Days of Our Socially Distanced Lives-V 9

Taking  an idea from a few other bloggers that give insight as to what life is like, I've been picking Friday and Saturday for you all to follow along if you want Not much to follow, but here you go just the same.

Friday, October 30

I slept until 7:22! Unheard of for me, and I felt the impact of not having my  hour or so to myself through the morning. I think it was drinking two  glasses of the seltzer last night-my daughter didn't care for it and I didn't want it to go flat in the refrigerator.  I had a full Crowler last Saturday night too, but no work on Sunday morning. I guess the stuff makes for a good sleep aid.  I hate not being logged in by 7:30, so I flew out of bed, got a few messages taken care of from overnight, and   got ready to login for the 8:00 weekly All Staff Teams meeting. I quickly went and got cleaned up-not bothering with showering-no one to smell me today anyway-and it was time for the meeting to begin. The meeting was pretty much a whole hour of someone form Washington doing a training on fraud. I listened while working on a presentation template as my team is on the division meeting agenda Tuesday. When the meeting was done I quickly made myself tea, then took 15 minute and did my ranty Friday W post, then it was back to work.

This is supposed to be my new flex day Friday, not that it mattered. I put my head down and got another  hours done before I got the e-mail that everything was clear to finalize my new hire. He was happy to accept, so then I tried completing the hiring paper work. Wednesday I had an issue with my VPN and no one still has contacted me from the IT tickets to get it resolved. This meant I couldn't access the HR portal to complete, but another supervisor   did it on my behalf through a quick open teams meeting. I took a break to get some lunch-Cheetos, yes Cheetos, and a little pulled pork in a tortilla since we had no buns or bread. The afternoon was a whirl as I  managed a whole bunch of technical assistance e-mails and quick MS Teams calls, and a sad situation with one of our grantees around incarcerated parents and helping their kids. by the time I logged out, I really needed a walk, so off pup and I went.

This was from the bakery parking lot, not our
walk, but there are still a few grimy piles lingering-
yes, more will be coming but I can wait.

I ran and got the Halloween candy at CVD, BOGO (but inflated price) but I had some CVS Bucks that brought them to what I would have paid at the grocery store that had them on sale as well. I would have had to buy more at the grocery store to get the lower price, and I figured 8 bags, enough for 50 kids, or 30 kids and my husband, will be more than enough this year.
He was in the Reese's when he walked in the door
and will make me  open the other bag last.

I was hoping to buy some treat bags, but were all out, plus at Dollar Tree I could see it was crowded so no dice for me and didn't even step in.  Our town bakery  was in this same area and I couldn't resist getting a fresh baked loaf and calorie splurged on a butter cut out cookie. I needed this smile.

Picture from bakery web site-I ate mine before
I thought to take the picture.

Once home I read some blog posts and started capturing my day so far. You are completely stimulated by this excitement now aren't you. Dinner was leftover meatballs, leftover pulled pork-had to use it up, rice pilaf, steamed vegetable, and part of the French bread. I folded some thing left in the dryer, and started a load of kitchen towels before we settled in to watch a few episodes of Schitt's Creek and the British Baking Show-Japanese Week.

Saturday, October 31

Something from yesterday didn't settle quite right and I woke up a bit dodgy. A big glass of water and a couple Tylenol and I went back to bed for an hour and felt much better later. The day started with getting pup outside and fed, posting  Halloween/memory lane post, and reading a few others. After showering, I needed coffee, but the Keurig is on the not working cycle, and the other pot has been so slow, I decided to just go get a large coffee.  We needed bread, bananas, and a few other basics so off to Kwik Trip I went. It was quite windy, and the new prediction is not quite as warm as I was hoping for, but still not too bad in the sun. I picked up the Jack-o-Lantern pizza for later, got the things I wanted form Dollar Tree that I didn't an tot face the crowded store for yesterday such as the baggies, foil, cling wrap, and a sympathy card for a friend.

Back home, I tackled more on list my home list and set out to do some organizing in my closet. A few weeks of laundry just ending up in piles on my closet shelf. I also have clutter, things that just didn't get put away to the right places. Later lunch was carrots and hummus and apple slices. We still have a few of those gorgeous apples from our last orchard run two weeks ago.  Then got back to my tasks before meeting my daughter and friend for a birthday beverage. It was a bit chilly sitting outside, but the glasses of wine sure hit the spot. We decided to make a Trader Joe's run as well-her friend doesn't have one near her. They were going to make a vegan and gluten free pizza before going on their  evening Haunted Hosue/Hay ride activity, and new they could find the ingredients at TJ. All wearing masks, off we went.

