I've been up. I've been down. I've been sideways it seems. Vacation time? What's that? I'm envious of people that have jobs that when they go on vacation, nothing needs to be thought of. There's no work piling up, or chances you'll still need to go to the office ( virtual or not) to sort something out or keep something moving. I'm very frustrated that someone is ignoring an established timeline, only considering their schedule, and it's going to leave me both scrambling this week, and the week I'm supposed to have time off. But, it's Tuesday so the point is to keep life positive and find those joys and simple pleasures.
Tuesday: Puppy class did not go well for me, but daughter had better luck with him listening. I struggle with the long leesh, but also was mentally not all there after a hard work day. But he's coming along. He learned, and we need to practice, more patience. We weren't sure when the rain would shift to freeze and snow, so daughter stayed over. She got her car oil changed in the morning too, so a safety item checked from her to do list.
Wednesday: My daughter worked until about 1 from my dining room and the we had a quick lunch together. She and puppy went home to finish her work day and be ahead of snow fall. Just two of us at trivia, but a couple from church joined us for a bit the second half. Surprisingly, even though our score was lower than some nights, we finished first. I tried the new Winterberry hard seltzer and it was delicious.
Thursday: It was a winter snow globe and neither DH or I had to leave the house, though we both did rounds one and two of shoveling, and pup got walked. I made soup during a morning break, and supper was a conglomerate of leftovers, and or soup, so easy relaxing night.
Friday: I had a no show for my first interview for the position that's been vacant since May, so disappointing, but not going to worry. I enjoyed the gathering at the new office, seeing people I haven't in person in nearly three years and a few who started after we began remote work. It was nice. DH and I had a quiet night at home with pup. I made burgers and steak fries and we watched Elf. My son got his flights worked out for the 4th-11th and got messages that my daughter arrived safely to London.
Saturday: After icing my knee, it felt almost good. During the horrendous first half of the Vikings game I moved cars and did another round of shoveling, as we had more light snow, plus places that needed more work from Thursday. Getting that done so DH wouldn't need to felt good as he'd had to deal with snow removal at work for two days. He surprised me and got off work early and we watched the 4th quarter 39 point turn around to see the Vikings win. Later, I had a nice sleepover night at my daughter's, seeing her cute house and new touches. I slept in her guest room instead of kicking her out of her own bed as she's had me do before, and the mattress bought last month instead of the air mattress was comfy. She eventually wants a full or queen bed in there, but it works for a single guest.
Sunday: The little fundraiser was cute. Grandpuppy was curious and not the best poser for photos, too much going on, but she got a few adorable shots. He barked a bit, but was not scared of other dogs, just the opposite. He wanted to greet and see everyone. If you're a dog person, the coming and going of different breeds would be your thing. My daughter bought an ornament to be made with his picture. I used a local grocery store to buy and get my Christmas Eve ham sliced for Saturday. It won't be as tasty as bone in, but will be easier to cook and transport, and ready for sandwiches.
Monday: Work was productive on other things, but still nothing passed my way for review for the big project, but there's a meeting scheduled. A few presents got wrapped. My daughter's been doing check-ins with me so I know she's still good in London. She heads back to Spain early tomorrow meeting up with her Minnesota college friends. It was fun seeing her Instagram shots from Morocco. Here's one I borrowed. Amazing that my little girl was part of that parade!
That's things that passed for joys or smiles in the past week. I need to cast off the work frazzle and enjoy my time offline better, so doing some holiday treat making tonight should help. We've got winter storm warnings coming tomorrow, and I hope that doesn't mean trivia will be cancelled. I'd guess I'd the host can make it, it'll still happen, but my friends might want to stay put. I hope you truly experienced some positives this week.
I always enjoy reading your joys for the week. I hope things get squared away at work so you can enjoy your time off. It is supposed to be brutally cold here this weekend with 35-40 mph winds on Friday and Saturday but not sure whether we'll get snow or not. Winter is coming in like a bulldozer this year here.
ReplyDeleteThe brutal cold started last night. We watched the car temp drop between puppy class and home by 5 degrees. The positive is even if the blizzard, coming today I guess, snows us in all weekend, we have all we need.
DeleteWork is similarly making me absolutely bananas, and I too have a job where someone is always on call, even over the holidays, weekends, etc.
ReplyDeleteThe hard seltzer sounds delicious! And, love, love, love the photo! It's a stunning pic. So glad your daughter is having such incredible experiences.
Positives: still enjoying our mantle & tree lights, looking forward to seeing my family this weekend, happy I get a chance to see Nick playing with his school team, and SO ready for finals to wrap.
It's such a nice alternative to beer, as there's just one beer I like at the brewery. I hope your boys zoom through finals.
DeleteWhat is the story behind the camel parade? Are there ever any repercussions for the people not doing their part at your work?
