Positivley Tuesday-Challenge to be Broken

On this Positively Tuesday edition, I'm going to throw a little love downwards to my feet. I was, am doing so well on my personal challenge to not spend more than $80 on clothing this entire year. Part was motivation to mix and match and use what is in my closet to better extent and part as motivation to get healthier, tone up and lose some weight. I would then treat myself in 2020 with new better fitting clothes. That is still work in progress. However, I have decided I will be breaking the challenge to get new shoes; shoes that will support me better day in and day out. I want something that is a mix of casual and work appropriate to wear with  work pants but also jeans. If I am fortunate enough to find a pair that can be used with skirts and dresses even better.

I am on Schuyler Shoe's mailing list and frequently get e-mails for discounts. They have staff trained to measure all parts of a foot, and help find the best shoes. These are top brands like Rockport, Clarks, Hickory etc. but do not come icheap. Last summer I struck it right and found a pair of $110 Rockport comfort sandals for $54 on clearance. These were a blessing on the hard cobblestone sidewalks and streets in Europe last summer. They are starting to show the wear as I have warn them a lot in the last 10 months. Sale, clearance or not, I thing the decent shoes have moved into a need category, and regardless of other things I might buy clothing wise, I don't see this as an extravagance, but a preventative healthy feet measure. I'm prepared to spend $100, which with a 20% discount coupon, should be doable, which is less than $10 a month investment for the year. I'm thrifty, but that seems like a bargain to help keep me walking without pain.

  1. I don't buy shoes often, but they are always expensive. I know people with much money who can wear and only wear Payless shoes.

    1. Not for long! I used to be able to wear inexpensive shoes, but not any more. I wouldn't mind so much, but I am equally hard on expensive shoes as I am on low cost ones so I probably will replace as often.

  2. I am not sure I would count shoes as a clothing item anyway, unless you were buying a pair to service a single outfit, which you are not. I am with you about buying good shoes vs. cheaper ones. I have a gooby knee and need really good foot support to help with the stupid left knee.

    1. I guess it is not clothing, but just like tires, part of transportation upkeep.

  3. There are several things I don't scrimp on: Surgery, sushi and shoes.

    1. Well, since I'd ever buy sushi, I can put the funds towards my feet.

    1. You've all convinced me that this is not breaking my challenge goal.

  5. I swear by Danskos, and death begins with your feet. Old Swedish proverb. My dad always said this, but he was born with club feet so I guess that was true for him. Try posh mark I get many of my Danskos for 25-35 dollars there.
