Winter World of W's

Blog Land is still quieter, but that makes sense. Some is travel, or hosting people, or just a needed break.  We got more snow so I added a few more pictures sprinkled throughout to show the snow globe. Here's my World in W's right now.

What's Top of Mind:

My daughter, who had a good trip last week to Morrocco, now is in London. She's with friends, but has to travel to Barcelona solo early Wednesday. They encountered train strikes yesterday so will need to factor that, but she's staying Tuesday night near the airport so hopefully she'll not have any issues.

Where I've been:

I went into the office about 10:45 and main roads were clear and fine. I snapped this when paused so you can vsee what commuters ( late past rush hour) might see.

 Where I’m going:

Later I'm going to my daughter's and will stay over. We may be going to a local lights event and tomorrow a dog park fundraiser.

What I'm eating:

I made the Bear Creek tortilla soup, doctored up with corn and chicken. I also added more water to dilute the soup, so my additions brought the sodium down a tad. It was quite tasty, as most things with too much salt are. I already had some reprimands when I bought the mixes, so no need to revisit.(Edit- just a little humor;  I took no offense at any comments, just acknowledgement that I know these are full of salt and there's healthier from scratch versions.)  It worked for us this week. I froze some for a future meal and we'll finish the rest not frozen this weekend.

What I’m watching:

I'm still watching episodes of Game of Thrones when I end my day. It's fascinating if nothing else. I will say, Peter Dinklish is a phenomenal actor. Disregard the type casting and just hear how he delivers the lines, evokes the feel of the situation is incredible. I remember his role in The Station Agent, totally different character, but portrayed equally well.

What I’m reading:

I finally leafed through both November and December Real Simple magazines. It's nice to look at perfection on pages. Lol. Actually, I was getting annoyed because it seems the magazine is once again moving away from trying to help folks simplify, but sell more stuff in the speak of simplicity. A few articles and ideas are helpful. Not sure I'm giving up on it, as having a magazine slipped in my bag is a nice wait diversion.

What I’m listening to:

Someone's got a snowmobile firing up on and off in the neighborhood. No doubt the paths from town to the little hamlets will be packed. Snowmobilers like to get out to the bar and grills in these tiny towns 5-8 miles out from our city limits. There's some open space and many know farm fields that are fine with snow mobiles. I kind of hope one goes through the park and grooms a bit more walking path. I haven't noticed if the path was cleared yet. Pup was fine walking in our own yard, to mail box and back.  I've still got my Christmas music station on in the car.

It's a good thing we have power. Look how
heavy the snow is, branches leaning on
power lines.

 What I’m planning:

I'm planning the last of what I need for meals next weekend. I plan to clean and wrap presents today and tomorrow. I've barely started, but looking at now maybe a longer than one night get away so looked at flight and hotel packages for maybe 3 nights. DD1 will watch our dog. I'm just not sure I want to deal with flights and think just a localish get away will be equally rejuvenating.

Who needs a good slap:

I'm still refraining, but people that treat the roads like a race track need something! Here's a pretty picture of our city hall instead.

Who Deserves Knuck's (Fist Bump):

My works Executive team and their support staff put on a lovely open house type gathering yesterday. Probably less than 1/4 of employees came, days off, illness, meeting conflicts, but it was nice to see who came. I met many people in person for the first time, those having been hired since we started remote work.

What’s making me smile

Pup was fascinated, but irritated at the plow, hearing but not seeing, so barked away. But, once he saw that it was leaving, he did the sneeze of self satisfaction, like he alone chased the yellow monster away.

Our view from my front door window.
That's been my week. Join in if you'd like. I'm always interested in the world you all live in.

