Remember those jeans I got for $4.99 a few weeks back? Truth be told, they fit, but wow, not comfortable over a bit of time in the tummy area. That is where I need to tone and shift. These are going to be my reality check jeans. The scale now says I've lost 5.5 pounds, but things that should fit comfortably, often do not. Weight is one thing, where the weight sits is another. Still, they did zip and button without major acrobatics so it's something.
I need to keep making sure I'm giving myself honest probes on my getting in shape journey. Playing games with the scale won't improve my endurance, my clothing comfort, or how I feel about my appearance. It was lovely walking yesterday with pup. My daughter came over for a movie night. She can't eat popcorn now, so it made it up easy to skip popping a batch and loading with the yummy butter topping. I sipped on cold water instead, having eaten a regular dinner and not needing snacking calories at night.
That's the bad habit I need to get real on. I try to keep the time of my calorie intake between 11-7, or 12-8, sort of an intermittent fasting, and not exceeding 1500-1600 calories, but my feet without my brain thinking stroll into that kitchen and grab a nibble or five too often when I'm not even hungry. But, I'm not making excuses, just need to keep being honest with myself. Thanks for all the encouragement. No one's going to see big dramatic changes, but progress is there none the less.
A 5.5 pound loss is great Sam!
ReplyDeleteThe only suggestion I have is to stop focusing on 'diet' and look at it more as a lifestyle change or a healthier eating plan. You want to set up a sustainable change. Out of everyone I know that has lost weight and kept it off did so by permanently changing their eating habits. And that takes time. The ones that did "diets' haven't been able to keep the weight off.
Have a wonderful Saturday!!
Honestly, by not really concentrating on trying to lose weight, using the termdiet, I get complacent. I know it's a lifestyle change for ongoing health, but I need to break bad habits first to get to the lifestyle change so using several months as a diet period is to help remember the why I'm trying to stop the bad habits.
DeleteThat makes perfect sense.
DeleteI too have to really focus on changes I want to make to my lifestyle. I think it gets harder as I get older and more set in my ways.
You said it! Everything seems harder with each year, but I know I'll be better off!
DeleteEvening snacking (really, snacking in general) is a habit I'm working to break as well. I have two teens & they snack so much in the evening, which is fine for them, & not at all fine for me. I'm trying to get back into the habit of brushing my teeth right after dinner.
ReplyDeleteGood work on the loss! I've had the reverse progress, after the ski week & long weekend threw me off my routine. Need to get back into my better habits.
Teen boys just burn everything they eat. I know I need more water, so will start there before grabbing a snack.
DeleteI was doing so well till, I sabotaged myself for the umpteenth time. My feet has the same problem. Every day, I find an excuse not to exercise. Gotta stop this.
ReplyDeleteI pushed an extra two block today, and was happy. I've got to get out of the sabatage mode. We can do this!
DeleteGood for you and keep going!
ReplyDeleteThis week I am trying to do better; you inspire me.
It's baby steps and I'm sad I let myself get here. That won't change things so starting somewhere.
DeleteI know the feeling of trying to replace old habits with new. I'm trying to remember that sometimes when I think I need a snack, I really just need to drink something.
ReplyDeleteContinued good wishes on your progress.
You're so right. Thirst and hunger are confused at times. I appreciate the good wishes.
DeleteThey say you shouldn't buy sweatpants don't they because dammit they S-T-R-E-T-C-H! Jeans keep things uncomfortably real!
ReplyDeleteThese jeans are cute and flattering, so definitely a goal to breath in them! No leggings outside the house.
DeleteEchoing what Lori said. I lost a good deal of weight in my early 20's, (right after college) never to put it back on, by embracing a total lifestyle change. Part of this meant I wrote down every. thing. I. ate. At the end of the day, I would be amazed at how mindless some of my eating was. (I applied this method to my spending as well.)
ReplyDeleteA trick I use when I think I want to snack in front of a show is to pour myself a glass of water in one of my favorite glasses. (Mason jar style with handle--I only like them for water or iced coffee.) For what it's worth, I find sipping room temperature water much nicer than iced or cold water. It seems to be easier on my system.
Still, 5.5 lbs!!!! But, you are not a number on the scale. Stay healthy, and feel good about yourself. Enjoy your Saturday.
I like the nice glass strategy. And thanks for the kindness. I can be rough on myself.
DeleteI have never had a problem with my weight (but plenty of other things) and had 2 c-sections at 38 and 41 years old. Now at 55, I'm finding that everything is shifting downward and all my pants are now tight in the lower abdomen, despite my regular Pilates classes. I'm thinking dresses all year around ;)
ReplyDeleteLeggings have been my friend but will not be office attire. Yes, dresses.
DeleteThat's a fab result with the weightloss, Sam. Well done. xxx
