Positively Tuesday-Positive the Calendar is Speeding

Freebie insulated glass from T-Mobile.

Wasn't I just lamenting about summer 1/2 over? Well now, it feels like there is so little of summer left. DD2 is speeding through her packed calendar. DS is so busy that he can't commit specifically to travel, but if I get a call to run to the airport, you bet I'm there. DD1 is busy at work, has vacation next week, a concert and a friend coming for the weekend. She has new houses and decorating on her mind of course as well. DH has a birthday tomorrow-61! The calendar is on a speed setting it seems and I would like it to slow down, just  a bit, to catch my breath from all the watching around the edges I am doing. Such is life and I'm happy overall we are in a good place despite the strained economy, the dreaded virus still popping up cases left and right, and annoying neighbors. It's time in the week to pause and count the good stuff. Here's are my positive joys, simple pleasures, and smiles for the week.

  1. With being a little slow moving, it's been nice having DD1 help me with a few things around the house. She gets the dishwasher loaded and unloaded, laundry sorted and folded, quicker than me.
  2. DD2 got a very nice email back from her host family. I feel very positive about her stay in Spain and they sound like a family that will provide a safe space, but also include them in their traditions and day to day life, not just as a lodger.
  3. DD2 got safely to Pennsylvania despite a delay. I expect her back today and as far as I know, no mishaps or bad experiences on the road trip.
  4. I looked at a route home from the airport run that would put us in line with a Target, Trader Joe's and Aldi. I filled in gaps and bought a few splurges that I've missed since not driving out of town to shop. I'm excited for crusty bread and bruschetta and a mushroom ravioli. I think too much about food-carb heavy food.
  5. Seeing my daughters joy in finding the boho chair for a tree was priceless. She has reined in any non-essential spending, so it was nice that she let herself have a minor treat that she'll love in a home of her own for years to come.
  6. I finally felt more myself on Sunday. The sneezing eased up and I slept without waking myself up.
  7. DH and I had a fabulous time at the game. Of course a win would have been fun, but I'm not one to let grown men losing a game impact my mood. I griped along with everyone else in my party about a call that was overturned in New York that hurt our Twins, but they still had a chance to win and didn't take it. The food was tasty and drinks were cold, and it was so nice of my sister to take us all along with her.
  8. The weather after the weekend rain made for a perfect Monday. I had meetings over the noon hour and 1:00, so I snuck a later break in and took pup for an afternoon walk. He was loving the cooler weather, yet so sunny. 75 and sunny? I'll take it.
    This was pricey, but a
    delicious treat.

  9. I had a later afternoon drink on the deck, our own happy hour,  no alcohol. I did make dinner, but we had a girls afternoon with pup. I know I need to relish these opportunities.
  10. And...to start the day, I just got back from a walk with pup, and am sipping coffee while I finish this post. I'm leaving to meet my team out of the office in about an hour at a park.
Nothing was a big adventure, but little niceties each day. I need to think about a desert for DH's birthday. He's a fan of banana cream pie, and I have the filling ingredients, but would need to make a crust. I'll report back tomorrow if I was ambitious, or if I just run to the store and buy one. I know you'll be on pins and needles. I hope your joys were many and your troubles few. Have a Positively Tuesday day

  1. That drink looks delightful!

I'm feeling happy that we had such a fun family vacation. I know at my parents age, it's important that we appreciate each & every moment, especially given they are still so active & healthy. I feel so lucky we had the time together.

  3. My joys 1-10 could easily be from my weekend. Three days in a row off work is good enough lol but spending those days with my little travel buddy were priceless. The weather wasn’t not predicted to be great but they were wrong. The weekend was gorgeous and we had the best time. It was so relaxing even though we didn’t waste a second. We agreed that a girls trip needs to be an annual event. DD has a friend on the football team that moved in on Sunday and he gave her a virtual room tour and it was even nicer than we expected! She’s in a suite and we knew it came with a fridge and micro but it also has a kitchen sink and a small table with stools. It honestly reminds me a bit of the very tiny first apartment that me and my hubby had. Found a cute little floral, scallop edged, high neck top at goodwill on my birthday and an underarmor college hoodie for DD. She really put in the work this week and cleaned out her desk and all her high school papers and went through her clothes. Some we sold to Plato’s, some went to a friends family and the rest went to goodwill. There’s still more work to be done but I’m happy with that much really. I got some very thoughtful and practical birthday gifts. I desperately needed a new travel mug and replacement reusable kcup song the other goodies I got. My oldest works out in the heat and really had a rough day yesterday, but he let me “mom” him a little last night and we watched tv together while we had a late dinner. He’s a very subtle personal, so while it might not seem like much, it meant a lot to me. Happy birthday to your DH! JoAnn

    1. I wish my college kid would get motivated to purge! Her suite sounds great. I get the specialness of getting to mom. I feel for those that work in the brutal heat.

  4. We've moved! My positively Tuesday gem is that I'll say we're about 95% settled! DD had a trip planned, so her room is still in disarray. DH is also taking his sweet time about going through boxes in the office. (Well, ONE box, actually.) But, beyond that, we're unpacked. Physically, it was hard for me, as the kids were little help unless badgered (but when they stepped up they were great) and DH couldn't help much. But, that left all the decision making as to what to keep/discard/donate up to me, and I was ruthless! Would-Be-College-Boy, in fact, took a look at the new garage, and offered to help me cull even further, as one side is still pretty packed, to the point DD's car can't fit in. (Things like an end table which didn't work in our new home, kid's bike, planters, etc.) The only aggravating thing is I need to go to the post office to see why we haven't received any mail, either here or the old place in spite of me submitting a change of address in person.

    2. There was just a news story about USPS being days and days behind in sorting and delivering mail. I hope your issue gets resolved. Feel free to snap a picture or two and email me. I'd love to see a glimpse of the new house. You'll soon have it just as you want.

  5. What a nice post, just what I needed. Happy birthday to your Husband. Isn't is great that your son is so busy, remember the beginning of covid was so scary for him? I really missed my eldest when she went to college. She was so much older than the next one that she had done all the lesson driving and most of the dusting and helped with entertaining, as in setting tables a such. I realized after she left that I had never dusted the front room in our house. She had always done it. I also quit giving dinner parties as she did most of the work. You miss those little buggers.

    1. I had left a pot soak overnight and it was miraculously cleaned and put away when I got up. I appreciated that. It won't be for long and we'll be a quiet house again so need to appreciate them both.

    1. That surprises me you'd want that chair that's meant to hang from a tree or rafter/ ceiling hook. It is cute.

The sun's out and we've got 37°C forecast for the next few days - I'm in my element! xxx
