Positively Tuesday-A Week of Simple Pleasures

Quote found here.

Brrr-winter has decided it was not ready to leave. I had gloves on to walk the dog yesterday and today is colder.. He's happy as a furry clam though, poking around on the frosty ground. As an ignorant and impatient  plant person, silly me planted flower seeds in pots and transferred the   little growths from the sunflower and Forget-me-nots. I suspect everything will now die and the seeds now won't grow. That was not a simple pleasure, but the rest of my list of 10 things in the last week, did make me smile.

  1. Found remains from the New Zealand Coffee my daughter brought me back last February, you know, when the world was still travelling. Not only did it mean I could go another day before going to the grocery store another day, or get a take out coffee two days in a row, it reminded me that travel will happen again-maybe within the remainder of the year.
  2. Last Thursday at our optional  Lunch Buddy meet-up, we recruited a retired supervisor in our unit, who is now a yoga instructor, to do a Zoom Fatigue  session with us. She's such a cool and nice lady-we all miss working with her. We were going to give her an honorarium, but she would not accept and requested we make donations to food shelves instead.
  3. Yes, a food one. I love French onion potato chip dip-much more than I like sour cream and onion potato chips, which are my favorite.  Our local store as part of a 100th anniversary sale had  the large containers on sale for just $1. I calorie splurged and bought some with potato chips. I don't think I've had cip dip in nearly two years.
  4. And, another food one. Twice on the last two Sunday's DH made burgers for us-no cooking for me. Grilling burger, steaks, and ribs is his kind of cooking and he does it well.
  5. When I went to the church garage sale, I had  a nice catch-up with the youth director who I have not seen in person in over a year. I left the youth committee when my daughter was a senior as I was pretty stretched, and she was another  parent on the committee at that time. After the departure of the last youth director, she was recruited to take the job she was made for! It was fun hearing about her kids, who I think of as preschoolers and toddlers, but no, range from 8-17 now!
  6.  Saturday was an absolutely glorious spring day. When walking the pup, it was so fun to see the park, filled, but spread out with people. The playground had lots of children, the basketball court was in full play mode, and there were both just groups of kids and teens, and other groups of adults lounging around or playing frisbee, or throwing  baseballs. Yesterday afternoon, no one.
  8. We enjoyed our daughters concert on Sunday, after a rough sound start on the streaming link, from the comfort of our own home.
  9. I purged a few items form the kitchen that were lingering on the counter for months. I honestly couldn't imagine anyone wanting to use these items, so I trashed them-and then took out the trash so no second thoughts.
  10. And lastly, I made  list yesterday of all the calls I need to make this week for in-person appointments after Saturday when I get vaccine number two. I'm just going to use sick or vacation as appropriate for the appointment and not even worry about when I can get in around my schedule. This includes a meet-up with friends, probably still outside in a restaurant, but a restaurant none the less.!
Now, I hope I can get said appointments made as I'm sure hair appointments dentists, and my sleep mouth guard fitting will be backed up. That's Ok-just getting them scheduled is progress. How about all of you? Are you seeing more signs of your life resuming to a regular pace? I hesitate to use the word normal. Have you put off things like I have, even if they opened and are now ready to be in a small spaces and close contact with others? Let's hear from you all and have a good Tuesday.

  1. We need to get to the dentist, that seems to be the biggest mental hurdle for me. But as a whole, we’ve gotten haircuts, a mammogram, a surgery, glasses/contacts, well visits, pedicures and honestly, felt safe during them. However, my husband’s work never shut down, I was off only three months, my son two months, and my daughter worked seasonally while she was still going hybrid to school. Like it or not, we’ve had to be out in public and life kinda has gone on for us. Masked up, of course. Very limited outings for “fun” stuff. I haven’t eaten out since early this year bc I felt so guilty, anxious afterwards. I stopped in Walmart after work last night for lunch stuff and pet food and was shocked at the amount of people not wearing masks. I was definitely in the minority with one on. I’ve been doing grocery pickup and was unaware at how bad it’s become! Meanwhile, local schools have been shutting down and we suspect my co-worker and her family have Covid currently. They are awaiting results but she continued to work Friday and Saturday while not feeling well-which makes me even more thankful that I was off. It’s supposed to be 65 today and snow tomorrow. I have one pot of flowers on my porch that I will bring in tonight. There are a few small sunflowers growing in some decorative rocks under our picnic table from stray bird seeds I suppose so I’m going to dig them up and bring them inside for a few days then transplant in a better spot along the fence line. So much excitement here, I can hardly contain myself lol. My only plans for the rest of the week are work and Kohl’s to get prom jewelry for my daughter, something my dad graciously offered to buy her, and to make a few returns. Happy Tuesday! JoAnn

