Being Right and Being Fair

Warning to readers that this post includes a political rant. Remember my guide on commenting!

I have a work situation going on right now that is exactly the reason I did not mind leaving all supervisory duties behind when I left my last job. This is an employee versus HR issue that I've gotten pulled into with he said-she said case evidence. I don't like pulling rank on people, but this has gotten to the point where I am stepping over the consultant and will work directly with the HR director to determine what is the correct and fair outcome of the situation. I was planning on working from home and then going to a meeting on my side of the cities and saving some back and forth driving time and miles. Now, I need to be in the office by 8:00, leave at 11:00, come back at 1:30. I'm convinced that if people would just look at situation from both the side of right and fair-not either or, there would be a lot less drama in work places. Instead, I see too many people dig in their heals and insist something has to be done this way because it is right, holding onto a single word as concrete when there actually is flexibility and others, knowing it is right, only see it as a case of being unfair to them. Somewhere in the middle is both and the best outcome. I hope it is resolved today, because it is exhausting, unproductive, and I don't want to deal with either of the parties any longer!

Politics and the constitution and the world order are like this as well. I don't hide that I am socially left leaning. I also think though there is a lot of stupidity with public dollars. Somewhere if these morons that make the decisions could sit down and look at both the law, but also in the context of what is just and fair, they could make wiser decisions that end most of the partisan bull. If this country's current leader (in position only) would shut his mouth long enough to figure out the success of his office is not based on how many retweets he gets on Twitter or winning kindergarten playground battles of words, he might just try to figure out what the job is, and provide a framework for solutions. Nope-it's more important to be louder and more verbally insulting to anyone that dares disagree with him or call him out.

No one really believes a wall is going to do diddly squat to prevent illegal immigration-he doesn't even believe it, but because it was in his campaign rhetoric, he must keep spewing. Does the nation need to figure out how to improve the immigration process and curb illegal immigration? Absolutely. Working to reduce or safeguard illegal immigration is right. However, it can't be denied that we have an aging work force with fewer younger workers available to step in and an agriculture industry that in many parts of the country rely on immigrant labor. We also taught ourselves that we are a nation built on immigrants, a cultural melting pot where our success is built upon maximizing the diversity of talent. The US has also put ourselves as the world leader in human rights, so denying that we have a moral obligation to engage in fixing the refugee crisis in unconscionable. Doing immigration reform in ways that support the workforce needs, human rights efforts, and provides clear, and legal paths for all to obtain the American dream is  fair. My ancestors had this-some of who came from s-hole counties of the time. I have to believe there are smart people somewhere in the congressional ranks that understand the constitution and what is right, but can interpret and propose fair and just application. Would they please step forward? .

  2. I don't feel like we have leadership, just a very hungry ego in office.

  3. Preach it sister! I heard the same crap about Brexit. Sure, we don't need any more leeches on society but the overwhelming majority of immigrants to the UK are hard working. Crikey, the agricultural sector and hotel sector would grind to a halt without the eastern Europeans. But of course the gutter press just like your tweeter in chief only go in for rabble-rousing. I'm British and didn't even get to vote on Brexit. There are approx. 1 million Brits living in the EU that were denied the vote - and the Brexit vote was "lost" by - you guessed it - approximately 1 million votes. Now I live in France so am DIRECTLY affected by that vote. In fact I was talking to a friend in the UK this weekend and he and his brother (Polish father believe it or not) voted OUT. But then the brother and his wife are talking about emigrating to Spain soon. Good luck with that fellas. "Kick em out" works both ways. And you are absolutely right, common sense and an end to rabble-rousing would go such a long way. Sorry for the rant. Anna

    1. Facebook and Twitter are blowing up about his own wife who let her visa expire, and then her parents got to the US through chain migration. of course all his defenders are saying it is different, but can't really say how.

  4. Why are they not stepping forward? Why? I ask myself this question every single day.

    1. We have a crisis of leadership at all levels of government these days. to afraid to piss off who they think are the wrong people to piss off, so they wait and follow the party line, or create back room deals that save face but don't really help resolve anything.

  5. I have only been following your blog for a few weeks and I wanted to thank you for this post. If SOMEONE would step up.... but it surely isn't happening. And having a fake president certainly doesn't help. I can barely watch the news any longer. And that makes me angry and sad. My BP has been going up since Jan of last year. It appears he is made of teflon and NOTHING sticks to him. I don't get it.

On another note, we were Show Choir parents for both of our kids when they went through school. My husband is a (semi) retired music teacher and still emcees our local HS SC competition every year. It is so much fun! My kids are older and out of college, but they still have many friends from SC yearsso many years ago. Enjoy each day, as the time goes by SO quickly!!

    1. If I focused on only politics, I'd be angry all the time. I am so shocked at what I see people I used to think were decent human beings say to defend this egotistical sociopath. Teflon-great analogy. I think he would have people leap to his defense no matter what he does. I know I harp on about my daughters choirs, but they bring me so much joy, and it is so needed right now.

  6. Honestly, I don't know what it's going to take to get DT out of the whitehouse. Believe me when I say that your northern neighbour is just as concerned as you are. He's not going to change so some good men and women need to step us but it's not happening. There will need to be some major crisis to bring about change I'm afraid. Perhaps the stock market is an indication of where the crisis might arise.

    1. I'm holding on until the November 18 elections and hoping at least the senate and house might change, leaving him truly without support. He hasn't exactly had a great track record supposedly with his party in control of both houses.