ReplyDeleteIt's not a literal parade, but the pattern of how when traveling on camel they took from town to their camp site. Not really other than the bottle m line deadline, but then that would reflect worse on me. I could complain the the person that the report to, but that's not great office dynamics.
DeleteI had a murder jury trial all last week I had to try (he was found guilty and had shot victim five times.) There was another new murder last night, and I was called out for that (assistant district attorneys in our state answer legal questions for law enforcement officers, if needed) so I have been up most of night and I have regular court this morning on other cases.l, arraignments, hearings on revocations, etc. I am beyond exhausted, so I understand about never being able to leave work behind. ReplyDeleteI could not mentally do your job and see the worst of humans. I hope you get some time away from it.
DeleteThat picture is amazing! Yes being from Midwest Minnesota I’ve already had it with the weather! I was in the cities yesterday (Monday) to meet my new grandson, he is wonderful! But of course had high hopes of finishing some shopping but the weather got terrible so after only Costco I headed home :( not knowing how bad it would get, so slippery and 10 miles per hour till Monticello ugh! Now to the frigid blowing weather! Later if your daughter gets to the full mattress time we have really liked the IKEA ones, bought some for the cabin, were fairly reasonable priced. Also easy to transport as they are rolled up which really helps. My hopes of finishing more decorating, another tree, great baked goods etc. are a bomb so I’m bummed today, I just hope to finish wrapping. I’m taking 6 grandkids tonight to Fargo for light displays and HuHut in -30 windchill but those experiences and time together are the things that really count. Jre
ReplyDeleteWe're in for a long Minnesota winter. My girl now is back in Spain, but other side of country, after ,four days in London that followed her Morrocco trip. Worse case scenario, 😂 m walking distance, cold walk, to a grocery store.
DeleteWork has been interesting. I've been trying to finish a report (due today, but I am going to wrap it up before my time off) My boss gave me the green light to take it easy this week, but support cases need to be worked as much as possible. I got to see my grandchildren, but will not be able to have a Christmas gathering due to weather. But they FaceTimed me this morning, so that was good.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry your plans changed. Safety first is called for and still being an hour away, dangerous. You'll be in my thoughts leading up to your surgery.
DeleteUgh, I hate people who don't think of others around this time of year - I also have folks who are dragging their heels. Get your timesheets in early! "Elf" always makes me happy. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is my last full week until after New Year's - I can't wait! I hope the rest of your week goes smoothly, Sam!
Elf is a dumb, silly, mood lifter. Enjoy your trip me off! I can't wait to see what you wear for your holidays.
DeleteThat is a cool photo! So sorry you are dealing with work stress still. I hope that your holiday treat making goes well. We will make cookies tomorrow at my mom's house, as our oven is still broken and who knows when it will get fixed. It is what it is. I hope you have a good rest of your week!
ReplyDeleteI had a good meeting yesterday that helped me considerably. That felt good to see something progressing. I'm sorry for your oven. Not great in winter.
DeleteWow, what an amazing experience for your daughter. Your family certainly had both weather extremes, snow and desert heat.
ReplyDeleteYour week sounds frazzled, but at least you can find some brightness and positives. Megan.
She worked hard during school years and summers so these side trips are her payback. I'm focused on finding positives wherever I can.
DeleteThat picture is stunning! I struggled last week with work and exhaustion but a much needed weekend off cured a lot. I bought myself a Christmas gift, something I’ve wanted for awhile but hated to spend the money on. Turns out I found it second hand but in perfect condition and I had a coupon-almost 90% off msrp. No one needs to know that it’s not brand new ;) We have apparently decided to not do a gift exchange at work after all, since no one took charge to organize it. Fine by me! Some of us current employees and some former ones are meeting for a post Christmas “family reunion” and I’m pumped for that. Dinner with friends is my favorite hobby, hands down. I also scheduled a PTO day for January to get together with my mom friends. I need to start taking some vacation time, I’m rolling almost three weeks into the new year. JoAnn
ReplyDeleteI bet you can't wait until December is done with work. Friends help heal a lot of stress. We ran out of time this week for cookie making and now bad weather but have plans for January and February.
DeleteNice lot of joys for the week. I was in Minnesota when the Vikings game was on. My SIL and his brother are big fans and we watched the first part as we had our Christmas. My daughter said the game could be on but had to be on mute so Christmas music could be on too! When the Vikings were having a horrible time they stopped watching for a bit but then we had to see the ending. I'm not an American Football fan but it was quite the comeback!
ReplyDeleteIt was quite an incredible game. There's been a Minnesota Nice meme going around that the Vikings were just displaying nice by giving a big lead. No way would my husband watch in silence. Football will trump Christmas music here.
DeleteThat was an amazing comeback for the Vikings!
ReplyDeleteI could handle them winning with a big point difference once in awhile.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to think that it's been 2 years this coming january since I rode a camel across the Thar desert. Like your daughter I've also done the same in the Sahara. Great photo! xxx