    1. I just forgot that I didn't make the eye exam appointment-thanks for the reminder. My husbands work never stopped either, and my daughter worked both school age child care-with 9 kids in her care every day, and worked in a restaurant. Through spring and summer, we were vigilant about them changing clothes and washing them immediately, but that waned over time and then it was uber handwashing, and avoiding public spaces as best we could. So you are in a state that lifted the masks? I am going to make a list of where I refuse to go for at least the remainder of the year. I refuse to spend money in states and stores that could care less about keeping people healthy. We cross state lines for our cabin, but I will do m y shopping on this side of the border as I know people will be ignoring the masks in WI.

    2. We are not in a state that has lifted the masks but I am in a very red county in western PA, which sadly should tell you all you need to know.

    3. And were they first in line to get their vaccines? I love that hypocrisy, but I guess if they are going to be spreading their breath everywhere, I guess I want them to be firs tin line as they clearly don't care about others.

  2. We live in Southern Illinois and I was told when we moved here not to plant anything until after Mothers Day. Most years I end up feeling behind because our weather is usually so nice but we're expecting snow today and a low temperature of 27 tonight. So this is actually one year I'm glad I waited. I had my routine dental exam the end of March but I haven't had my hair cut since last June. I need to make an appointment for that but may wait another month or so.

    1. That I guess is what I should have known as well. Well, I had something to do Sunday and maybe the seeds will still be fine.

  3. We are always told not to plant out until after the Saint de Glace, which is mid-May - and of course I always ignore it and end up buying twice after the first lot freeze!

  4. I hope your plants will make it. Your week sounds good otherwise. No plans here yet until two weeks after my next vaccine and then I'll still probably keep putting things off for a while until things are a little more under control.

    1. When I read 60% effective shot one, and 5% two weeks after shot 2, I slowed down my scheduling to after May 8th-my freedom day, I've dubbed it.

  5. Yesterday was a beautiful spring day, today winter is back with a freeze tonight and possible record low temp. I'm so ready for spring to stick around. My wife and I are getting out a lot and have a vacation planned in two weeks. As we are both fully vaccinated we are feeling much better about the whole pandemic.

    1. I'm happy for you planning a vacation and please enjoy!! I read we had a drop yesterday in positivity rates and hospitalizations in my state, so maybe with each week, it will get better and better for all.

  6. I'm itching to plant out but the danger of frost isn't over yet so I'm putting my seedlings in the sun and taking them back inside at night. x

    1. I threw towels over the pots with the little sprouts. I hope that was enough.

  7. You had some wonderful pleasures this week. I am finding joy in small things is just as joyous as the pleasures big things bring. I guess it is just the new perspective covid has given all of us.
I am not yet ready to be in small spaces with others even though I am fully inoculated .

    1. My intolerance is going inot places with no masks-it may only be optics eventually, but I think this history of spreading germs when people are knowingly sick, people shopping with colds, and other things let alone possible Covid, I'll stick to places for a long while that require masks. I wish a family dinner we have for our nephew was a week later, but it is April 29th. I feel a bit stupid going when we have been so vigilante, and that's on me.

  8. It is gorgons here but you can't trust Idaho weather. I hope you little plants are okay. I think we are beyond frost here but i don't plan on planting my seedlings for at least another week.

    1. I probably will pay for pushing it. A nice weather day does that to me-I long for the nice weather and likely am at fault for the cold turn.

  9. Shops, hairdresser's etc opened here last week, but I haven't been anywhere. KL has been to the pub with a friend ( outdoor tables only). K and A are coming for a barbecue at the weekend, so all 6 of us will be together at last.

  10. If you threw a towel over seeds and pots, they won't die. I got my second covid vac today. After the two weeks, I am going to ask for antibody test before I go out. But, we are not giving up the mask!

  11. Oh, do I have appointments to make!--cardiologist, ENT, gastroenterology, oral surgeon, Retina specialist, podiatrist and several surgeries. who needs a haircut? Nope, need to live. I plan to wear a mask and avoid indoors until at least the end of the year. I got second vaccine today.

    1. Well, I am going to risk life after vaccination and get a hair cut. Safety protocols are in place still, so that with vaccines, I feel OK about a return to a few more things.
