Now, she is officially done. She got to represent the choir on the stage for the preliminary awards and the announcement of the six finalists. My friend captured a series of the surprise and awe. Her bestie, and another two friends have waited all season to be the representatives and what a venue to have your turn come up-the Grand Ole Opry!
No more make-up, over lacquered hair, and costume dresses. They performed wonderfully in finals, despite a 6 of 6 placed finish. There were stellar teams that didn't even make the finals, some of the best in the country.
We had a great little trip to Nashville. My pictures are horrendous so nothing to post really, but I would recommend a long weekend to anyone-longer if you have time and energy after the downtown night life to get out of the city and find some distilleries, ranches, and mansions. We ate decent barbecue, tasted Tennessee whiskey and moonshine, and even for a non-country music person like me, listened to a lot of live music beyond the show choir competition. Other than when she was on stage and some hugs and tears after the performances, we didn't see our daughter. All the choirs had an exclusive (non alcohol) party at the Wild Horse Saloon, including line dancing. While that would have been fun to see 1,000 singing and dancing kids on one floor, we left them to have their fun while we had fun with the other parents. A chaperone did capture a bit on video, and we saw DD2 line dancing her little heart out.
There is a final banquet, but for the most part, this chapter has closed for both my daughter and me. Thank you all for your patience in my stories of life of a show choir mom.

Aaah, what a lovely way to go out with a bang. You can be very proud of them all!
ReplyDeleteI love it and agree with Treaders - what a great way to close out such an adventure in her life
ReplyDeleteNice! My kids weren't involved in music in school but my DH was and went to NYC as a senior for the World's Fair. He loved singing and choir and even sang in the church choir as an adult. Your daugter has great parents who really suported her. What expereinces she and you had.