  1. "I already had some reprimands when I bought the mixes." I think the food shaming, Bento-Box lunch-box packing-for-their-kids-virtue-signaling-"oh, we don't eat that" crowd needs a nice, huge glass of shut the fuck up to go along with their meals. Frozen pizza here last night, with homemade peanut butter cups. I had a considerable amount of chocolate left over, which I didn't want to waste. I was going to cover mini pretzels, but only had pretzel crisps. That meant instead of dipping, I had to brush the chocolate on them. I put them on a tray covered with buttered parchment paper to set. I woke up this morning to see the tray empty, so I think they were a hit. The plan was to make chowder with Thursday's leftover salmon, but I didn't feel like standing at the stove after making the candy. Tonight is either chowder, or ham..or maybe, just maybe, I will make another Crock Pot roast with TWO CANS OF CONDENSED SOUP AND TOSS I AN ENVELOPE OF ONION SOUP MIX FOR GOOD MEASURE!!!!

    2. I don't begrudge folks pointing out that these mixes are stocked with sodium. I am aware, and occasionally take the short cut. 9 of 10 meals in m cooking with better ingredient's. I try to dilute with non sodium items like plain chicken, frozen corn, and more water. I won't make mysin diet.

  2. I love the City Hall pic, pop of color in the snow! What’s top of mind? We haven’t heard a peep about Christmas bonuses. And that seems strange. I’ve had a to calm down a few antsy coworkers, while wondering myself what’s going on. I don’t know how they don’t give a bonus of some sort when they have every year prior, unless there’s something big we don’t know. Where I’ve been? DD and I went to the movies Wednesday and saw Elf. Even though we could sit on our couch and watch it any time, the theatre was playing it and other holiday movies for a discount and it was a fun girls night. Where I’m going? No where special. I’ve been shopping at off peak hours and avoiding the crush of humanity. What I’m eating? We did get Crumbl and we’re pretty disappointed by them this time. They all seemed hard unfortunately. Watching? One of my plans for the weekend was to watch Home Alone and I did last night. I’ve been listening to Christmas music at work and in the car, but find myself switching away from it more often now. Knucks to DD who made Deans List! I’m literally bragging about her to everyone, I even told our UPS driver lol. I’m just so darn proud of her. No slaps, but maybe and eye roll to a few cranky customers. I will bend over backwards to help people but if you get snotty, I can give that same energy back. I will say, as a whole, people have been on pretty good behavior so far. Trying to stay on the nice list, I suppose. JoAnn

  3. I love the picture of your town hall. Really enchanting. What am I doing today? Going to see my oldest granddaughter's dance recital and then have a sleepover with the two oldest. What am I watching? Hallmark movies (that is if I can stay awake) Who needs a good slap? Everybody that bought a digital trading card.

    1. I don't see it as judgey, just didn't want to repeat the same conversation from two months ago. I use sparingly. It's fun to see the pretty when complaining about snow.

Who needs a good slap... Grandson who is coming home mom (my kid) for starting drama in the family AGAIN at Christmas to the point AGAIN of not know where we will be going to see grandson (his stepmom offered her home)
Who gets the fist bump... Grandson's stepmom for putting him FIRST
What makes me smile...Figuring out how to keep the coal stove steady with heat...not having either of us having to get up in the middle of the night and fill it like we did with wood. Not paying $60 a week for propane

    2. Oh that's a shame, I was hoping it would be lavishly decorated! The final's this afternoon. Go, Argentina! xxx

    3. Inside, there might be a little nice wood work, but overall, just looks like an office building.

  8. That is a lovely building. So many old city halls were torn down in the 70s, like here, all we have is a cinder block monstrosity. It sounds like your daughter is having a great time. I hope any strikes don't inconvenience her too much.

  9. Okay, it's all fun and games until you start having health issues. If you were referring to me, I only wanted to make you aware. No, I don't eat or serve those kinds of items anymore, once I became aware. An ounce of prevention and all that. Sorry. Ranee

    1. I take no offense, just was hoping to not repeat the same discussion from when I bought the mixes. In disclosure mode, wanted to share my soup was not from scratch. I am aware that these are not a good option for every day, so use these shortcuts sparingly. I mean, it sat since October in my pantry after all. Take care :).

  10. I hope the lines hold under the snow. No heat would be no fun! Our dog would let anyone in the yard if we were gone, but when we returned, she heard the car and acted like she would eat them as they were leaving. She did her job...lol.
