Positively Tuesday-Because We Need Joy

Today's my mom's birthday, and 11and barely an hour since she died. She'd be 95 today. Our birthdays are just two days apart. My sister's birthday was earlier in the month. She'd have been 63, I think. Ages escape me after people leave. They're forever how we remember them. I hope families that had so much pain this week can remember their children, mom's, sister's, and brothers with some joy, but every year will bring the pain. I find in these tragic times it is even more important to find joy and simple pleasures, or just things to smile about.

  1. Daughter and I shopped for all our Thanksgiving needs in a pretty empty Aldi. It's nice to be able to get in and out with no stress.
  2. She and I watched a couple Thanksgiving Friends episodes. We have confirmed she is a Monica.
  3. Saturday was chilly, but there was some sun. Pup really enjoyed his walk. No ducks, perhaps gone now as there was a sheet of thin ice across the pond.
  4. There was also a football game and a basketball game going in in the park while we were walking. I love seeing pick-up games, kids using the park, and kids together of all ages as what make up communities. It reminds me of both my kids and my childhood.
  5. DH and I went out for pizza at a local place. Pizza was terrific, server was a sweet heart, mostly empty restaurant, but they were busy with take out and delivery.
  6. Gophers and Vikings both won this weekend in exciting games. I pulled out frozen oatmeal-peanut butter- chocolate chip cookie dough for a game treat for DH, my daughter, and myself.
  7. My nephew's football team will be in state tournament finals. He's just on team this year as a senior, so really hasn't played. It was more his dad pushing him to be on it as conditioning for weight lifting season, but he seems to enjoy being part of a winning team.
  8. Got my sit- stand desk and ergonomic chair brought home. I still need to set things up better, but it should really help my posture at my desk.
  9. It was nice to see so many coworkers in the office together, many who never met each other in person before as they started virtually. It was also good to see how everyone pitched in to help each other. Moving offices is not for the faint of heart.
  10. I treated myself both yesterday and today to take out coffee. Is it that much better than making cat home? No, but I used real cream and that elevates my simple pleasure.
Truly a week of simple pleasures and joys. These are the basic things of life that keep me going when I could crumble in despair if I think too much. I hope you had joys and simple pleasures this week

    1. I'd like to say I can't imagine the evil that exists for something to happen to babies, but there's too many cases. This one just touches someone we love.

  3. Sending good thoughts to you, as you remember your family & look for the joys, despite the loss.

For us, it's been a really good week:
-Both kids made the school soccer team. It's competitive, and (worse) they try out against each other. Each round of cuts makes me anxious.
-The weather has been gorgeous. So, so beautiful
-I got in an early 6.5 mile walk today, thanks to no meetings day
-I was able to buy a bunch of very cheap toiletries, which I can donate. I love "deals" like that, because I know people who don't have much don't have time to chase deals, or go to numerous stores for things.
-Sam has been sharing some hilarious things about girls, & school & is cracking us up with his perception of relationships. He also asked for a hug before bed. That's my win of the week.

    1. I love reading about your boys. Congratulations to them both. I really enjoyed my walk tonight. It was milder.

  4. Coffee out of home/on the go has a bit of a treat- feel to it.
I am glad you gave yourself a cup.
