This is the last weekend before Halloween. We used to take the kids to the community Halloween party. We ourselves do not go out much, but still, I like the idea that if we decide to pop out for a burger and a beer, we will run into all sorts of beings, being someone else for the night. I like the cheesy Halloween movies, so will probably watch something this weekend. Not the stupid slasher, teen movies, but something old time or Disney like.
Next weekend is my annual sisters day, where we hang out from breakfast until late into the evenings. We go shopping, stop for an afternoon cocktail, and in the past, would go out for dinner then stay overnight somewhere. the last few years we've ended up at my sisters and just had pizza or sloppy Joe's, while playing cards all night. It was decided this year to extend the day to nieces and daughters and daughters-in-law, so we'll see who wants to partake in this day. Sleepover is optional depending on the lateness and depth of sampling some of our wine purchases from the day. I won't be though as DD2 has an all day choir festival on Sunday.
The following weekend is wrapped in with Veteran Day ceremonies. coming from a veteran family, it is important to me that we honor those that gave their service and sadly, more. This year DD2's school choir and her orchestra are part of the town ceremony. We have a paid day off work as well, so that is appreciated.
It seems by mid November, the Christmas hoopla starts every where. These three weekends of late fall are a nice reset before the hustle and bustle of Thanksgiving then Christmas preparations. I have been trying to focus on the positives of November, even though the last 10 years have been bitter sweet with both the anniversaries of the births and deaths of my mom and sister. They both liked shopping and happy hours, and hanging out with their sisters, daughters, and friends. So now, I'm trying to focus on November and late October in their glory. It is soup time and football time. Time to bake and time to watch bad made for TV movies on Hallmark. Ahh, fall weekends.

I really love fall as well, and am looking forward to a relaxing/productive weekend. I hope to go crush leaves tomorrow or Sunday on a hike as well. The weather should be perfect for it!
ReplyDeleteI'm meeting my daughter for coffee early as she has a friend from college visiting by later morning. She's going to help me with my new web site/blog for just cooking and meal planning. I think DH and I will go out for the tail end of Happy hour, but I have not slept well so an early night with a movie I think. A hike sounds great through, so if n rain, perhaps I'll take pup over to the park with the water fall.
DeleteSo you do have a "board game evening" after all - well a sisters' day! How lovely. I would love to do that but with some in England and Wales, one sister in Denmark and me in France we'd be hard pushed to get together. My ex mother-in-law was 12th of 12 children and 11 of them lived in the Pittsburgh area. They had 3 farms and the whole family would routinely get together (with the sisters making it all happen of course). Now as the families have moved on/gotten bigger/older and the farms have been sold off it doesn't happen (there are only 2 sisters left) but it must have been lovely to have that kind of upbringing. Enjoy your sisters and family! And sleep over so you can let your hair down!
ReplyDeleteWe are poker gals! Though, we have some quirky poker games we through in to mix up the traditional Five card draw or Texas Hold Em. I am lucky that my sisters are all close, and all friends. We miss J very much of course, but it will be interesting to see how many of the next generation decide to tag along this year.
DeleteEver since I moved to Florida, I love November! It's my and my middle sister's birthday month and then we have Thanksgiving. This year is even going to be better because my daughter and family are visiting for Thanksgiving YAY. I lived in the Midwest (Iowa, Chicago) many years- in fact, this sister who shares my birthday month lived in Minneapolis several years- and November was COLD LOL. It's our nicest time of year IMO- no air conditioning or heat needed with temps in the 60s/70s. Your sisters' weekend sounds great.
ReplyDeleteWe never know what we might get for weather by thanksgiving. We've had below 0 and nearly 50's. I love Thanksgiving-no pressure (I guess unless you are the host) just food, family, and friends. So great for you having your family join you.
