End of Day Blogging-Not in My Rhythm

I have just not found the time the last couple mornings to write up even a quick blog post. I am finding myself in the winter slump-craving more sleep in the morning. I've been leaving the house later than I intend as well. I must snap out of these habits as writing a little something grounds me for the day. I've also neglected morning stretches, let alone Yoga. This blog is more of a motivational pep talk to myself than a real update on anything.

I guess I have a little news. DD2 didn't get selected for the variety show with either duet partner. She was OK with it, though had wanted for the guys more so than herself. I'm bummed as I would have liked to hear her in a duet-outside of my family room. Supper tonight is the rest of some chicken patties, mashed potatoes, and corn-no judging but the spuds are instant. We need to set hair tonight, she needs to sort out all she needs for a quick rise and get away because we are both due at the school at 5:15 a.m. for a two hour bus ride. I would love to be sound asleep by 9:00 and get a good seven hours sleep. I was ecstatic to learn we get coach, not school buses. The chaperone  fairy god mothers were with me.

I feel woefully behind in reading my regular blogs, and visiting new ones via comments and links from my bloggy friends. I won't bring a computer along, but I hope to maybe read some more via my phone during the down times. Well, that's my timer. Time to microwave some veggies. Have a great weekend.

  1. Have a great trip. I am sorry you daughter and partners were not selected. Such is the life of subjective auditions, since all of them are subjective, but here' s to the next one!!

    1. She was fine with not being selected, as all three were really. I think they had fun practicing together over the last few weeks, and isn't that more important.

  2. Have a good day SAM. Those Winter mornings are tough. I count myself lucky that I don’t have to be up and out of the door these days.

    1. My commute is in the dark both ways-it gets old. After my daughters birthday, tomorrow in fact, January and February just sort of linger. I need to step up and find some things to look forward to. Show choir morning helps with that and my older daughter is motivating me for more outside time, which should help.

  3. I've been busy too but it helps to have January pass! I have never liked the month and guess who had 2 kids in it??? Both were born in snowy states too- Illinois and Pennsylvania. Sorry about your daughter but as Anne said, subjective auditions. I can't carry a tune so always admire singers- I once heard Oprah say she would give 'anything' to be able to sing. My husband had a beautiful bass voice and shh don't tell, the kids all take after me. I am proud of myself- I stayed out of the grocery store yesterday and no plans this weekend either to shop. Sometimes I fear it's my recreation. Have a good weekend.

    1. It was still a pricey day, even with bringing some snacks. It is just hard being away for an entire day-literally-for me without spending.

  4. Hope all goes well with your early morning departure!

I have, blissfully, no plans outside of the house today. I need to get a ton done before I leave for Tokyo tomorrow. So, fingers crossed for a productive day!

    1. The day was good and we were up and out on time. The days for these competitions are long but not flying to Tokyo long. The kids did great, but again as the subjective nature of the art is, they placed third after coming off a first place finish last week. Really though, the kids and director were so happy with how they performed, no sad eyes anywhere. We actually missed the top two finishers because of prep timing, but parents that watched said both schools were so good!

  5. Darn, you hit a nerve with me. Don't EVER feel bad about the food you serve your family, particularly in a crunch time! Funny, I remember serving sirloin patties, instant mashed potatoes with gravy (gravy was nothing more than a can of beef broth heated and thickened with flour) and canned green beans, calling it generously "Salisbury steak." While I was cooking it, I commented to DH about how lame the selection was, but it was the best I could manage that day. A few moments later I made the dinner announcement. Eldest, who was about 9 at the time, came tearing down the stairs. When he got to the table he froze for a second, his eyes lit up and he said "Hey, we're never lucky enough to have this!" Just last night, my dinner effort consisted of a Costco rotisserie chicken set on the counter, with several packages of fancy cookies picked up from the bakery thrift shop on the way home from Costco. Tonight, the leftover is getting made into cottage pie. Again, it will be placed on the counter in serve yourself manner. Some days are like that. Honestly, I find this period after Christmas, before spring break the most difficult to get through. We have only had one full week of school, yet I am already counting days until our three day weekend in January, and I don't even do 1/4 what you do, nor do I have to battle ice and snow in the mornings! I do notice, however, that the days are getting noticeably longer, and that helps. The light really is returning!
Sorry about your daughter's audition. Happy for your coach bus though! Maybe you might be able to nap a bit.

    1. Oh, the coach buses-not. there was one coach and four school buses, and I was on a school bus. Fortunately, I plan for mishaps, DD2 had a nice blanket and I had my extra warm coat. Still, no rest in either direction. My lamenting on my meals was directed towards me as I am trying to cut the processed food out. I just put the update in about my daughter because I had written earlier in the week, but it was not one of life's disappointments by any means.

  6. That must be some variety show if your daughter did not get selected. Okay I am mad for her. Sniff....

    1. Nothing to be mad for. I bet there were a ton of duet auditions and the do try to have a wide variety of acts. It also is a chance for kids that might not normally perform, and she and her friends preform a lot in choir or in plays, to get a chance.
