective today-no longer interim. I have to take within the next 9 months, a 48 hour training course, spread over six days in three day chunks. It feels reassuring to no longer be in a limbo position. My team seemed happy for me, even the one with difficulty with the transition. She herself got a promotion out of the changes in our division and restructure of our team, so I think that helped. Her modified position will fit her strengths better.

My son confirmed his flights for Christmas week. Airfare is insane this year-no deals to be had, but  we're helping with the costs. He arrives very late on December 23rd and flies back to LA a week later. The project he is currently working on runs right up until then, which is great, but pretty much his industry shuts down the week or two around Christmas.Too many lavish parties for the Hollywood elite to attend. Just in case, he has travel insurance as he wouldn't want to miss a great opportunity should something come up. I know I can't expect to have my kids home at holidays, but this year, I'm excited that his trip is officially booked. DD1 also has PTO confirmed for that same week, and plans to be home for a few extra days.

Both my brother and sister are doing well, both needing to make changes long term to help their prognosis. After the recent bad health news, I feel grateful for positive news this week.

  1. Congrats on your job becoming "official"! You definitely needed some good news in your life! =)
I think it's wonderful that your kids will all be together for Christmas! I am at that stage in parenting where the family all being together is no longer a given and I am struggling with it. My oldest daughter wants to spend Thanksgiving with her boyfriend's family here in Connecticut BUT then wants to spend Christmas with her boyfriend's family in Vermont too! I'm trying to not be too sad and wait to see if it plays out....

    1. We had three years in a row where my son could not make it as he worked on Christmas eve and day, then had just moved to Florida, then to CA. Two of those years no older daughter either as she was in the UK and then also just moved to CA, so I take it now as a gift. I struggled too at first but realize once there are additional people, we'll be even more fortunate when it happens, so not going to get sad when it doesn't. Who knows where we'll be at Christmas in the future and just hope wherever each of us are, we are with people that we love and love us, and if we get a chance to talk or skpe, all the better.

  2. Our daughter flies home from Japan each Christmas and we are so grateful. She's an only child and it just wouldn't be Christmas without her.
Congratulations on your promotion, I'm sure it's well deserved.

    1. I feel fortunate to have landed in a place where I like my job, I feel challenged, and I am fairly compensated. Last spring i was feeling quite down about my career-feeling like I made some bad choices. Life does move on, and things can change, and decisions by someone else can have positive repercussions.

  5. Congrats! I hope a pay raise was there for you too, not just additional work lol. My stepson booked late too, usually I have them book in August for December but he started a new job and couldn't determine what days he got off at Christmas if any. He is only coming for 3 days but we are so happy he can come.

    1. Fortunately, I had received the compensatory increase when I was in the interim position, but no additional raise right now. Considering it was about 5% more than I was expecting, I won't raise the issue now.
