Yesterday was one of those perfect summer days. It hit 80 but without the humidity and stickiness. This past week, joys have been summer centric, the best of summer I would say.
- Outdoor concert sitting in a shady spot, seeing friends and familiar faces made for a nice summer evening.
- All three of us girls had Friday afternoon off. We had lunch together, then DD1 and I went to a couple garage sales. I won't give away until Thursday the big find, but it was a winner.
- It's community theater time in Minnesota and we saw Rent Friday. Not a joy, we got caught behind a train and I waited too long to figure out we should turn around and do an alternative route. We got there a bit late, but the side section was empty so we could slip in without being noticed.
- I finally got the blueberries made into jam on Saturday. Why I procrastinated is beyond me.
- My daughter and I tag teamed bribing and lots of "good boys" to trim pup up. He feels and looks better.
- DH and I had a sort of date night Saturday at a pizza place he used to love going to out of town. We took our time and had a good undisturbed conversation about different stuff. Our schedules have not been in sync. He's been particularly busy with things at the cabin or for his mom and very tired. He actually didn't work Saturday so had a full weekend. The pizza, while good, wasn't as fantastic as he remembered, way too much cheese made for slightly under baked peppers and onions, but there was a massive amount of leftovers that we got two more meals from.
- DH wanted to tackle stuff on the house, and the college kid wasn't sure of her plans. My older daughter and I packed a lunch and headed to the lake. We read, talked, ate lunch and swam, having the place to ourselves. It was a really perfect morning and afternoon. I brought home a couple peonies, hidden in the back for a vase in the dining room.
- I took advantage of no meetings after 2:00, perfect deck weather, and worked on written reports and data mining outside yesterday. Now this is an office.
- Having an older dog, you need to take walks at their pace. I'm really trying to just let him be as snoopy as he wants, in his two a day outings. DD2 had to work her other job late afternoon/last night, but he must recognize her lock beep, as his pace picked up to a run as we approached the path. The two spent time lounging in and under the hammock before calling it a night. He's a unique dog, but he's my baby.
- My hostas have burst with purple colored flowers. I hope next year to get more for the sides of the house.
If I could bottle the last week and take it out when life is rocky, I'd do so in a minute. I hope you have a Positively Tuesday kind of day
You look so content sitting on your deck :) My sister-in-law and the kids flew home Saturday, brother-in-law drove home Sunday. I’m so happy to have them back! Baby James has done incredibly well for his condition and we are truly fortunate. I must have done something right because all of DD’s loans, grants, scholarships went through lol. Getting these kids into college is a full time job. On the dorm front, she’s still looking for a light up mirror that’s not $100 but we are otherwise done save a last minute trip for snacks and things. I needed a small item to get free shipping from Bed Bath and Beyond so I bought myself a milk frother. I’ve wanted one forever! We had good numbers at work last week and I got some complements on my extensive floorset that basically flipped my section so that made me feel good. Spent Saturday morning at my dads house, just relaxing and chatting. Compromised and put up our old small blowup pool in the backyard. It has since rained everyday, hence the reasoning behind not opening the big pool. Sigh. It’s better than nothing. It’s been a pretty good week. JoAnn
ReplyDeleteI had wondered if you set up the big pool again. I noticed several neighbors that gor them last year did not set up this year. I only could work about an hour as the actual computer got too hot on my lap.
DeleteYou really have all the hostas you need. Take it from me--you cannot kill them. They are so large right now, you can go out with a knife or trowel or shovel and part the leaves, cut between stems coming from te ground and remove that part from the ground. They are so crowded right now, they will not miss the parts you take. And, they will fill out so you will not ruin the symmetrical look.
ReplyDeleteWait until the ground is wet or soak it for the digging. You won't regret it. I was afraid I would kill mine or ruin the look. But, hostas are survivors except from ground squirrels/chipmunks who love their roots.
I love those tall, airy flowers and stems. I love peonies and do not have any. Well, I do have a root to plant someday...lol.
Yes Hostas love to be dug up and divided! I use a big serrated knife and cut it into pieces.
DeleteI will have to watch some YouTube videos. I'm not a gardener and likely bill do something wrong.
DeleteI love seeing a picture of you, Sam! I don't think I've ever seen one - you are so lovely (your hair is awesome).
ReplyDeleteI gave Vizzini a really good brushing last night, followed by the rubber nubby pad, followed by another brushing. I always murmur "good boy" and follow each stroke of the brush with a pat - he's happy to just "pancake" and let me get to it. I took a massive ball of hair off him.
I'm proud of myself - today, I booked my ID renewal and upped my contributions to my retirement funds. Woo!
It was not a good angle- no, taking it from up high in a selfie. Thank you though. I plan to color my hair, get the gray gone, before the weekend. Pets have their special things they love. Well done adding to your retirement funds.
DeleteSounds like a perfect time!!!
ReplyDeleteIt was a pretty good summer week.
DeleteGreat picture, and I love hostas. I think they are my favorite shade plant. We have no shade here at all. Can't wait to see your find!
ReplyDeleteI'm a little scared to split them myself but will learn by watching how to do it. No shared here now that both front trees are gone.
DeleteWhat should have been a lovely and relaxing Tuesday with my sister on a lovely little train trip was somewhat marred by a somewhat awkward, jobsworth ticket collector! Thanks for popping over to mine and leaving your sweet comment, Sam. I love your Hostas. Mine have been sadly chomped through by some hungry slugs and snails!
ReplyDeleteThis was my first win at hostas from a bunch my SIL split and shared. Other attempts were eaten by animals. I'm sorry for your frustrating trip.
DeleteYour time at the lake sounds like my idea of heaven - and lovely photo of you too!
ReplyDeleteI didn't take the photo high- so I sort of resemble Jaba the Hut lounging, but oh well. That's what I look like. I love a perfect swim day.
DeleteLovely photo!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Please come back again.
