I've decided I'm no longer going to do regular posts about my weight loss challenges, success, or goals. It's so personal to individuals, and I'll find a different way to keep accountable to myself. To anyone who's battled weight loss and won, I celebrate you. It's hard work and you deserve to be proud. And if I ever do reach some major milestones, I'll perhaps just share those.
In no particular order, here's 10 things that brought joy, was a simple pleasure or just made me smile.
- My older daughter is going to play softball in rec team. I found her old glove, made sure to clean it, sanitize old smells. It brought back fun memories of my old playing and her travelling ball days. Plus, I can come out to the field and watch a game now and then.
- A Friday work celebration event while still online, was actually kind of fun. We did a sort of WFH scavenger hunt.
- I bought myself and MIL tulips instead of lilies. They are starting to open and are so pretty and the squirrels can't steal these bulbs.
- We had a nice night out with the girls Friday.
- My younger daughter shared the engagement of a friend. She learned the news joining said friend for coffee on Saturday.
- Our son actually contacted us with Easter greetings first!
- Remember the video of pup barking at the stuffed dog. My 21 month old great nephew sat with my phone for 10 minutes watching it over and over. He used his little finger to start again and again.
- Both the ham and green beans ( recipe tomorrow for my new version) were a success and devoured.
- The Swedish fish and microwave popcorn tub used as a wrappable gift along with money was a hit with our 15 year old nephew. He sent a picture that he popped the corn the same night. (Edit to change to my typo to 15, not 25. I don't do birthday gifts for young adults other than mine past 18)
- It was nice having the college girl home for the weekend. We had lunch together before she went back yesterday afternoon.
I hope you found lots of joy, smiles, and simple pleasures in the past week. It's still unseasonably cold but it makes the sun all the more welcome. Fel free to share your joys.
I think you are right not to post about the minutiae of weight loss, Sam. I honestly think it's counter productive. I've managed to lose 75 pounds but it's taken me eight years to do it. Can you begin to imagine how tedious it would be to post about that rate of loss but how great it feels to have done it? I think if I had tried to blog about it I would have felt very discouraged. It's a very personal slog which I am continuing but I rarely share it on my blog. Share the milestones but don't make sharing a millstone.
ReplyDeleteGreat end quote. Sharing so much wasn't helpful to me or people reading.
DeleteThe popcorn and Swedish fish as a vehicle for a money gift is a great idea!
ReplyDeleteJoys are always out there, it is just that some days they have to be looked for a little harder.
My joy for the day is the day is gorgeous and it is produce stand day. They only set it up 3 days each week and I am out of tomatoes, cucumbers and squash.
Produce stands are a joy to me too. Maybe by the middle of June we'll see them.
DeleteI love tulips. Especially cut ones in a vase or even in a pot. They are sure signs of Spring to me. I love the gift idea for nephew. You always come up with great ideas for young adults. I'm glad you had a nice weekend. I was just in the kitchen and when I stepped on the wood floor, I felt warmth, and first thought a cat must have been sitting there, but it was from the sun. So even though it's a bit weak, it is definitely giving more warmth than a few weeks ago. I don't have a lot of south facing windows, but opened what blinds I could to take advantage because despite what the calendar shows, it gets chilly in the house and the sun is most welcome. Rumor has it the weather is going to warm up but I didn't see any real indication that it is going to continue. I wasn't happy waking up to snow yesterday. It's been a daily thing and even though it melts, it's still not warm. Ranee
ReplyDeleteThese are potted in dirt tulips so I'll hope to get weeks of enjoyment. Pup has his spot in the dining room to catch the sun. It was cloudy though when we walked.
DeleteThose tulips are gorgeous. What a lovely treat!
ReplyDeleteSunshine and warmth, cat cuddles from our visiting strays, swimming, Spoons breakfasts, cinema trips, charity shopping finds, good books, daft films, good company and the prospect of a week away from the UK - those a a few of my happy things this week! xxx
Great list. I'm excited to hear about a trip in your posts.
DeleteHow neat that your nephew sent you the photo of your gift to him. How nice that your son sent Easter greetings before you. Sounds like a great list of joys for the week.
ReplyDeleteHe's a really sweet kid. Genuinely appreciated the gift and wanted us to know. Last year it was sour patch kids and bottled Arnold Palmer ice teas.
DeleteYour tulip is so pretty. I love the color. Flowers always bring Joy.
ReplyDeleteHave a great Tuesday Sam.
They were even prettier last night.
DeleteLots of joys Easter day, although I was very tired. Grandkids were cute and the food was delicious. There is still coconut cake left and I think that is all I ate yesterday. Two pieces, so let's not talk about weight. My joy today is that the sun is shining and even though it is still cold I love the sun.
ReplyDeleteNo dessert's left after Easter. One nephew had 7 desserts!
DeleteThe tulips are lovely, its so nice having fresh flowers around.
ReplyDeleteThese are still in the pot so hope they stay pretty a while.
Deleteten joyful things to celebrate the good in life x
ReplyDeleteThere's of course more than 10, though some might just be that first sip of coffee or hearing kids laughing when playing outside.
DeleteThose tulips are soooo pretty. Fresh cuts flowers are a real joy, aren't they!
ReplyDeleteThese are a potted plant, bulbs and all. They were only $5 so easy splurge.
DeleteI think your list of joys is wonderful. What a great gift for your nephew, I'm sure he was thrilled.
ReplyDeleteMy greatest joy this week, thus far, was spending time with my niece and nephew (19 and 21) as we prepared their tax returns. It's hard to believe they're both adults now. :)
You're nice to help them. I helped my daughter as well.
DeleteI love your list of 10 joys, Sam!
ReplyDeleteI need to think 10 joys for the day and keep perspective
