Peak into Her New Life

I've blathered on and on about my daughter's new job and fast turn around to finding a place to live, so thought I better share what she found. Well, she found a cute, not so little, 1,000 square foot second floor walk-up, ten minutes from her new job.  It was clean, and bright, and loads of closets-more closets than stuff, at least for now. There is a second tiny bedroom, perfect for an office. I find this a twinge ironic as when her sister was born, I lost my office, and it became DD#1's bedroom. I will get it back now-we never made the conversion when she left the first several times. No in-unit washer and dryer, but there is one in the eight unit building. The rent was well within her target, though the downside is the utility not included, electricity, is also the heating source. She likes cool temps in the house, and not afraid to wear and extra sweater and slippers. She'll be more conscientious about turning the heat down low during the day when at work and weekends when she comes back to Minnesota or is at the cabin. She'll also become very aware about not letting her unused appliances become vampires, sucking watts when she's not using them. She should have no trouble storing them when not in use. Not counting bedrooms, there are three good size closets and a locked storage room to herself in the hallway for a bike and non seasonal items.

She'll also have to get Internet setup-not part of her rent of course either, but essential for her work. I am rubbish at remembering to bring a camera anywhere, but here are a couple glimpses of her bare kitchen and bare living room. They will stay nearly bare for a while as she sources a low cost dining table, chairs, book shelves, and couch. She's splurging on a queen sized mattress, box spring, and frame-no headboard, but will bring her childhood dresser, mirror and night stand. A futon from her college days and a padded seat storage bench, inherited from my mom, will go with her as well. She has a few small mismatched tables that she wants to give some sort of matched painted up cycle treatment to, but not sure if she'll wait and do that sometime when visiting us, or if she is going to bring them with now. We'll help her move in next Sunday, she starts the job on Monday, and her new life begins.

Look at the cupboard and counter space-beats my kitchen.

Smallish living room, but oodles of closets in the place.

  1. Looks so much better/bigger than our first place. I hope she is happy there for some time to come.

    1. It's bigger than our first 650 square foot house, that we had for several months with four of us living there, and all that baby and toddler stuff.I hope this is a great move for her.

    1. She has worked hard, but is not taking it for granted that she is owed anything. Finding this place available and at the price was good luck-I hope it works out as well as it seems like it will.

  4. It looks like a very nice space and spacious to boot. In our first apartment if you were cleaning the bathroom and someone opened the door it would knock you into the tub. (experience)

    1. The downside will be the electric bill, and she will have to learn frugal hacks for keeping her bill low.

    1. She has been out on her own between college, grad school, and in between her big moves, but this feels more permanent. A real company, and apartment of her own, benefits, pensions, the whole grown up stuff.
