A Lesson on Purging

Twenty-one years at the organization.  Eleven years in this office.  Decades of binders, research material, reports, and contracts.  As I start to remove all trace of my having occupied this office, I have a mountain of a task ahead of me.  I should have been reviewing and purging all along the way, but with a couple book shelves ready to hold yet one more binder, I let them accumulate.  There is no turning back now.  I am trying to make sure I  don't throw anything of current or archival value, though most anything current probably has an electronic version.  That is my task tomorrow-to clean and organize electronic files into neat and organized accessible folder for my mangers and my successor.  I take a lot of pride in the work I have done here, and I want the person that  takes my role to feel like they can start with success.  I also don't want to be known as the crazy hoarder lady.  Here are a few pictures at the beginning of the sort and purge.  Let this be a lesson to any of you  procrastinating or overfilling your shelves.  You too may have to tackle a massive mountain someday.

Shelves of pictures, desk with piles.

  1. Hmmm - I've been looking at the piles of stuff in my classroom in similar dismay! Good luck with all the changes that are going on at the moment. Jx
