Missing Snowmen but Not Missing Snow-Blogmas Day 19

We had rain last night-real rain and not a frosty ice snow mix which we often get in December. I swear my grass is turning green again. Honestly, a white Christmas in my part of the world is nice, but with things as they are and so much staying at home, it sure is nice being able to go for a walk without hauling through multiple feet of snow. We've had plenty of non-white Christmases over the years, and then usually pay for it with a January and February that are brutal. While I don't miss snow, I do miss seeing it, if that makes sense. I miss seeing the snowmen that move into my neighbors yards-and ours when the kids were younger. I love seeing the snow forts and snowball walls kids erect in the park, and occasionally I get to witness a good snowball fight.

Maybe this will help me prepare mentally for a future not in Minnesota in the winter. Well, at least not a December in Minnesota. I could care less about the joys of snow after Christmas, particularly if there is green again much earlier. I still remember how I couldn't get over how green and lush the English countryside was in March. We're looking at either another round of snow storms, or muddy brown blobs of landscape or a combination of both. I remember DC in the spring when I travelled for work was always so lush as well. No offense though, I'm not sure I could do the deep south. I found a smattering of pictures of December's or at least winters past on my blog history. That might need to tide me over for this year.
My daughter did really well yesterday and seems to be on a good path for a quick recovery. With so much sleeping, she had a hard time sleeping last night ad was up reading a few graphic novels when I peeked in on her. I'll make sure she has another good dose of ibuprofen, and have prescription as well on hand should she need it as  the information said the second and third days can be more uncomfortable. As many of you suggested, good to stay ahead of pain. She was so hungry though, but her numb mouth made her a bit of a messy eater, which she thought was funny. I took, at her request prior to  the extraction, a couple minutes of video as she wanted to see herself funny. She was a little dazed and confused, but not really goofy. My older daughter drive my son home after his procedure when he was home form college. He insisted he was driving, and driving fast.

Today will be a regular type of December Saturday. There's the  house to be cleaned and the dog to walk-who is also more himself again. I'd like to get any remaining gifts wrapped and at some point, drop off a few presents at my MIL for other family members. Plans are that we will see her on Sunday, and she'll see the others before. If you are reading from out east, how did the snow  impact you? Are you buried in? Anyone else getting rain? Whatever your day brings, I hope you enjoy it.

  1. That last picture is really beautiful! And I know what you mean about snow - it's beautiful to look at, and lovely for the first couple of days, but after that I'm ready for it to be gone. Or, in our case, it can stay as long as it wants in the mountains but not down here. I was living in D.C. when I was pregnant with my first and we flew to England for a holiday and then up to Wales to see family. And my goodness, I couldn't believe how green Wales was - but then there's a reason for that isn't there. It never stops raining! I'm glad your daughter is doing ok but how funny that your son thought he was driving. That's a good one to bring up at party time!

    1. That picture was taken outside the Ordway Theater in downtown St Paul after my sister and I went to see White Christmas, Her husband won the tickets and he decided she would have more fun with one of us! I guess everyone reacts differently to the gas or sedation. That is a lot of flying for one holiday!

  2. We got 12 inches. A little over an hour's drive North of us got 40 inches which is CRAZY and a record for 1 day snowfall/storm there! lol
I don't mind snow as long as I don't have to go drive in it(though having lived up North since 1984 I know how to drive in snow). Growing up in southern VA you could go outside on Xmas day without any kind of coat on and in short sleeves. The Summers though? No thanks!!

    1. 40 inches at one time is crazy-hard to even shovel out the door. I like the idea of sweater weather, but easy to get around with no snow. I think tha tis part of why the UK intrigues me so much-so looking for similar here. Yes, the snow coudcome, but it is short lives and life goes on.

    1. As they said might happen, she was more bothered last night with discomfort, but not horrible pain so that's good.

  4. No offense taken. I could not do winters in Minnesota. We in the South love the lack of snow. We do get all excited by flakes and know if it does snow, even two feet like we had in 1993, it will all go away in a day or week and we can go back to wearing sandals and shorts. Pictures of fresh snow from the North are pretty and welcome.

