Positively Tuesday-When Sun Shines Through

Photo from last month, but the sunrise is still glorious.

With time change and the days moving closer to the winter solstice and so far this week being filled with sun, I'm getting in-house sun beams in new places and at new times of the day. It's like a little treasure hunt. Working now downstairs, I'm not getting the glare I was getting upstairs, but I'm getting that nice morning sun. I will soak it in when it comes, as day by day we lose a few minutes of light. Soon, without the lights on, it will be completely dark down here by 4:00 as these are east facing windows. Outside, it will be completely dark by 5:00. If there is a bit of positive with being required to work from home, most days I can sneak in a few minutes for a walk outside with pup, even if I have to don headlamp or flashlight and take him again in the dark.

I need to stay on top of cleaning a bit better though. Those rays of sunshine highlight wherever I have dust that I blissfully ignore in the evening when I am off work. No excuse since I am home now during the day and can't ignore it what is visible. Just like laundry. No reason to let it stack up in the bin when I can throw a load in in 30 seconds. One would think my house should be immaculate-sadly not the case. I will take a day mid-week off at some point, for the specific purpose of deep cleaning. Then, that will give myself permission to truly lean into the cold and sunshine scarce days, leaving my house on long walks when it is daylight, and immerse myself in a book, movie or television show once evening comes. Now, to find a less chaotic day on the work calendar to take this day.

  1. My daughter has deemed November to be deep cleaning month so the house will be nice and clean for the holidays. She is shampooing the carpets right now and they look so much better. I need to dust more often than I do. It was easier when I was younger and had more get up and go. LOL

    1. Could I borrow her? This beautiful weather had me outside finishing my work day until the sunlight was gone. My nerves are shot so hoping that I use th eenregy to clean and feel at least good about my livings space.

  2. I have only one meeting day (with EMEA colleagues, it's actually supposed to be a no meeting day at our US office due to the election), so I have big plans to be productive & stay calm. Let's see how that goes. ;-)

I'm now spending so much time at home that I definitely see all of the areas that need to be deep cleaned! It was much easier to ignore, pre COVID and WFH

  3. I try to tell my mom a clean house is the sign of a misspent life, but the quote is an immaculate house is the sign of a misspent life. I live at home so we differ on levels of cleanliness, but sometimes my bedroom is so bad, even I have had enough! I cleaned my underwear drawer this past weekend - it was so messy! I hope that next year is the last time we have to do the fall back and spring forward stuff with the clocks, it is annoying!

    1. My daughter left her house before moving to college in August 2019 a mess, came hoe in MArch and added to the mess, then when her stuff finally got home, a mess. She was so busy working two jobs nothing changed over the summer. I hope she feels like you and will spend the days before Thanksgiving cleaning.

  4. I can relate! My home was much cleaner when I worked full time outside the home. No excuse for it but not motivated to do much about it either especially since no one will be coming inside for who knows how long!

    1. I understand the apathy part-but I should appreciate my home more since I am home so much, and get it to rights. The sun hits the dust and residue just right.

  5. It gets dark here very early. Our little kids have to run home from school to make it home before dark.

  6. Since I have not worked, my house is not so clean. I hate regular time. I want DST year round. In the summer here, the setting sun blinds me about 5 pm to 5:30 pm. Now, I am blinded at 4 pm to 4:30 pm by light shining through the fanlight on the door. I lean one way and when the sun blinds me, I lean the other way. The fanlight is the only window in the room, so I have not covered it.

    1. I won't complain about the light-I love the natural sun, but it can get bright at times.

  7. What a beautiful photo. I am now officially in light mourning and will be until mid January when I start noticing an increase in sunlight.

  8. Our house is always full of dust and the winter sunshine always shows it off. I blame our open fires! x

    1. With our unusually warm weather, I really should take advantage and clean my widow while still light out. I can work a little later into the evening. Lord knows I'm not going anywhere!

  10. I love the colour of the setting sun at this time of year, but yes, I've noticed a few spider webs! Yikes! I hate cleaning, so I'll just point those out to our cleaners next time they're here.
