7 Reasons Why I Blog

Sometimes I waste too much time in front of a computer screen, letting cyber space become my social life. Granted, I watch virtually no traditional television any more, but I think I've swapped that mindless viewing with a different time suck. Still, I find an outlet in blogging that just journaling or keeping a personal diary doesn't provide. So here are the main reasons I've been blogging, nearing the four year mark.

  1. As I already said, it gives me a forum for dumping the mind clutter in my head. Spilling words out through the keyboard often lets me move on to something else.
  2. I love getting feedback, ideas, and different views on how I see the world. I like learning my ways aren't so strange, and when they are, I can potentially see a new way that might work better.
  3. I've met some really great cyber friends, people I would like to know in real life. How small the world seems through a key board and monitor.
  4. I have a record of events and memories I want to hold onto beyond my fleeting memory.
  5. I get a chance to problem solve or think through options with a whole host of folks with similar experiences, or with a totally different perspective.
  6. Blogging gives me an opportunity to learn or improve my skills in writing, research, and photography. Well, I'm trying anyway.
  7. I can keep telling myself, I am a writer. Some days what I write might resonate with someone else, and I get a sense of satisfaction from that.

If you have a blog, please comment with a reason or two with why you write and publish. Add  your  blog site as well so we can keep building this community. Thanks for reading.

  3. I am like you and would like to know most of the bloggers I read IRL (though I will admit to reading one blog with morbid fascination, because of the train wrecks that happen nearly every day)
Like you I met Sluggy and was delighted to get to know her a little better. I keep telling my sister I am going to trick out a panel van and the two of us are going to do a blog tour. Would be fascinating since I have no skill set or any idea how to trick one out, and have never traveled in any sort of camper situation.

    1. Hopefully that blogger finds her writing a bit of therepy and helps manage the wrecks. I often dump my issues to you all! Some day Anne, we will all meet in a great fun weekend-with no computers.

  4. Sam, That's a great list and I agree with it all. One thing I would recommend with regard to #4 is adding two step verification to your blog login. One of my longtime fellow bloggers just had her Wordpress blog hacked. Everything is gone. I would be just heartbroken if I lost everything. I just checked my profile and this is my anniversary month. I've been blogging for 8 years. I can hardly believe it.

  5. In my family (brothers and sisters) most are married to only children, except me - my ex had 2 siblings but doesn't get on with them. We are close although spread out all over, so when we get together we have such a laugh, telling old stories and such and my kids LOVE all that, so I started blogging to write down the old memories that they can enjoy at some time. And of course document the new memories we are making. I also have an idea for a post I want to write on poverty tomorrow (if I get the chance) and writing it down and hearing other people's comments/opinions is interesting to me. It allows me to clarify my thoughts (and brain dump too). Anna

    1. Accountabiity-that's a good one. I'll make that number 8.

  8. I consider blogging my art - the same way as dressing up is my art. It's purely creative joy to put together the words, the flow of photographs, and the details of my outfits... everything else is true too about blogging to me - improving writing skills (English language as well), meeting wonderful people online, and documenting my life, in some way. But without that creative/artistic element, I know I would not blog. <3
