Saturday Schmatterings

I'm heading to my SIL's to make lefse in a bit. I'd rather drive myself, but my MIL has stuff to bring and wants to drive. The weather might turn snowy again and I think she wanted me to be prepared to drive home, but didn't want to say that. I'm making efforts, but I really don't like not being on my own schedule. I was clear I needed to be home 3:00 ish to take care of dog as we have plans. Other Schmatterings for this Saturday.

Baking

I'm doing too much of it I fear as I eat more than I would if it's not around. I made those bananas I mentioned into three small loaves, froze one for my daughter and will bring the others with to share with the family this morning. Problem solved. Confession- I polished off over the course of the week one of the pumpkin breads made last Sunday so I've eaten my fill of quick breads.

YouTube

It's a good thing I'm going back to work. I've gotten a bit YouTube addicted. Don't recommend any channels to me- I follow enough already. It'll get worse when holiday content comes as I'm a sucker for it. I can decorate and bake (see above) and cook like the best of them, so it's not a risk of damaging my self esteem. I just really like the holiday season. With November so dreary, I welcome the Christmas greenery, wreaths, trees and sparkle.

Movies in Theatres

Our local theater has been practically empty when we've gone so I've felt pretty safe sitting for a couple hours. It's actually for sale, but no updates in if it has been or not. We saw the bond movie about a month ago, DH's choice. The girls saw Dune when college kid was home. Nothing's jumping out at me, though I think the new Ghost Busters looks kind of clever. What's your thoughts on going to movies now? Have you seen any lately and what's your review?

All the Medical Stuff

I had a video consult to refill my Omeprazole on Thursday. I have to have a blood test to see if my magnesium and Vitamin D levels are good because apparently prolonged use can decrease both. I've also been referred for an updated Dexa scan for osteoporosis, another issue prolonged use of Omeprazole can lead. They were happy I had my booster shot for Covid and that I got the flu vaccine. I can time the blood tests with the other things in my blood that are monitored, but quite frankly, was deferred for quite a while during the height of Covid. I have the lab for blood work on Sunday- quite odd the labs open, but won't need to miss work. I can get the Dexa scan scheduled for anytime in the next year. Oh, and I have a dentist appointment next week too. Like I said, I'm following up on all the Medical stuff.

That's my Schmatterings for the week. Hopefully our plans to join friends for music and happy hour won't be messed up with bad weather or DH's work schedule. If so, I think we'll just order pizza using DH's anniversary gift card and watch a movie. I hope your Saturday has some good things happening.

  1. I eat more of the quick breads than I want to also. Freezing them is a good idea. We’ve talked about going to the movies, but haven’t done so yet. If I knew we would be the only ones there I would go I. A heartbeat. :)

    1. It really is something that case numbers and hospitalizations are still so high. With being triple vaccinated, I feel like I'm safe and safe to others, but a crowded theater doesn't sound good now.

  2. Hope you are able to join friends for music & happy hour - that sounds really nice!

We've got the last club games of the season (for one kiddo) this weekend. Nick has two ref games signed up, which is great for him. Sam has a total of four soccer games. It will be nice to wrap up the season, at least for one person.

    1. We had a good time yesterday at the bar and grill. We have low entertainment standards. It sounds like you're ready for a soccer break but so much better than last year.

  3. Hope you have a good time with family making lefse. Sounds delicious! Don't think I have ever tried it before. Your pumpkin bread looks so good.
I think the first and last movie we have seen in the theater since covid was Black Widow back in July. Splurged on the screen x showing which was supposed to be more immersive, but we didn't really care for it, so doubt if we try screen x again. I wanted to see Eternals, but reviews aren't that great.
Glad you are getting your medical stuff scheduled, and I hope you get a good report.
Hope you have a fun weekend.

    1. Now we really liked Black Widow
. I'm not rushing to the Eternals either. Lefse is very Norwegian- think tortilla made with potatoes. Traditional in our families is to top with butter and sugar and roll.

  4. That pumpkin bread looks very tasty!
Our cinema is really quiet as well. I'm off to see The French Dispatch again next week - Wes Anderson isn't everyone's cup of tea but I adore his stuff! xxx

  5. No movies, no baking, still catching up on medical. The only way I can bake is to do it in stages or have Tommy heavily involved. By stages, I mean get all the dry ingredients in a bowl and store until the next day and finish. Getting Tommy involved will be okay and he will be happy to help if it means food...lol. I just asked Tommy and he said, "Sure." So, that is settled. When I make pumpkin bread, it will be made with sweet potatoes, so sweet potato bread. I try to give away things I bake except for one of a trio of breads.

I watch little you tube, so I am safe. But, when I do I keep watching things and come up an hour later. Maybe once a week I get lost in there.

    1. You would not have liked to make lefse. We stood and rolled and then cooked each piece for three hours, and that's with two stations, two griddles.

  6. This is why I try not to bake too often as I eat it. I have NO self control over baked goods, I mean none!

    1. I left one bread at my SIL's, sent one home with the other and froze for my daughter. That's the only way I should bake.

  7. I saw Dune - it was fine, nothing that thrilling. I'm excited about House of Gucci, as it looks campy as hell, hee hee.

I can't bake anymore because I eat it all! You're not alone, Sam!

    1. Yes- I forgot about the Gucci movie. I'll likely enjoy but my husband, not a chance.

  8. My other half consumes any baking like filling a black hole however - that being said - I manage to scoff a fair amount too. He stays stick thin and I seem to round off in generous curves. Hmmm. The universe is not fair!!

    1. My other half seems to only like things fresh baked, so after his first indulgence, it sits for me to eat too much of. He alos stays thin.

  9. I had to laugh at the Youtube comment - I've started going down that rabbithole too and it ain't good!