Once home I got my haul put away. I realized I made a horrible error as I misread the time of my friends husbands visitation and knew I couldn't attend the service. I thought I would be able to make the beginning of it before it got crowded. The service, not visitation was 4:00-5:00. I'll need to mail my card and try to see her in the coming days or weeks if possible. What a time to lose a spouse with so many restrictions on time and numbers.  He wasn't doing well for a couple years, dealing with lifelong chronic kidney and liver disease, but even if expected, 56 is too young to leave a family behind. The last time I had seen him looking well was at her 50th birthday party, five years ago.

I cracked on. Then with sanitized hands, I got treats ready in grab and go baggies. I prepared 40, and if we got through most the first hour I can get another 10 ready,  but that means cutting into DH's stash. I walked pup who already was jittery at least grateful no doorbells this year.

Earlier I had washed blankets, ones we keep at the end of the sectional for TV watching, but  pup will lay on them. Let's  just say don't smell so fresh!  I had put them on the clothes line before meeting my daughter and were ready to come in. Look at our deck though. With all the nice sun this week, and snow melting everywhere else, we still had a few inches in spots, but tomorrow should all be gone.

DH got home about 5:15. He grabbed a couple pieces of candy and went to watch college football. he was in charge of making the pizza to eat when he decided he was hungry. I put a the candy in an old pumpkin bucket with a handle and used the Shepherd hook to hold. What do you think of my  sign? I'll be hanging out on the porch to see the  little goblins, but this keeps us distanced as this will be away from the porch. I was ready for any early Trick or Treaters by 5:30.

I'm going to call this a night. I'll play it by ear as to when I decide to turn out the lights and join DH inside for a movie and pizza. We'll set the clocks back before we go to bed as well.  I'll recap tomorrow if and how many treats we unloaded. I also hope to get a nice picture of the Halloween moon. Whatever you did the last few days, I hope you had a good one.

    1. He is a Reese's PB Cup fiend, and I always get at least two bags and use them last. We had a sller number than we are used to, but did not have to g inot his stash. unfortuanltey ther eis more left of the kids I like, so it wen tinot the freezer to save in small amounts. It is dangerous in the open.

  2. "I figured 8 bags, enough for 50 kids, or 30 kids and my husband, will be more than enough this year." LOL Isn't this always how we deal with DHs?
We didn't even put the light on as last year(no COVID)we had like 7 Trick or Treaters. We just have no kids in our neighborhood anymore as they have all aged out. Sad really....

    1. I can't go completley by the number of baggies I went thorugh-34, beasue I suspect a couple took more than one, bu tI thin I still had at least 25-30. I replenished in increment of 10 after I had a couple waves of kids in large groups, and I know next door is 5 kids alone. We'll always have Trick and Treaters as we so many hosues that are starter houses, and constanlty changing hands. We have three on our cul de Sac with young kids, and across the dtreet grandkids who stopped for treats.

  4. I'm so happy some of our neighbors followed suit, and put out treat bags with candy. Our kids are both way old, but missed Halloween so much. We drove around & looked at the lights/decorations & they did get out & pick up a bag of candy (they had on loosely described costumes). We also watched a movie & had pizza delivered (a super rare treat).

Frosted butter cookies are my krytponite. I had to really talk myself down from a trip to Panera yesterday. I was really hungry, but mostly I wanted a frosted pumpkin sugar cookie

    1. Nothing beats a hometown bakery making cookies with loads of real local butter! To be fair, I never cared if th eolder kids came aorund later, costumes or not. I think if they want to hold a fe more days of childhood, I wil support that! I've had some of the best exchanges with the older kids coming after the young kids pretty much were done, and they got more leftover out of my hands! I never had an impolite teen, and always got thank you.s I've had many excorting younger kids and wou;d try and push candy on them as well with or without a bag or bucket. I wold thnk them for taking the youngsters around and I could see that they apprecaited being acknowledged.

  5. Nice job on the trick or treat candy set up. I have some friends who set up some bowls of candy on their porch bench. He also had a motion activated "Happy Halloween" in a haunted voice. He caught some reactions on his ring door camera. Pretty funny, LOL.

    1. I like your friends set-up. The only thing that didn't work so well is pup seemed to be able to sense or smell, and that was even worse than when I handed out candy and he woudl just come with me to the door. He barked ocnstanlty last night, where in normla years, he just wanted to see the kids, so stopped once the door opended. I would never have imagined how sensitive he was.
