A perfect snowflake captured by Treeugger.com
My daily weather report. I promise I won't do this every day, but look at the final sentence.
Snow! Light snow AM tapers midday. Coating to 2".
High 23. Winter solstice at 9:59 am!
The return of daylight is nearly here. Does that make today the shortest day of the year or was that yesterday? It doesn't matter I guess, but I can now start anticipating that by the end of January, we might have an additional hour of light a day! Of course we don't feel all that gain because it is split morning and evening, but it sure helps. Even during my modified Blogmas, I've been trying to capture the positive things in my life on Tuesday's. It's the day of the week that seems to just drain my energy so starting with a list of at least 10 joys and simple pleasures sets my tone a little bit on the lighter side and in return the day seems less stressful In no particular order, here's my Positively Winter Solstice Tuesday list.
- My kid got home safe and sound on Friday later afternoon. My older daughter came over too as they were going to a movie a few hours later.
- Did I mention that pup was not feeling well last Thursday and Friday? Thursday night he was lethargic and favoring his back right leg. Then Friday he laid around all day. I guess he needed his girls. He let DD1 take him outside and for his walk and perked up when the college kid got home. He seems like he is back to himself, but he had me very worried.
- I got a nice text from my sister regarding the Christmas card I sent her on behalf of her cat. I though tit was funny and her cat is her lifeline, particuallry after her husband passed away very unexpectedly last March from a heart attack. I knew she would get a kick of it, and was pleased to get her message.
- Saturday was super productive in that I got all the middles for my truffles made, and two other treats. I loaded a plate last ight for DD2 to take over to her besties, and her mom who is one of the "mom's" I spend time with.
- Other than a couple items, DD1 and I got all we need for our food contributions to the weekend festivities on Sunday, and still were home early afternoon. She helped me dip all the chocolates.
- While I would have preferred a local coffee house, I was able to efficiently send e-coffee card to my team. Last year I had planned to take them to lunch as I had previous years, but defer to January. Well, work from home blew right past January and now it will be April likely before people are in the office. That has to do with the new space as well as Covid.
- Speaking of the new space, we saw both rendering of the remodel and short video to see the new location. It just happens to be about a block and 1/2 form one of my favorite independent coffee places, and another 4 blocks from two brewery's, (different directions) both of which have "festivities". When we eventually have time in the office, these will be nice after work or morning gathering spots to connect with each other outside of a video screen.
- We splurged on pricey, but delicious pizza last night for the game. We used a gift card I had bid on back in October at a silent auction, but DH left a big tip anyway when he went to pick it up. Bonus-leftovers for today!
- DD2 got an appointment tonight for a Covid booster. Hopefully she'll be fine, but if she needs to lay low, she's got nowhere she has to be tomorrow and nothing she has to do. As we'll be going to a nearby town that has a couple stores we do not, I can complete the last little bits of my shopping so I'll tag along with her.
- And not but not least-I am off at 5:30 until Monday! Five days off in a row, and then only a two day work week, as I'm taking Tuesday and Wednesday off next week, and Friday is our alternative January 1 holiday.
What a beautiful picture of a snowflake. Thanks for sharing it. Arilx
ReplyDeleteI can take no credit but it is pretty.
DeleteThat was so sweet of you to send a card to your sister on behalf of her cat. Yes, today is the shortest day of the year. It’s already been colder than usual for this time of year here. Is it too early to say I am ready for warm weather? 😂
ReplyDeleteI never heard of pet cards but it was very fitting her and the cat was her cats colors.
DeleteI do the same thing when it's winter solstice - now every day gets a little lighter earlier and longer :)
ReplyDeleteIt helps my mental health in January to know we are gainign light.
DeleteI am ready for longer days! The sun is out today and that is helping my mood after it has been raining and dreary for the last few days. Enjoy your time off! I am off for the next 2 weeks for break while the kids are off and the last 2 days I have been a sloth, but I am trying to rest as well and not stress either so it is okay with me!
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting the concerts-what a treat! It's really not worth it to stress over the perfect holiday, and just decide whatever the days bring, will be considered perfect if it is what we need.
DeleteI am so happy about the solstice you have no idea! I love that you ordered pizza in the middle of baking, you are so much like me, (that might be an insult) I think it is the Scandinavian heritage.
ReplyDeleteNot an insult at all! I had decided early I was treating us to real take out-not even take and bake.
DeleteIt was 82F in Miami when I was there on Dec.13th. Hasn't even hit 50 here, even with a fluke couple of "warm" days. I vote we all spend the Winter in the Caribbean.... I know a nice park bench in the US Virgin Islands we can camp out on for the duration. 8-)
ReplyDeleteslugmama,
DeleteI could handle that!
I really do not feel the need for cold white Christmas any more. That can happen in a Hallmark movie-give me that beach.
DeleteI'm happy to see the shortest day and grateful I don't live in the far north where they won't see the sun for awhile yet.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit weather often factors into my blog posts. Today is sunny but very cold. I appreciate the sun - it makes the cold more tolerable.
Enjoy your time off. I remember how happy those breaks from work were appreciated.
It will be a while before I feel like the days are getting longer, but knowing it will happen, helps me. The two minutes extra per day is a start.
DeleteThanks for showing my wreath picture again! Sadly we never got around to making fresh ones this year but I did hang my artificial wreath that I made. My biggest joy is that Baby James was discharged from the hospital yesterday. My husband surprised me with Penguins tickets last friday, an early Christmas gift. I’m very happy that I only have two more work days before Christmas. The amount of people that come in this close to Christmas and are mad that we don’t have matching pjs for their seven kids left is staggering, but amusing. I’m very much ready for a few extra minutes of daylight. Glad to be over the hump! JoAnn
ReplyDeleteI saw it in my pictures and thought I needed to show off your skills again. I just buy a Boy Scout wreath! People really are stupid. Order the damn matching PJ's in October, or better yet, JUST STOP with trying to be some family you decide on a whim you want to be in a picture.
DeleteI like hearing the weather every post. It helps me to know what is happening. That is a beautiful wreath. I can see it once a year and like just as much as the first time.
ReplyDeleteI'll pop an interesting weather tidbit now and then.
Deletemay the returning light bring you prosperity
