I've nothing new to share recipe wise, but in trying to get better ( seriously, I am trying) at food photography, I thought I'd recap my Monday and Tuesday with intentions of loads of pictures, including what I ate. I laugh thinking about Vix and her term Instagram Wanker. I guess that's what I'll be. I'm still getting used to Instagram, though I'd love to have you come see me there too. Not loads, but I snapped a few.
Nice morning weather. |
I skipped out for a power walk without him. A quick shower, coffee number two, and off I commuted to my office, now large travel mug in hand, and started work by 7:30. Mondays are typically busy anyway, but with two added meetings and covering the data system help desk, plus approving frantic spending by grantees, I barely got a bathroom break in before 12:30. I skimmed Facebook and Blog rolls while I waited for documents to load, or a report to pull up. I know, I shouldn't try to multi task but I get bored in those minutes. made the most of a 45 minute break, taking pup outside with my lunch, Mac and cheese and a couple clementines. I also threw chicken drumsticks in the crockpot on low, to later BBQ. I put a load of laundry in the washer too.
Lot's of orange going on. |
My daughter was hungry for spaghetti, so I let her do her thing. She had to leave at 5:00 for work.Things slowed by 4:00, when many school personnel that I deal with, are done for the day. I slipped in a walk with pup, and put potatoes in the microwave. But at 4:30 I was in a long call trying to explain why I rejected a $10,000 request for items not even remotely eligible with a particular funding. 45 minutes later and I think she might have gotten it, but that pushed me back. By 6:15, I declared my work day done, and finished supper prep, BBQ chicken, twice baked potatoes, garlic green beans. I made my daughter's leftovers into baked spaghetti for Tuesday night, cleaned up the kitchen and slipped outside with a book for about 30 minutes, then another short walk with pup. Back inside, I hung up items that I don't put in the dryer, and did a load of towels before watching an episode of Call the Midwife, then going to bed.
I already had plated to drumsticks and two halves of potato. I've got four legs to debone and will use with later. I used up miscellaneous dips in the potatoes. |
Tuesday began pretty much as a repeat of Monday. I had to throw the towels in the dryer- I hate line dried towels. I was able to get a 11:00 stretch break in though, and made myself some sourdough toast with peanut butter, suddenly ravenous.
Meeting times were odd, so later at 1:45 before a 2:00 meeting started, I had a substantial snack/ lunch of an apple, string cheese, and crackers. No skipping out for afternoon early walk, but I was able to use my hand weights during a video in a meeting. I went with my other daughter to see a house. Ugh- not the one. But, should the next owner ever need to hide, say the evidence of a crime, there's loads of opportunity.
We drowned the disappointment with Caribou iced tea and coffee. Once home, I reheated the spaghetti and roasted a pan of vegetables. My daughter took off with a friend, but then they came back to eat, then left again. I ended up dozing in the couch, but hauled myself to brush my teeth and get to bed when my daughter got home about midnight.
On the food front, I can't wait for the local bounty. I wish we had more right now and I'd try and follow Vix lead. If you follow her, you'll have read about her wonderful Waste Not box, loaded with vegetables for just £1.50. She loaded her post with mouth watering deliciousness that would turn the most die hard carnivore vegetarian. I wouldn't do justice to anything but would have fun trying- go here to read and see. Do you have access to these kinds of goodie boxes where you live?
I love being able to eat from my back yard or the farmers market this time of year. So far, it's been perfect weather here for growing. Everything is looking good. I planted a bit too much salad mix so we have our fill of that with plenty to share.
ReplyDeleteOur local farmers market opens Saturday. I'm not sure what I'll find but excited.
DeleteI so remember fondly the summer of COvid, that I would dose on the sofa while hubby watched the news. I have not done that once since moving into this house. the shop is too busy.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine you sit at all. Just move and move until you eventually fall into your bed.
DeleteFirst time visiting your blog. I enjoyed reading a day in your life. Very similar to the rest of us. We do have access to goodie boxes here. They are quite pricey but filled with lots of seasonal fruits and veggies.
ReplyDeleteMy life is pretty routine. I appreciate you reading and commenting. We just don't even have much discounted groceries at all other than the Wal-Mart bakery rack
DeleteMy Romaine bolted before we ate any. The front porch is too hot and I cannot get into the back yard. I may plant some on the side of the house where the carport is. The other side of the house is too sunny and hot!
ReplyDeleteI have too much time to sit. But, I remember days when sitting for a bit and reading was a luxury.
I imagine the sun is so hot some days that just being outside is too much- can't imagine the poor lettuce leaves.y brain is often too occupied to concentrate on reading.
DeleteI giggled at the commute to your office. If we have those sort of boxes around here, I’ve never seen them. I’m not even sure where the closest farmers market is these days. I love the sneak peak into your life, I’m just nebby like that! My Monday and Tuesday were pretty similar, up at 7:00, enjoy my coffee, do a variety of chores. Between the two mornings I wet swiffered, washed dishes, washed clothes, washed my hair, texted out some birthday wishes, made spaghetti, chicken and stuffing, added some chicken, soy sauce and egg to a leftover container of fried rice to make it more interesting. Took out the garbage. Left for work around 10:10, clocked into work by 10:25 and worked til 7:30. I tend to just crash when I get home. Monday I was especially tired, but Tuesday I called my dad around 10 pm and talked til about 11:30. He’s somehow a night owl and an early bird and that’s the best time for me to not have any distractions and be able to have good conversation. That’s a fairly typical day for me. The bulk of my productivity comes before work and very little gets done after. JoAnn
ReplyDeleteI try and get little snippets done during the day. It helps a little. I almost can hardly remember my real commuting life and how it functioned.
DeleteThanks so much fro the shout-out, Sam! You're welcome for dinner any time.
ReplyDeleteI do like that photo of your coffee with the colourful blooms behind it. xxx
I get so many thoughts from other bloggers so I want to recognize where inspiration strikes. If I find myself in Walsall, or I'm heading for Birmingham, I'll give you a hail!
