I was sitting and thinking yesterday about what I wanted to do with the day. (Turns out not much of anything, and no guilt). It hit me that it's already been five weeks since my birthday. I had in my head it was just a couple weeks ago. That tells me how fast time flies. I hope 2023 isn't just a blur. Here's my New Year's World in W's right now.
What's Top of Mind:
It's the homestretch for my Travelor. In a week, I'll have a houseful with DD2 back and DS visiting. I'm sure DD1 and puppy will be here most of the weekend. First, we'll have a few days with just my son.
Where I've been:
A lunch outing with sisters and cousins. Monday we hit the sales a tiny bit. I've taken some needed, but after melt then refreeze, treacherous walks. DH went to his store party yesterday so had lunch there, caught up on emails, and win a gift card to Fleet Farm. Living the dream. I had him stop to restock my diet Coke, and a few chips for tonight. We decided to completely stay home. I'm not even planning anything special but to use up leftovers. I will put the sparkling grape juice in the fridge, maybe we'll go wild and have a toast. I might just have a beer and call it good.
Where I’m going:
We'll go to the one 10:00 church service tomorrow and I think, out for an early lunch. I'd like to see the poinsettias in the front. We contribute to the purchase in memory of our parents and sisters who passed. That's it- big New Years Plans. Actually, I hope to do a bit of home admin, get the few Christmas decorations put away, and finish any cleaning not done today. I'll have the airport run late Tuesday/ Wednesday early am, technically for DS.
What I'm eating:
I need to recap what all was done with the ham, but I've had it so many ways! We've also eaten on that big pizza from Wednesday twice, and will finish today. I think I've frozen all the treats, and staying away from the sugar. Of course I need to resolve to eat better in 2023.
What I’m watching:
I'm done with Christmas movies, blogs, food channels, and setting that viewing aside until after Thanksgiving. We watched the end of the Minnesota Gopher's bowl game Thursday, and some other game after. I attempted but got bored with a Liam Neeson movie called Blacklight. Today and tomorrow will be football games as the NFL spread them out for more revenue generating opportunities as the playoff picture becomes clearer. The Vikings play Green Bay at Green Bay, so it'll be interesting.
What I’m reading:
I reserved my book club book, The People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry, from the library so hope to get on Tuesday. The library will be closed Monday as the New Year public holiday. Whether it will get ready is another matter.
What I’m listening to:
I just fed the puppy, and like clockwork, he wanted to go back to his crate for a couple hours. The goal is he sleeps until 5:00 to feed, but he woke up early for a bathroom break and was not having going back to bed, so I stayed up the hour. We try not to vary his meal times so didn't want to feed him early or he'd get in a bad wake-up habit. Now I'm hearing both dogs snoring. Otherwise, the only other sound is the occasional kicking on of the furnace. Peaceful Saturday morning.
What I’m planning:
See where I'm going which turned into what I'm planning. Thanks for a few suggestions in comments. I have a four day weekend in February, but DH doesn't unless he intentionally took vacation. I added that only because it's easier to get away when you have extra time away from work.
Who needs a good slap:
I was staying away from this, but the news was filled with idiots. There's the Representative elect Santos character who thought lying that he completed college and invented employment was just "embellishing" his resume a bit. Then, and I don't even remember his name, guy who got into a Twitter pissing match with Greta Thurnberg, later causing a photo with a pizza box, which he was proud to not recycle ( which shouldn't be anyway as good contaminated) leading to his subsequent arrest from an outstanding warrant. What a tool. I guess he did get literally slapped.
Who Deserves Knuck's (Fist Bump):
My cousin for passing on to me, for my daughter's, a few things she had that were my grandma's. This was the only grandparent I remembered, so having a few of her things stay in my family meant a lot. All I previously had was a teacup and saucer.
What’s making me smile:
Seeing how happy my cousin was to see us, and share her favorite restaurant.
I doubt I'll see midnight, so might count down with my daughter. I think they might be in Italy today and I'm not sure the time difference, 7-8 hours perhaps? Or, I'll just pick London time and watch coverage on Britbox, so it would be 6:00 p.m. here. I've seen advertisements for Miley Cyrus and Dollie Parton hosting a NYE celebration on NBC. It might be fun to watch a bit. It's sweet that Dollie is Miley's Godmother. Whatever your plans are, I hope you have a safe and Happy New Year's Eve.
I'm going to try to stay up tonight to ring in the NY with the big guy. I can't guarantee I will make it. I can only imagine how excited you are to have all of your kids home together. I'm so happy for you. Have a great day Sam!!
