How I Spend August 14-20

If spending summaries are not your thing, here is notice to scroll on by and my feelings will not be hurt. This is more an exercise for myself and I'm  inviting anyone that might be interested to peek in. This log goes Friday, August 14 to Thursday, August 20. As a reminder, this is our variable expenses that we might be able to control better or differently. It does not include long term retirement accounts, gifts or spending we might do to help family, charitable contributions, or our daughters college costs as these are fixed or a unique to us priority, and not useful to share with others. My daughters spending is on her own as well, though I am trying to track DH's receipts.

August 14-August 20, 2020

Friday: A no spend day. Total:

Saturday:  I woke up hungry but needed to get going. I got a coffee and breakfast sandwich at McDonalds for the drive, and stupidly an overpriced bottle of water,  after I had stopped at the farmers market. I bought a bouquet of flowers for my MIL, which is under gifts so not part of my  log. I will say though I spent only $8,00 on the most gorgeous bouquet of mixed flowers you can imagine. And, I learned that dahlias, of which there was a perfectly bloomed one in the mix, is her favorite flower. Who knew? Score one for the DIL! I also filled my tank at $1.99 a gallon, just over 10 to fill. Total: Take out $5.36 Care Expense $21.89

Sunday: I picked up individual ice cream cups were fortunately on sale for $3.99 than the usual over $5 plus a 12 count mini poppy seed muffin. I also gave my SIL $20 towards the mini bundt cakes, rather than half ($22) because of getting the ice cream. All was food eaten in part by my family so counting as  groceries.
Total: H&G$31.99

Monday:  No Spend day for this tally, but I did pay for our daughters text books-a lot. Total:$0

Tuesday: Nlo Spend day.Total: $0

Wednesday:  I still have to figure this one out completely. The girls and I did a Target run. I spent on some school things and she bought personal things and I a got a few groceries, of which groceries totaled $12.59. I will pay for school supplies, but she buys her personal stuff-our agreement now that she's an adult. I'm going to conservatively estimate  $36 for the school supplies. Total: $48.59

Thursday: Oh DH! He was longing for a store shop. He decided the things I didn't think we needed yet were totally missing from our house so off to Walmart he went. $32.99 dollar later, and now there is no way I will stay under $600 for the month for H&G and take out. I had a no spend day after the spending yesterday.  He also bought a book of stamps at $11 and my Acorn bill came due-shoot, a I mean t to cancel for $6.40. He also paid several medical co-payment and deductibles totalling $330, but we will get that reimbursed. More to this later. Total: $380.39

Total Spent for the week:

Take Out: $5.36
H&G: $77.57
Clothing: $0
Car Expense:  $21.89
Entertainment: $6.40
Miscellaneous: $36.00
MEdical co-payments and deductibles: $330.00
Total: $477.22

So this week brings me to $552 for household, groceries (H&G), and take out, leaving us with $42 if I want to stay under $600 with still 11 days to go. I know at $30 or more will be for a take out meal when we bring DD2 back to school and we will need fruit, bread, milk etc. before the end of the month. The dog may need dog food, and laundry soap will be low in another week-plus I want to star stocking up. Let's aim for under $700 and call it good. I could apply some of my Target e-gift cards to this, but was hoping to apply them towards  Christmas. $7000 would be at the original cumulative H&G, Eating out, and entertainment budget Add that  I'm spending only about 10% on gas that I had been spending, and we are ahead of the budget. That's my spin and I'm sticking to it.

  1. Overpriced bottle of water... So true. When I was in the US last year, I tried carrying my bottles and refilling them at home or from a gallon sized bottle when I was on the road. I am not a soda drinker so, when I saw that soda is actually less expensive in some cases than a bottle of water, I was shocked.

    1. Bottled water is ridiculous. We are left without options sometimes, but this was lack of planning on my part.
