September was Financially Better than Expected

     September was much more positive than I thought it was going to be. Our Visa bill contained  several months of insurance, a car repair, final move in items for DD2, and the biggie, her lap top. Still we managed to put $1200 cash into savings and knocked off some of the weekend costs.

College                                     $21,000
Show Choir Trips                      $ 1,970
Graduation Party                       $   900
Move In Weekend                     $   175
Parents Weekend                      $   175
Choir Concert Trips                   $   350
Home Improvements                 $ 5,430
Total                                          $30,000

     DH had a better average September, and we not only cash flowed the Visa, which I was nervous about, we made a decent cash deposit. $570 was the result of getting $500 cash back in Visa rewards and the other $70 for our Met life dividend. Still $630 from regular cash flow when I thought there was risk of having to cover the Visa with savings is a good win in my mind.

($0)  Borrowed from Savings
$ 6,900  Cash Deposit
$ 2,910  Show Choir Trip #1,#2, #3 + Nashville (we are over in this category by $940)
$    100  College Deposit
$    175  Parents weekend (though probably overspent on this in eating out and entertainment_
$8,600   Home Improvement (Over in this category by $3,170)
 $18,685  Net Result

     To meet the $30,0000 goal, we must save $11,315, or on average $3,772 a month. Yikes-that would mean living off my paycheck alone. Good practice I guess for when DH retires, but quite a stretch. I have to remember that we intentionally overspent in our home improvements by $3,170, so from our original plan, an average save rate of $2,515 seems much more doable, but I sure would like to see real savings!

  1. See it was not as bad as you imagined. This kind of expense will never happen again, as far as getting her set up and choir trips.