ReplyDeleteI didn't make it. Texts went off at 12:00 with greetings, the dogs were woke with fireworks, but I barely moved. I'm very excited for the week ahead.
DeleteHappy New Year Sam. I am sure you are excited to have all your children soon. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI am, and I'll wrap Christmas and New Year's together.
DeleteIt's great all your children will be home at once, sort of a late present for you. Tonight will be sausage balls, a bad treat--chip and dip. We will eat super healthy until the treats. We will see Dolly and Miley. Sunday, the few decorations will come down. Hopefully, the woman who cleaned will come Sunday, too. I feel incredibly good and feel boring and I don't care.
ReplyDeleteIt's a very good present too. I'll celebrate holidays a second round. I had a few potato chips, but that was my only indulgence.
DeleteI won't even pretend to try to make it past midnight. LOL!! I will have to agree with you on the who needs a slap...I mean, come on.... really?
ReplyDeleteIt's even his brazen dismissal of his lies that gets me. No, people don't embellish their resumes with non existent degrees and employment History.
DeleteCongratulations on the gift card from Fleet Farm. I’ve ordered from them online and always had good service from them. That was crazy about Santos lying on his resume and to say that everyone embellishes on their resume. Um, no they don’t. And the pizza box guy needs to be more careful in the future. 😂
ReplyDeleteThe pizza box guy sure was a genius- but then, he thinks resources are unlimited, so there's that. Funny, I've never lied on my resume and said it was embellishment.
DeleteI will try to make it to midnight. We are having our traditional fancy appetizer dinner. I agree with who needs a slap. Stupidity at its finest. Today I am going to try to get the rest of the Christmas stuff down and all the laundry done. Enjoy having all your kiddos together later.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great reason to set the table with your good stuff. I'll make a full dinner next Sunday right down to wine glasses and salad plates!
DeleteNo one in this house except Charlotte the dog will be up LOL. Happy New Year and I agree with who needs a good slap.
ReplyDeleteWell, the fireworks going off woke us all for a bit. DH was up but I doubt he wasn't asleep in front of television.
DeleteYour NYE sounds about 1,000 per cent more energetic than mine. I will be slobbing around here on my own and perfectly fine with that. Happy New Year to you and yours! A
ReplyDeleteAdmittedly, not. I got a headache wave late morning. Piercing. So few things done, but leaves me with loads to do.
DeleteI love how Greta Thunberg helped get that misogynistic idiot get arrested, go girl!
ReplyDeleteWishing you and your family a happy and healthy New Year. Thanks for your friendship and dedication to blogland over the last year. xxx
It was a good day for jerks to be up ended. I really appreciate your blog, the color, the style, the travel. My little world is small, but blogging helps me connect near and far.
DeleteOut Weet with grandkids including newborn! I am so happy! I am cooking a ham, baked potatoes, and butternut squash now, and will add greens to the ham and black eyed peas (if I can find them here) for a traditional Southern good luck New Year's dish. Happy New Year! Cindy in the South
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy for you, Cindy. Enjoy every moment with them. Happy New Year!
DeleteWe all managed to catch a head cold, probably from my nieces and nephew so not much going on here. I’m off today and have been putting away Christmas, swept and mopped floors, switched purses, laundry all day. I’ve got pork and sauerkraut in the crockpot, traditional New Years food for us. We’ll stay up til midnight, watching football and the ball drop but I’m not lasting much longer since I open tomorrow. 2022 was a wild one. The end of the year looks very different than the beginning of the year. New places, new faces. A lot happened. I’m not even going to speculate as to what 2023 could bring. I know I have some health things to work on. Financials are always top of mind. Decluttering and simplifying is an ongoing mission. Happy New Year! JoAnn
ReplyDeleteWe both have colds too, then I got one of my occasional stabby, piercing headaches. It was a good night to lay low. It seemed our neighborhood was quiet. I don't know for sure anything about 2923, but know there will be changes in life.
DeleteA good set of Ws for the end of the year !
ReplyDeleteI like to recap the week this way. Not a lot of excitement, but that's not bad.
DeleteHi Sam, thank you so much for stopping by my blog. I hope that you had a great celebration of new year. p.s use sour cream if you can't find crème fraîche. how come no leek? Thought it's a winter veggie?
ReplyDeleteI don't know why leeks are hard to find. I think they're just not a big veg in my part of the country. I enjoyed your blog- found through Anne I think. I like to click when I see blogs I have not seen before and find the best people! Thanks for visiting my blog.
DeleteI loved this post. And yes, I was cheering for Greta alllll the way!!!
ReplyDeleteArrogance leads the fallen. I want to reduce my carbon footprint so reducing pizza boxes might see e multiple purposes, lol.