    1. Since we likely would stay through Christmas, I am happy with no snow December 26th onward!

  5. Pretty photos. I'm so glad your daughter did well yesterday and I hope she won't be in much pain over the weekend. I got my wrapping done yesterday so I'm all set. Have a great weekend Sam :)

    1. She's still doing well, though more discomfort last night. The overly liquidy food with the ibuprofen made her a bit nauseous, but she's been a trooper.

  6. We got a little bit of snow here this week... about 3 inches total. The kids were able to go out and play and it was perfect for building a snowman. (I posted a pic of Popeye the snowman on my blog today). Today I am still resting and just puttering around when I get some energy. Our quarantine is officially over as of last night. Bill went to Walmart this morning to get stocking stuffers, but I plan on staying home for the most part for the next few days. No rain here although we might get some tonight. Hope your daughter recovers well and that you have a great weekend!

    1. That is cute idea for the snow man! I will be home most of the week as well. When I hear about families quarantining, it seems to go fat-which it is not I am sure when in it, as I remember. I'm glad no one got really sick in our hosue.

  7. I am glad your daughter is doing well. As for snow, they say it is going to be a dry winter this year over here. I love snow and was hoping for what we had in 2016. We were snowed in for two days and that almost never happens here in Istanbul. Only twice in 20 years.

  8. I too like snow at Christmas time, then it can come down with the rest of the trimmings.

  9. I grew up in the Midwest and have many snow memories. Our daughter felt deprived growing up without snow, but I don't miss it! California winters are very nice. The only thing I have to worry about here are the wildfires.

    1. Thanks for stopping by! My son is in CA and doe snot miss Minnesota. If he wants to snowboard, he can drive to the mountains. The wildfires though-he's dealt with those since moving there.

  10. No snow yet but my husband and I love snow days! We live westcoast in Canada and I'm still hoping it'll snow for Christmas but we'll see! It's been super cold lately. Hope you have the lovely Saturday evening :)

    1. Welcome from Canada! I am losing hope there will be snow at Christmas as it is supposed to be warm most of the week. Perhaps some snow later tonight, but then it will be gone.

  11. Glad DD is fine- one of my clients is having all his teeth pulled the end of December so I told him at least he can enjoy the holiday food. It's a bit chilly here for Florida but supposed to be in the 70s Christmas eve which will be good for us- we're going to meet outside at DD's house for a couple of hours and then my sis will spend the night with me. Nephew won't be here- he lives with 5 guys and people in and out and decided it's not safe to visit his mother or me until after the vaccinations. My GSons are quarantining starting today. What a wild year. I just posted to Anne we are planning a Christmas in July for this summer- should be fun if we can coordinate dates!

    1. I am hoping when things are safe, my son will be able to come for a week or so and make up for all the time we all could not be together this year. I also hope his industry comes back and he is too busy because he is working to come as it has been an awful year for him financially and just as his career was really starting to build.

  12. We got the 10 inches as predicted on Wednesday (I replied to your response that I did in fact make it home safely but I think the internet ate it) and a few inches more since then. I woke up to a dusting today and they have some sort of mixed precip/snow for the rest of the year lol, including 1-3 inches on Christmas Day. It’s lovely now that the roads are bare. It’s still coating the trees and bushes and people’s Christmas lights and even I can admit it’s pretty. We went downtown last night to walk around and look at the lights. I wore a mask to keep my face warm but hardly saw any people except for near the ice skating rink. We went to Mt Washington, where you can see the entire city of Pittsburgh, the three rivers and the point they make at the confluence. The Tree of Lights at Point State Park, the baseball and football stadiums, the weather beacon atop the Gulf Tower that turns different colors according to the conditions and the old Horne’s store that has lights in the design of a Christmas tree on the corner and two sides of the building. If you’ve watched any amount of hallmark movies, you’ve seen it along with the tree down at PPG place, they use the pictures often! We walked a little in downtown itself, picked up two pizzas at our favorite little spot and headed home. It really was frigid, but much needed for my soul! JoAnn

    1. I'm glad you did respond that you got home safe! Can't take th emom out of us right! Your walk sounds just beautiful. I don't suppose the small rink downtown will go up, but ht elights were still on. There was a little hoopla thing downtown yesterday, but not like other years. My neighbor brought her grandkids and had a socially spread out horse drawn wagon ride. Now I need to look out for those views when I watch Hallmark.
